It’s been a while since I last saw everyone!

Welcome to everyone, regulars, lurkers, newly ventured in.

A place for women to discuss whatever takes their fancy, where the bar staff are attentive gerbils, Rosy the Red Panda is available for cuddles and all sweet things have no calories and all alcohol leaves the drinker slightly merry and hangover-free.

The Bluestocking Women's Pub, where brains can exist in a single state | Mumsnet

Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nons...

My DH is very sensible about his health since cancer. It's caused quite a few ongoing issues and lifelong treatment, so he doesn't mess around.
My chronic condition however, I manage to ignore!

The Walrus has improved since meeting me. He’s lost five stone, which has reversed his pre-diabetes, had an abscess removed from his neck, another from his back, and had a goitre thing that wasn’t a goitre, removed from his hand. It stopped him playing golf. Fortunately the desire to resume golf has not returned. He did go straight back to work that day rather than have the rest of the day off. He loves his job.

He also had a nasty boil combination thing in his elbow that has been minimised by hot compresses. He doesn’t even complain and say, it’s fine. He goes straight to the GP. I’m saying it’s my influence.

The list of beans is impressive but I’d like to know how you’d enact some of them. Navy, French, broad are fine, but edamame?ConfusedGrin

Now you're just showing off!

The Child went out a bit late, so we were obliged to shelter under roofs, firstly of a church, then of a pub. So sad. Still, about 60 people enjoyed several hours of a damp summer evening swapping historical anecdotes and tracing family connections - "yes Jane, you're named after your grand-aunt, but your great-grandmother Jane was actually named after my grand-uncles' cousins' wife's mother Jane, who was born in 1832, so . . . ."

I may have the connections wrong, but that was the date he took us back to, without any reference to books.

It is possible some of them are still in the pub and have moved on from the official tea and coffee to other refreshments.

The Minstrel Boy was Miles O'Brien's theme in DS9, but first heard in TNG after another character ordered 'delete all programs' ...pause...'except program 9. . . .' As the doors closed, TMB played softly.

Deano, I know the sort of conversation you mean. There are times when I've heard the story about the winter when the river burst its banks and my grandfather had to carry the pigs out on his back, and it's discussed as if it happened last week when it must have been at least a hundred years ago. I think that's what convinced him he wasn't born to be a farmer.

When I was a wean those stories used to annoy my brain, but these days I get a bit sad thinking that we're at the end of the oral history culture when everything got remembered.

Still, as weather goes, I count it as a result if you don't end up having to put your socks on the radiator afterwards.

In these versions, the contestants simply need to look at the big board on the wall behind them to get it.

I’m not sure my dd could have read that when she played the game though. Grin

Yeah, the bean game should result in mirth all round if played correctly.

They do, don't they? Unreasonably annoyed by a difficult mime. Tsk!

Let's see them after they find out what the bean was ...

Yes in my thoughts as i retire to my bed, where I know i will not have to wake to an alternative reality.

genandtonic · 27/05/2025 01:07

Ooh that’s much better. Thank you inkymoose and thank you for your emotional window pictures. Sending heartfelt hugs to swashy.

Swashbuckled · 27/05/2025 08:39

Thank you for being there, and for holding me in your thoughts. I do pop in quietly, and it is helping.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/05/2025 09:10

Glad to see you, Swashy. Sit quiet in a corner with a Brew with us, or talk about whatever you want. I was wondering how your daughter was doing - is her uni being supportive?

lcakethereforeIam · 27/05/2025 09:36

Baked. Has anyone said baked?

We watched the first episode of the new Walking with Dinosaurs last night. It annoyed me. The dinosaurs were so anthropomorphised, which I can't stand!

Gabbyon, you look lovely this morning. Have you done something new with your fur?

I couldn't watch it as I was so sad for poor little Clover.

I thought 'has' as well, @MarieDeGournay - great minds!

@Swashbuckled - sending you gentle hugs.

In lighter news, I appear to have cured my whitlow - sticking a pin in it and squeezing has done the trick. I did ask dh to film it for Sporners' Corner, but he refused.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/05/2025 11:24

Oh - and on the topic of beans - I know how many beans make five -

One bean, two beans, bean and a half and half a bean.

Ta da!
