It’s been a while since I last saw everyone!

Welcome to everyone, regulars, lurkers, newly ventured in.

A place for women to discuss whatever takes their fancy, where the bar staff are attentive gerbils, Rosy the Red Panda is available for cuddles and all sweet things have no calories and all alcohol leaves the drinker slightly merry and hangover-free.

The Bluestocking is closed for the day, the blinds are down and there's a candle burning for Swashbuckled and her dear daughter, as they deal with the unspeakably sad task of saying goodbye to their dear son and brother.
But we can gather here to keep watch and send love.

Dear Swash,

I am so sorry to hear your terrible sad news. I hope there will be some sense of comfort to be found here at the Bluestocking as we pause and reflect and send loving thoughts to you and your daughter.

Please come here whenever you wish, say whatever you want. There's real friendship and love here. Plus warm hugs from Rosy and the Quokkas and the Giant Wombat, and watery solace with the calm Capybaras, silly fond looks from Colin and Spartipuss, little drinks to sustain you from the helpful gerbils.

We're here for you when you want us.

I've been thinking of you and your family on and off all day, Swashy, wishing there was something practical that I could do.

Same here. I realised I had been doing the same task for about 4 hours non-stop and had missed lunch, it was keeping my mind focused on something other than sadness for Swash.

I hope she has friends around her to do the little, important, loving practical things that make a difference at times like this.

I wish we could do that too, but we can only be there for her in the way that us Stockingers are there for each other - virtually, but sincerely and very caringly nonetheless.

Oh Swashy, I am sorry for you and your daughter to have to go through this.

Hi all i have cried for swashy today because i am a woman a daughter a sister and a mother and also because a friend of mine lost her son in similar circumstances.

I hugged my friend and hid my tears for her, she said Banned it is empathy , that is okay.

Anyway we cannot empty the pub, Swashy might come here and find us all gone, or we stop talking when she walks in, or find us looking at the bottom of an empty glass.

I am not saying we should dance on the tables but she may need a bit of this lack of reality and some form of normality rolled into one.

I need help here please, what is our way forward for our bereft sister?

For a few minutes earlier today I wondered if it was appropriate at a time like this to use these images - but then I thought that this is how we communicate here, the gerbils and other little animals carry messages between us, say things that we wouldn't otherwise say to each other - so today they carry messages of solidarity and sympathy to dear Swash, and I hope, I think she'll understand the medium as well as the message.

It's the Bluestocking way to send you love and support,Swash. 💙
