Oh God was she only a minister in His Majesty's government? Oh yes totally powerless.

It's not that she was powerless, it's just the willful blindness that allows him to say she should shut up and not exist, and that women should just get out of trans women's way, and then go on to claim that it's the trans side of the argument that's being silenced.

Look at the information that's come out today about the Darlington nurses case - one of them, a survivor of sexual abuse, was told that her access to emergency surgery would be withdrawn if she refused to let the transwoman (who she was in legal dispute with, which in itself was reason enough to make it inadvisable) participate in her gynaecological operation, because the transwoman's feelings might be hurt. What the hell does that tell you about where the power lies?

She married her Dad.

Actually I should reframe this.

He married his daughter.

That sounds worse.

What’s her skin colour got to do with anything? KB holds very unpleasant views about many things, all of which some people are prepared to overlook because of her stance on women’s rights.

Yet he attacked her because of her stance on womens rights. NOT because her views on anything else! So her other views are entirely irrelevant to this. It's just an excuse to attack her.

DontTellMeWhat2Do · 11/05/2025 17:58

suspect from

No not you but it was in the post about him telling her to shut up and some of us couldn't see why her colour was brought into it.

Perhaps because she comes from an oppressed minority? She is a woman and black, which is two oppressed categories. A white male attacking a woman and a woman of colour at that, is a bad look.

FlakyCritic · 11/05/2025 18:00

DworkinWasRight · 11/05/2025 15:17

He told her to shut up because she was speaking up for women’s rights. That tells you everything about the man.

Her colour is relevant because white people have historically had, and continue to have, power over Black people. A white man telling a Black woman to shut up is enacting that power.

Exactly!

EweSurname · 11/05/2025 18:04

For my sins, I watched the Jubilee videos of debates between TRAs and conservatives (who also included trans people like Blair white) and it’s reminded me of Blossom saying “DO NOT INTERRUPT A BLACK TRANSWOMAN”.

I get that intersectionality is a thing and obviously racism is still prevalent but I think it leans slightly into identity politics to object more to DT telling a black woman to shut up because she’s black. The fact that he is telling a woman to shut up when she’s defending her rights is a big enough problem IMO.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 11/05/2025 18:23

Those of you defending his attack on KB are completely missing the point. Whether you agree with all of her views or not is irrelevant, I fundamentally disagree with her on almost everything. What she was defending is biological FACTS, not opinions or feelings but facts. Facts that have just recently been clarified by the SC.

Whether you worship DT or not, he’s wrong and KB is right, on this issue. Also, the fact that a privileged white man feels he is justified in making misogynistic, vitriolic and public attacks on successful women, tells you all you need to know about him. I hope none of you defending him because you don’t vote Tory or you don’t like KB, ever find yourself in a similar situation with a powerful man.

Why is Mumsnet so weird? David Tennant is an utterly brilliant actor and a thoroughly nice human being. Just because his views don't align with your own does not make him a bad person.

Why do you find it weird that women have opinions and feel comfortable expressing them?

Would you find it less weird if we obediently did as we're told and said only nice things that at heart we deeply disagree with? I'd find that weirder.

Did you not read, up thread, Tennant saying However, until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist any more –"

I know wishing for someone to stop existing is very mild by trans standards of abuse. But it is far from ‘thoroughly nice’. As is his support of an ideology that erases women’s simple basic human rights and allows medical experimentation on children.

He gives me the creeps. He’s seemed unable to discard neither the Dr Who nor Good Omens ‘quirky suits’ personae and is now rapidly ageing into skinny Liberace. Perhaps it’s little wonder if his children aren’t learning how and why to distinguish fantasy from reality.

I came across this thread and joined the forum because I posted, “David Tennant gives me the creeps“, in Google to find out if anyone else felt the same🤣

I’ve felt like this about him since the first time I saw him as himself on TV, years ago. He was so popular and I loved him so much as Doctor Who, that I didn’t tell anyone. I still love everything he’s ever acted in, but I can’t watch him being himself – it’s awful.

These days, having seen his behaviour around the trans issue, I suspect he’s thoroughly unpleasant underneath the surface charm.

Anyway, somewhat late to the conversation, but hey 🤣

And if his son is young and only non-binary at the moment, surely there's room to row back from that? It's not the same as if he'd gone the whole hog with hormones and surgery yet.

Gosh now the there’s a thing, fancy not chamicalisiing his trans child? Not trans enough then is he? (As my daughter was told)
Rich person wants to be trendy so puts child in trendy clothes, and access to the best counseling and schools and education.
a far cry from the teens with no money, no hope and stuck in dreary towns who are being persuaded that chemicals will make their lives suddenly trendy and glam too. And no, to every idiot that says there’s lots of counseling blah blah before a child is chemicalised. They are so swept up in this crap that people like Tennent flag as cool, that they buy the stuff from Asda online and microdose.
Do at least a BIT of reading David.

SidewaysOtter · 09/09/2025 11:06

I always liked him...and then I saw him in that bloody t-shirt calling people 'absolute freaks' for thinking that medicalising children is a bad idea.

The fact that he's doubled down and failed to comment on the Gaiman allegations just reinforces my sharply-revised-downwards opinion.

Davros · 09/09/2025 11:26

The 80s? Who remembers the UB40 song “I am a One in Ten”? The band’s name refers to an Unemployment document and the song refers to unemployment rates

Davros · 09/09/2025 11:33

PriOn1 · 10/05/2025 19:14

This comment (below) as well. Utterly out of touch. The 1980s were better than the present in many, many ways. Not perfect, obviously but young people leaving school could get stable, permanent jobs. There were way fewer living in poverty and children’s mental health had not plummeted through the floor. Jilly’s worldview was always fascinating because it was so far removed from my personal experience anyway. Hardly normal life for most.
**
“When Jilly wrote it, it was the world as she experienced it. Now, we can enjoy the awfulness of the way things were, because we can be slightly smug in the fact that it’s not quite as awful as it was then.”

My opinion of him went down when he married a woman young enough to be his daughter and has been going down further ever since.

Edited

Sorry, replying to this

I can't believe how much I used to like him, compared to how much I dislike him now! What an arse. He's still the best Doctor Who though!

Tom Baker was and is and will ALWAYS be the best Dr. Who. I will not be argued with on this 😂

And Matt Smith was a better modern Dr. than Tennant. Just more... Doctory lol. Tennant was just playing Casanova again but in a bad suit.
I thought this long before Tennant showed us all who he really is.

Brilliant. It fits so well.

Know him well, do you? His public behaviour shows otherwise. I can't believe he's any better in his private life. People rarely are.

The difference being, mrstrickland was making a statement of fact whereas MistyGreenAndBlue was stating her belief.
