https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/63628

"That this House celebrates the contribution that the trans community, binary and nonbinary, makes to the UK; recognises that transgender transition liberates trans people to be their true selves; notes that there is no such thing as gender ideology, but that term is used to oppose acceptance of trans people in society; condemns baseless fearmongering in the media that trans people present a risk to others; further notes that the increase in anti-trans hate crime recorded in England and Wales between 2012 and 2023 was 1,426 per cent; supports inclusive language for trans and nonbinary people; and calls on the Government to perform its statutory public sector equality duty to trans people, by eliminating discrimination against them, advancing equality of opportunity for them, and fostering good relations between trans and cis people."

San Berry is my MP - I have written to her expressing my dismay at her stance

somethign along the lines of...
I am writing as a constituent in Brighton Pavilion to register my firm opposition to your Early Day Motion 1251, tabled on 12 May 2025. While I agree that transgender people deserve exactly the same legal protections and human dignity as everyone else, I am deeply concerned that the language and framing of this EDM marginalise women’s sex-based rights and ignore the increasingly aggressive climate created by certain trans-rights activists over the past decade.

contact yours if they are on the list!

Mine hasn't but I notice that 4 from Plaid Cymru have, oh what a surprise, the polls indicate that the majority of people in Wales don't support this genderwang crap, but the Party of Wales is neck deep in it. 🤬

DurinsBane · 30/05/2025 15:05

Your MP is a Green Party from Brighton. I would have been surprised if they hadn’t signed it!

That can hardly have come as a surprise surely??

mine hasn't signed it, I don't think she will, but I'll keep an eye on it, thank you.

might even drop her an email to say 'glad she hasn't signed it' as an indication it would not be a good thing.

Greyskybluesky · 30/05/2025 15:16

Interesting, thanks OP

Only one Scottish MP? Looks like it's dawned on them that they want to keep their seats.

Edited

My new Labour MP (Steve Witherden, Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr) is one of the 8 Labour MPs who have signed it so far. That explains why I haven't had even the courtesy of an acknowledgement from him when I've contacted him on a relevant issue. I'll try again, but I'm guessing it will be wasted effort.

Wot, no Kirsty of the XY chromosomes?

Not unless I've missed it!

NameyChangey95 · 30/05/2025 15:33

Ellie Chowns is my MP. I wrote to her before the General Election and got: 'sensitive issue...polarised debate...compassion...principle of inclusivity....self-ID....her trans friends...case by case...the threat is men, not trans people'.

She did say that she recognises sex and gender are different, so I suppose women should be grateful for that glimmer of sanity.

I have written to her four times since about Cass review, data bill, SC ruling etc. These have been short, polite emails asking for her/GPEW's view. I have had no replies.

TheOtherRaven · 30/05/2025 15:34

My little women-loathing nutjob seems to have missed this one.

although the motion seems vaguely 'yay us and up with good things!' with no actual purpose to say the least.

AnnaMagnani · 30/05/2025 15:36

Very surprised not to see my MP on there.

He went big on trans rights as soon as he was elected, found himself trending on SM as he was criticised so much and has basically been silent (on all issues) ever since.

Idiot.

Holeinamole · 30/05/2025 15:40

Glad to see my MP is not on that list but not surprised by some of the signatories. But where is Zarah Sultana? And Jeremy (he/him) Corbyn? Looks as if this particular cause has lost popularity.

And a slightly heretical thought: if a political movement is deeply unpopular with the general public, which does seem to be the case with the TRM, then to what extent can public sector institutions be held accountable if the relations between two protected characteristics are poor? The TRAs have done and are doing an astonishing amount of damage to their own cause, there must come a point where they have to blame themselves, not the government.

CompleteGinasaur · 30/05/2025 15:43

I haven't even bothered checking the list - unfortunately I've got Nadia Whittome. I do still send in letters expressing my dismay (apoplectic rage is so unbecoming) at whatever omnicause bullshit du jour she's been stirring up every now and again, but the only good I get from it is the vague hope that one more wasted stamp might keep the Royal Mail in operation for 0.0005 more seconds..

Generally Scottish MPs don't do anything at all as a matter of principle.

Sorry, I mean SNP MPs don't get involved in politics that they think is unrelated to Scotland.

HermioneWeasley · 30/05/2025 15:47

The list of the signatories is the usual suspects

rhywlodes · 30/05/2025 15:49

He's my MP too. I don't think he's very clever, to be honest. There's a ridiculous article in my local paper about him and the local Pride committee. It doesn't even pretend to mention same-sex attraction.

I really want to be able to support Plaid Cymru but I just despair of them on this issue. I'm sure most plaid voters have no clue about this subject, and, if they did, would be horrified at what Liz Saville Roberts, Ben Lake et al are supporting. I'm actually on a Plaid Cymru whatsapp group but this subject never comes up...

viques · 30/05/2025 15:55

21 signing out of however many ( can’t be arsed to check!) 600? is a low percentage, and looking at the signatures they are pretty much usual suspects, so personally I find that quite a decent result. I reckon it would have been much higher a year ago.

TakingHavenInTescoExpress · 30/05/2025 15:58

So what specific contribution does the trans community make to the UK? Or do they just do the things most of us do (go to work, pay tax, not commit crimes)? If the latter, why would they be singled out for special thanks?

orangegato · 30/05/2025 16:03

You know your MP is absolutely batshit when their name is against the same items as Carla Denyer. Embarrassing.

Nice to see all the support from working class areas of the country...

Obviously serving ministers in the current government won't sign this - this includes very junior ministers - its only backbenchers and opposition parties. But I am curious that Dawn Butler is NOT on the list. She isn't currently in the governmnt and is a backbencher. That begs a few questions for me...

...either she thinks that signing it isn't good for her career and/or this lot are truly next level batshit.
