'Trans girls will still be allowed to play in Glasgow's school female netball league as part of a efforts across the city to keep sport inclusive for LGBTQ + pupils.
Young people can also take part in athletics based on their gender identity and there are gender neutral gymnastic events for pupils in the city.
Glasgow city's education convenor Christina Cannon said the council works with schools to ensure trans and non binary pupils take part in sport "in line with their gender identity."'

Glasgow trans pupils can take part in girls netball, gymnastics and other sports

The SFA decision to ban trans women from competing in women's football has been described as 'horrific'

“Our goals is a truly inclusive environment” … except for girls, who are already marginalised in sport. They can go rot.

Apollo441 · 15/05/2025 23:00

I look forward to the court case.

If they describe it as a female team, they most definitely cannot legally include boys with gender. Their bragging seems to confirm that they are deliberately and wilfully breaching the law.

speedtalker · 16/05/2025 06:41

I assume the problem here is that they don’t have enough resources to fund a boys netball team so they just want to cram those males into the girls’ team. For years girls have been excluded from eg football and rugby teams. These boys will have to start their own leagues. And it’s not up to Glasgow to decide the criteria for who can enter Scottish netball cups surely?

Igmum · 16/05/2025 06:47

Glasgow bans girls from school sports and gives prizes to cheating boys.

There, fixed it for you. HTH

ErrolTheDragon · 16/05/2025 08:02

Why on earth can’t they just be honest and call it a mixed sex team?

I suppose it’d mean they couldn’t play against girls’ teams. I guess it’ll be up to opposing sides to resist their illegality and refuse to play them if they show up fielding a mixed sex team.

334bu · 16/05/2025 08:09

The councillor has obviously never played netball, if they consider it a non contact sport. I played netball in Glasgow and believe me it could get rough and the idea of receiving a ball in the face from a boy doesn't bear thinking about.

Edited

Having had a look at the socials, they do a lot of 'you go girl!' empowerment messaging for the netball team, talk about women in sport, etc.

I wonder if they’ve looked at their insurance?
Sharron Davies was quite clear that she considers the only reason the FA has crumbled is because of their insurance cover

Well this is timely 😃

I don't often agree with Titania but he's she's got a point, I never told my daughters to 'grow bigger lungs'. I hope they can forgive me😭

Datun · 16/05/2025 12:53

Indeed, all of the so-called “physical advantages” accrued during male puberty — such as increased height, bone density, heart and lung size, length of limbs, and so on — can be explained by sexist parenting. Little boys are routinely taught to “man up”, to “stop crying” and to “grow bigger lungs”. It’s inevitable that they feel pressurised to do so.

Well, Icake, that was obviously your first mistake.

I was often to be found telling my sons to finish the crusts on their bread, otherwise their lungs would wither.

And now they both have much bigger lungs than me (not a euphemism).

NextRinny · 16/05/2025 12:59

If 1 girl leaves a sport because she doesn't want to play with boys on a girls team - who needs the bigot anyway.

If 1 boy leaves a sport because he doesn't wany to with boys on a boys team - everyone deserves to play the sport they love, on the girls team.

Go girls! Girl power! Bla, bla.
To think I used to champion this nonsense.

WearyAuldWumman · 16/05/2025 13:00

Can't say I'm surprised given their previous decision to allow transvestites under the trans umbrella.

Oh no, that's absolutely right. The girls get curly hair, the boys get big lungs.

But only if your mum bought bigoted bread obvs.

GCC is of course run by the SNP. I assume they didn't get the memo.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/05/2025 13:23

I was told they would put hairs on my chest by my suspiciously hairy chested, crust hog father.

That article, it's all trans-this, NB-the other. I know it's probably not a complete report of the meeting but there seems to have been no mention of girls at all. No mention of their participation. At least the SC judgement should keep their changing rooms SS🤞even if they name change everything else to open.

I hope someone with skin in the game challenges this.

ArabellaScott · 16/05/2025 14:07

Ohhhh I was confused. Sorry.

Glasgow Live is a supposed news outlet.

Glasgow Life is the body that runs sports/leisure facilities in Glasgow.

The latter has form for being very male inclusive.

But not the taxpayer. It’s time those organisations who are breaking the law held their employees accountable. They should be personally liable for the legal costs and fines. Instead we end up paying out for their decision to wilfully ignore the law and discriminate against us.
