This is great news. I attended a 'Unions for Trans rights' meeting last night, and it was exactly how you would imagine it to be. We were encouraged to join the 'Flowers for Beth's campaign and colour in some flowers to send to Beth Upton. I am a Union Rep and I stay as we are very strong in my school, but I'm appalled at the way they've thrown women and girls under the bus.

Meant to quote this post below re unions encouraging schools to support invasion of women’s private spaces.

I didn’t see your other post - thank you for making a stand against such abusive motions 👏

Excellent. Now we need someone to challenge Unison and the NEU.

JKs fund does offer the support for more to make a clear stand against these awful policies without fear of career damaging repercussions

EasternStandard · 24/05/2025 08:33

Brilliant. I hope she gets a good outcome.

Scimitarsandstars · 24/05/2025 08:36

Wonderful news! Go Sandie!

NameChangedYetAgainToAvoidID · 24/05/2025 08:51

My union is run by a bunch of white middle aged men. When I asked the AGS recently why they are falling to put more women in the Executive, he replied that it was up to female members to put themselves forward. Really? Where the mentorship? Where's the encouragement? Our women's group is just lip service really, to support the white blokes in charge. And yes, they are all very much pro- men-in-skirts. I"m still a member because my employer's code of conduct is an ass, so I see it as a necessary evil, or a type of insurance against future hassle and I've had plenty in the past.

GO Sandie! I wish you the best of luck! 🤗

RedToothBrush · 24/05/2025 09:47

Oh dear.

The unions might spontaneously combust at the mere thought of this.

Add this to how they are telling men they can't use the women's and the reaction to that.

And how women aren't allowed to have women's conferences or events anymore at union conventions because the men might get upset.

Oh dear.

Tantrum time.

dubaichocolate · 24/05/2025 09:53

It’s amazing how these events can gather pace. From a changing room in one hospital to employment tribunals, NHS Fife and the NHS more broadly in the spotlight. Now the union will be showed up for its misogyny and possibly acting unlawfully. And hopefully others will be held accountable too. Sunlight sunlight sunlight. More power to you Sandie 💪💪💪

Pleasantsort · 24/05/2025 10:00

@HeyPooPooHead I came to the same conclusion not so long ago. They make my blood boil!

RoyalCorgi · 24/05/2025 11:04

A few days ago the RCN put out a statement saying that the Darlington NHS trust must provide single-sex changing rooms, otherwise it is breaking the law. Obviously up to this point they've been as much use as a chocolate teapot, which is why the Darlington nurses have had to take legal action without the backing of their union.

The new RCN statement is very clear indeed:

"The RCN expects the Trust to comply with these statutory provisions and provide single sex changing rooms without delay. It would seem reasonable that that the alternative changing room provision that some women are currently using, would be the obvious choice for a gender neutral changing space."

The statement by RCN amounts to an admission that they've been wrong up to now. Which means it's going to be very difficult indeed for them to defend themselves against Sandie Peggie's action. In fact, I'd have thought it impossible.

Unions were invented by men for men, and nothings changed since the 70's. The film Made in Dagenham's depiction of the way the Unions were hand in glove with management and not the slightest bit interested in the concerns of the women in the work force mirror's the attitude I encounter when I got involved in the unions in the 80's and 90's. When the film came out in 2010's or something it rang so many bells.

Lets hope SP bankrupts hers. 🤬

lcakethereforeIam · 24/05/2025 11:35

Good. After the Labour Party, the BBC and the Guardian, the Unions have really disappointed me over this nonsense.

They wanted you to colour in flowers? Are they six?

I can see a link, fake flowers for a person with an issue in faking who they are.

Someone organised a fundraiser for him so he could do something nice after. While Sandie's support was towards her fighting for her job and women's rights.
Why does the man have the upper hand - he has his space but wants hers, his feelings matter and he should be considered and cheered up?

Good for her. Hope they have to pay through the nose.

It's more likely that she'll bankrupt herself.

She’ll be fine. What an incredible woman Sandie is.

That's very unlikely with the support she has behind her.

There are loads of women in senior positions in my union. Unfortunately they are still completely captured, have talked about what a difficult time we're in (following Supreme Court) etc. I'll never understand it. Guess they're all just being kind.

SkiAndTravelTheWorldWithMyDog · 24/05/2025 12:21

She needs to be made a Dame for Services to Women's Rights. What a woman.

tripleginandtonic · 24/05/2025 12:25

orangegato · 24/05/2025 06:23

I hope she takes them to the cleaners. There will be no money and only whiny genderwangers left paying subs. Delicious.

Yes great to not have a union left. I doubt she would get a big payout tbh.

Toooldforthisbollocks · 24/05/2025 12:27

Presuming her union is RCN? Very pleased to hear this.
I am a retired member.
Time they were held to account.

The point is never the payout. It's pour encourager les autres.

Want to face a legal case? No? Obey the fucking law then.

nauticant · 24/05/2025 12:45

I'd bet money that if the RCN offered Sandie Peggie a complete and contrite apology, they'd be able to get the case settled.

But they'd struggle terribly to do that. Because they're captured and will be terrified of facing accusations of "transphobia".

You are having your cake and eating it, if you are a union rep but purport to disagree with their treatment of women - you are surely part of the problem if you stay in that position, no?

But unions will help you in some cases, and for women not in others. So if you think you will get value from your subs why would you leave? there is a LOT more to being in a job than fighting the genderwang.

And then, of course, if you aren't in the union you can't (try to) force them to change. So there are very good reasons for holding your nose and staying in.

It's the issue i have too, and i live in a country with SelfID laws so i would be fucked anyway. But my union have just helped me with a redundancy, i would have been in big trouble without their support. So, for now, it is worth me staying in.
