Have I completely misunderstood GCSE biology...

...or is the purpose of spotting an anomaly not specifically to disregard it in order that it doesn't lead to an inaccurate conclusion?

If so, why is everyone fixating on DSDs as "proof" that sex is a spectrum, when the anomalous 1.7% (if indeed it is as high as that - from what I've read that figure is only achieved if you include conditions such as PCOS which have a tenuous claim at best to be one of the "intersex" variations) is clearly a set of results that don't fit. Because something has deviated from the norm. It's not like calculating the mean of a range of heights, FFS.

Please can someone more scientific than me explain what is going on here? Or is it simply that certain factions are so hell-bent on arguing that anyone with ladyfeels can be a woman they're happy to completely disregard any sort of science or logic in order to do so?

If a trans person looks female it’s highly unlikely they’d be challenged but the law now allows women to have their own spaces without men, however they identify, and now legally deny them access.

Till the SC ruling, it was women that wouldn’t be allowed to question why men, however they identify, being allowed access and the law would have been on the men’s side.

The scales have rebalanced and men, however they identify, are now on the lower level. ⚖️

You are talking about trans women who were probably effeminate boys and try to blend in

This individual is also a trans woman and under your transwomen are women and are welcome to get changed in the same changing room as me banner. How comfortable would you really be getting changed for swimming in front of her? Be honest with yourself. (The image is of kayla lemieux while waiting for photo to be approved)

Edited

I have genuinely got changed in the same room as my trans sister-in-law before a night out and didn't once feel uncomfortable.

Considering how heated and defensive this issue is, surely there has been numerous attacks on women in women's spaces? There must be a reason other than transphobia.

andtheworldrollson · 24/05/2025 12:44

Personally I would expect that a full surgical transowmwn does behave differently to the majority of transwomen - but then you really are down to policing body parts

the focus on the minority case before the baseline is established properly isnt I think helpful - you can’t work on your corners until you have a baseline

andtheworldrollson · 24/05/2025 12:46

Yes there have been many attacks on women
cant recall the details but a survey of attacks on women in sports centres showed that they nearly all occurred in mixed sex facilities - edited to add although only half the facilities were mixed sex so this was significant

that to me says - keep changing rooms single sex

and since transowmen offend at at least the same rate as other men there is no case for making any allowances for them

yiur lack of discomfort is irrelevant

There is no magic forcefield stopping men from walking into a woman's bathroom with nefarious intent.

There is no way of forcing people to expose their genitals before being allowed into a single-sex space.

So what was the point of the law then, I wonder? How would it be enforced? Or was it just performative politics? Nah, surely not.

Crikey, with friends like you, trans people don't need enemies.

Why are you saying they've all got nefarious intent, or need to expose their genitals or disregard women's boundaries and deliberately go round breaking the law willy-nilly??

It's very damning to categorise an entire cohort of men as being completely unable to abide by the laws of the land.

And yet there are a few cases in the news recently of biological women being refused entry to female spaces because they were accused of being born a man.

Gosh yes it’s astonishing isn’t it that that wasn’t happening while TRA were stomping all over the place getting their own way and now gosh darn it wouldn’t you know suddenly there are 6ft tall butch lesbians being harangued in women’s toilets!! I mean what are the chances of this happening just as the Supreme Court confirmed the women always had the right up single sex spaces eh?? What an incredible coincidence!!

Brainworm · 24/05/2025 12:48

Autie · 24/05/2025 12:24

I think trans people know they are not ever going to be biologically their chosen sex.

What matters to them is being able to be the person they wish to be, and use the toilet just like everyone else. My sister in law was born male, but now she looks female. She has had numerous surgeries. With this ruling, she would have to go into a male bathroom despite looking like a woman.

I don't feel threatened by trans people, and I'm sorry you do.

There are many reasons why females don’t want males in female only provision. Feeling threatened is just one, there are many more.

In the 80s, before being approved for hormone treatment or surgery, transexuals (as they were then labelled) had to demonstrate a good understanding that the treatment would not actually change their sex and that many people will not view them as having changed their sex. They had to demonstrate that they understood the challenges they may have in finding intimate partners and navigating etc. None of this was put forward as hostile or discriminatory, just part of how some view the world.

People like your cousin have been mistreated by the medics who put them on a course of treatment without informed consent

I get changed in front of my husband. Does that mean he can be allowed in the women's changing rooms?

There are Nobel Prize winning science terfs. They know more about biology than your average redditor.

If you're unwilling to engage in meaningful discussion please just say so.

Let me spell it out.

I don't believe any of those stories. I think they are all lying to support their political agenda.

You've catastrophically misunderstood my post. I don't even know where to start to respond.

Some people above seem to think that transwomen want to go into women's bathrooms and do something other than just mind their own business and use the toilet. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but that's the impression I'm getting.

Honestly, who gives a shit about you getting changed with your relatives??

And reason is, it's the law. No justification necessary. Just abide by it please

You know your sister in law. Don't you think that might make a difference?

Any comment to make about Katie Dolatowski? Or Beth Upton? Or "Rose" the nurse?

You're incredibly misinformed.

My sister in law had to live as a woman for years before she got seen by a doctor and had the surgery.

I don't give a monkeys why men want to go into women's toilets. They can have as many different reasons as they like.

The answer is no.

forgotmyusername1 · 24/05/2025 12:52

So would you be happy getting changed in an open changing room in front of Kayla Lemieux. She is after all a woman under the trans women are women banner?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/05/2025 12:52

Autie · 24/05/2025 12:39

Just to be clear, you'll be happy with what the image is saying?

Why would we make law affecting 100% of the population based on the fact that a small number of people have had extreme cosmetic surgery?

Please describe the top five, oh let's make it easier, the top three, ways in which a man can live as a woman.

Keeptoiletssafe · 24/05/2025 12:54

Autie · 24/05/2025 12:33

The difference is if a trans person has changed their body, appearance, name, lifestyle, everything because they want to live as a woman then as far as I'm concerned they're welcome in a womans bathroom.

The thing is they just want to wee. You probably won't be able to spot them either. And you're certainly not in any danger by them being in there. Unless you have evidence to the contrary? Say, a long list of attacks?

Yes

Well Katie dolatowski may try to rape you... she did after all sexually assault a 10 year old girl in the women's toilets of a supermarket

andtheworldrollson · 24/05/2025 12:55

The very act of a man going into the women’s toilets isn’t neutral

they are not minding their own business - they are asserting a dominance , taking what is not theirs ,

they can’t justify it because they feel like a woman - that’s a threatening and ambiguous statement

, I might feel like a pizza but I make it myself
