Are toilets still allowed to be cleaned by members of the opposite sex?

PoisedRubyLion · 27/05/2025 15:50

I see signs saying toilets may be cleaned by members of the opposite sex in a lot of places. Is this allowed after the supreme court ruling? If a male cleaner was in there it would be a mixed sex space.

If there are male cleaners there are signs. Either specifically when they are there or advising that they may be present.

Commercial cleaning companies generally (probably always for the ones with large contracts) DBS check employees.

You’re welcome

Because I disagree that trans women are men

Do you think that everyone who disagrees with scientific, verifiable, confirmed by the highest court in the land fact has a right to ignore the law?

Couldn’t you say the same thing about trans women? If you don’t want to share a space with them, don’t go in

Sandie Peggie tried waiting outside the changing room while Dr Upson got changed. This made the Dr sad and Sandie was suspended for making the Dr sad. No-one is getting a disciplinary charge for waiting for a male cleaner to finish mopping the loo.

I think you’re exaggerating the judgement. It was very clear that it only clarified male and female for the Equality Act. Trans people can still get a GRC that changes their sex for other purposes.

Not for all other purposes though. It's not just the EA that ignores a GRC.

And a certificate doesn't mean someone has actually changed sex

DeepGreyFox · 27/05/2025 20:21

ProfesoraLou · 27/05/2025 20:10

Most men don't. Most men accept that women's spaces are for women.

Unfortunately there is a cohort that seem to think it's ok for a man to be in a women's spaces when they are wearing a dress. Or lipstick.
Don't you read the papers? Have you not heard about the toilet protests? Are you even being serious?
This is why the Supreme Court had to clarify the law.
But maybe you think because you haven't come across it, other people should ignore it?

So patronising. Hope you feel better for that 🙄

I can get a piece of paper saying I own a bit of the moon. Does that make me an astronaut?

It's a scientific, verifiable fact though.

You can 'disagree' with that all you like, but no one needs to take your disagreement seriously. Like flat earthers.

I'm actually starting to think that Flat Earthers need to start getting litigious and fighting the 'human beings can change sex' lot being referred to as Flat Earthers. I mean, they're crazy, but not that crazy.

Okay fine. To get pedantic, for most purposes excluding some very specific exceptions

OP posts:
spannasaurus · 27/05/2025 20:27

Other than birth/death certificates and marriage I can't think of any other areas where a GRC has any effect. It used to make a difference to pension age but that has been the same for both sexes for a while.

CassOle · 27/05/2025 20:28

A GRC is just a legal fiction. It doesn't change reality.

I could go into the toilet and encounter a male child. No sign for that.

And a male child with his mum/auntie/older sister in the loos is a threat to you? Okay........

They almost certainly aren’t a threat. But can you say for sure that every male child is not a threat?

Are you suggesting TW should walk around with a sandwich board they leave by the door of the loo when they use it? Errrr ok…..

A piece of paper doesn't change anyone's sex, silly billy.

Dear god, the education system is an an absolute dumpster fire, isn't it?

Keeptoiletssafe · 27/05/2025 20:39

I was so naive getting excited that I don’t have to talk about toilets anymore now we can have single sex toilets.

What is this fresh hell?

No you’re quite right. In fact I’ve lost count of the number of 7 year olds who attack women in the loo.

Oh wait….

Erm, something something, you take your small children into the loo with you so men in a skirt are entitled to use the ladies, look over there, a squirrel! 🐿️ something something

I think that’s pretty much how it went

Now, look here, Bernard, are you suggesting that saying 'Abracadabra' doesn't cure illnesses and diseases, and that 'I identify as a woman' doesn't change that person's sex?

Reality has a heart of stone-cold marble, doesn't it care about feelings?

The boys who are going to be going into the ladies loos with their mum/granma etc are going to under the age of 8. Possibly a few shy/nervous 9 and 10 yos. And some older kids with additional needs.
If you are concerned those kids are a risk to you then how do you manage to exist on a daily basis going about your life? You must be worried about so many things. Best stay in your bedroom forever more. You'll be safe then!

How is it you are apparently worried about the risk an 8yo boy might pose to you in the ladies but arent worried about the risk an adult man in a dress would be to you? How very odd you are.

Unless of course...... you are yourself an adult man who likes going into the ladies loos in dresses. In which case - best for us all that you do stay in your bedroom forever more. Excellent plan. Do that.
