"That this House celebrates the contribution that the trans community, binary and nonbinary, makes to the UK; recognises that transgender transition liberates trans people to be their true selves; notes that there is no such thing as gender ideology, but that term is used to oppose acceptance of trans people in society; condemns baseless fearmongering in the media that trans people present a risk to others; further notes that the increase in anti-trans hate crime recorded in England and Wales between 2012 and 2023 was 1,426 per cent; supports inclusive language for trans and nonbinary people; and calls on the Government to perform its statutory public sector equality duty to trans people, by eliminating discrimination against them, advancing equality of opportunity for them, and fostering good relations between trans and cis people."

San Berry is my MP - I have written to her expressing my dismay at her stance

somethign along the lines of...
I am writing as a constituent in Brighton Pavilion to register my firm opposition to your Early Day Motion 1251, tabled on 12 May 2025. While I agree that transgender people deserve exactly the same legal protections and human dignity as everyone else, I am deeply concerned that the language and framing of this EDM marginalise women’s sex-based rights and ignore the increasingly aggressive climate created by certain trans-rights activists over the past decade.

contact yours if they are on the list!

Bell Ribeiro-Addy is my MP, @TangenitalContrivences may I use your wording?

weirdwalking · 30/05/2025 17:00

My MP is Ellie Chowns who I have met many times and like… but we do not agree on this and never will.

NotAtMyAge · 30/05/2025 17:27

Parliament has been in recess for half-term since the 22nd, so I'm guessing a few more may get round to signing it when they return on Monday. This is the article from the local paper that @rhywlodes mentioned and it basically demonstrates that our Labour MP Steve Witherden is a lost cause as far as women's sex-based rights are concerned. Off now to look for the other trans EDM he says he signed recently.

Mine hasn't signed, but she is a minister. She probably agrees with it - she voted down the amendment to prevent in self-ID in the Data Bill.

RaininSummer · 30/05/2025 17:52

My very irritating woman hating MP seems to have missed this one so far.

SerafinasGoose · 30/05/2025 18:21

there is no such thing as gender ideology.

Pure gaslighting.

At least so far, their list of supporters is short.

Arran2024 · 30/05/2025 18:41

My Lib Dem MP hasn't signed. Usually the Lib Dems are all over this issue. Even Ed Davies hasn't signed. Sign of the times or were they all on holiday?!

They've all been on holiday since the 22nd. Back at work on Monday.

Gundogday · 30/05/2025 20:43

Half-term? Makes sense. They do act like children.

worse than that she wrote it!

Is that a surprise? The MP for Brighton, probably the most LGBT friendly place in the UK

My MP is Suella Braverman so she definitely hasn't signed!

SionnachRuadh · 06/06/2025 20:18

My MP, who used to be quite a big cheese in LGBT Labour, hasn't signed. Possibilities:

  • He's close enough to gay politics to know that this has become quite a fraught issue.
  • He's not so out of touch with his constituency (very working class with lots of Muslims and Black Christians) that he wants to make genderwoo a key part of his profile.
  • He'd quite like to be a minister and can sniff the way the wind is blowing.

None of those contradict any of the others, and I see some of the more notorious parliamentary TRAs aren't on there.

SionnachRuadh · 06/06/2025 20:20

What happened to Plaid though? Their great campaigning issues were always the Welsh language and the rural economy. Do they seriously imagine rainbow dildo politics is a key concern of voters in Aberystwyth?

Plaid drank the rainbow coolaid years back. They used to ally with Welsh Labour over crazy gender stuff all the time. They are WORSE than the SNP now. Note no SNP MPs are backing the motion. They got BURNED.

The 2026 Welsh election is going to be interesting as questions over biology existing is an easy weakness for Reform/Tories to target. Right now Reform are doing well if they can make the election about biology it will be amazing for them.

Welsh Labour have reluctantly accepted the Supreme Court ruling but trying to evade it in certain ways.

Plaid won't talk about it at all.

In 2026 there will actually be attention on Wales so Plaid will have to decide whether to double down or not. The position of Plaid MPs is a sign they like the Greens have a serious problem.

Cjsguie5 · 07/06/2025 09:54

EDMs are really not a big deal in the Commons. They're never debated and basically only used to indicate an opinion. They cover all kinds of random topics.

They won't have signed because they won't even know it exists unless one of the lead MPs goes around asking them for signatures.

Ramblingnamechanger · 07/06/2025 17:44

No, mine isn’t , though was right up there with no problem putting men in women’s prisons in the early days.maybe he has seen which way the cookie is crumbling.
