It’s been a while since I last saw everyone!

Welcome to everyone, regulars, lurkers, newly ventured in.

A place for women to discuss whatever takes their fancy, where the bar staff are attentive gerbils, Rosy the Red Panda is available for cuddles and all sweet things have no calories and all alcohol leaves the drinker slightly merry and hangover-free.

The Bluestocking Women's Pub, where brains can exist in a single state | Mumsnet

Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nons...

Last night the Quokkas invented a song. They wanted to include everybody, so the song took all night to perform, and luckily Android was there to listen to it all the way through until this morning.

Oh, that was lovely!

I thought I'd repay the compliment. Btw, can we get some gerbil carpenters in here to fix these blasted floorboards? It's been like this for weeks now!

Dear Swashy, how nice of you to pay the Bluestocking a visit. It must be so difficult not to be able to move forward with things.

About this time last year someone who has edited a number of well received historical miscellanies for an Irish publisher put out a call for contributions to a new volume. There was something I thought would fit, so I submitted it (back in October), and basically heard nothing. Just got included in an email to contributors saying it's going to the publisher next week and please can he have a one-sentence description of each of the authors.

So excited!

Yay, Deano! Author, author!

(Do you need any of us to describe you to the publisher?😂)

Congratulations, @DeanElderberry

What a skilled group of people Bluestockingers are, and always supportive.

Forget the gerbil. What we need is a capable capybara.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/05/2025 19:19

Oh well done Deano, you must be chuffed! A one-sentence description sounds like a challenge though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/05/2025 19:24

Well done, @DeanElderberry - what talented women the Bluestockings are.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/05/2025 19:29

Just coming out of more migraine fog- so lovely to see the good news and helpfulness and kindness and compassion.

Amazing! So pleased for you! Have heard similar tales from friends about the lag time between submission and acknowledgement… ie long after they assumed they had failed to make the cut!

Ah, can we get you anything Puffling? One of the comfiest chairs for sure.

DeanElderberry · 29/05/2025 19:33

yeah, ONE sentence - all very well for the youngsters a few years out of college, but I've done such varied things.

Dean Elderberry: Polymath chancer forager with cats.

Which reminds me, I went to see a friend's garden yesterday, and met her dog, a sweet clean little thing who I stroked for about 20 seconds. After I got home the cats spent the whole afternoon sniffing the shin-covering bit of my trousers to find out ALL about this canine person. And the really interesting thing is they didn't seem to disapprove. wanna dog

Boiledbeetle · 29/05/2025 19:40

Cake to celebrate!

I'll just taste test it all.

Just going to respond to Dean with a garden picture. Am a total novice and started with a newly terraced revisioning of the Somme and for some reason the things I planted seem to have survived both me and the bloody dogs. Especially glorious this year - it does seem that plants need a few years to really bed in. Might tackle Chelsea next year 🤣

Fabulous peonies, Lurky.

DeanElderberry · 29/05/2025 19:46

Speaking of polymath foraging, I was at a thing on a farm at the weekend and met a pair of very splendid not-at-all pigmy hogs, happy in a combination of sunshine, rain, and mud.

better warn the vegetarians not to read the next bit.

.

.

And I asked their owner (making sure they couldn't hear me) whether he sells lard, and the answer is yes! So wait and see my vitamin D levels soar.
