Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nonsensical, blame the guy Myrtle was listening to this evening!

Beetle has a self raising floor!?

I suppose she needs the gimmicky floor to make up for the plain one.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/05/2025 23:30

Handy for reaching the top of cupboards. You don't have to get the steps out.

Swashbuckled · 06/05/2025 23:30

That’s very true. We’re all going to want one now. I’m googling already!

I don’t even like the laughter emoji, it’s ugly. Need a smiling gerbil emoji.

Beetle has a self raising floor!?

I'm having a very bad word day today! My brain is not spotting the mistakes and autofuckup is of no use whatsoever.

Boiledbeetle · 06/05/2025 23:43

I've had two slices of red velvet cake to be sure and for 80p it's OK. I wouldn't buy it at full price though, it doesn't really live up to the decadence levels expected by the name

lcakethereforeIam · 07/05/2025 00:02

I'm always disappointed in red velvet cake. Not that it's bad but it never lives up to its appearance.

Good idea to have 2 slices just to be sure.

I've had a similar experience, although the red velvet cake I tried was free, because it was brought by someone to one of those works do's. I found it ever so disappointing.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 07/05/2025 00:17

Does it taste of anything, or is it just very, very red?

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 07/05/2025 00:29

@Swashbuckled gets it 😆

Not even particularly red!

Humph

We may have to bribe the Council for the food hygiene certificate.

I'll get some of our far right millions out of the vault!

The gerbils can have my food hygiene sustificate, I don't need it any more.

That will keep our far right millions safe for a while.

You expect a sort of quite moist chocolate cake with something red tasting in it but It's just like a slightly dry chocolate cake where they didn't put enough cocoa in, and you wonder how many beetles died in vain for the colour (I'm sure it contains no beetles) the butter icing seems to have the most flavour.

I should hope not

I once made some red velvet muffins with a friend (iirc she was practicing for a Pampered Chef demo) - they were made with beetroot and each had a raspberry sunk into their centre. They were moist and tasted as you’d hope something that colour would.
I know some people have a horror of vegetables in unexpected places but they really can work in a cake so long as they don’t dominate the flavour - in this case the slight earthiness of the beetroot was fine as a base note under the cocoa and raspberry.

I didn’t realise most ‘red velvet’ cakes just had pointless red dye in them - wtf is the point of that?

Oh, they sound divine!

DeanElderberry · 07/05/2025 07:42

That reminds me I want to make this red velvet cake, which contains no (zero) (0) beetles. No idea what it tastes like, but it looks pretty. I just need to plant some ingredients for it.

Anything with a root vegetable in it is categorically earthly!Grin
a quick search shows there are quite a lot of recipes for red velvet cake containing beetroot.

DeanElderberry · 07/05/2025 07:44

oh snap @ErrolTheDragon

DeanElderberry · 07/05/2025 07:51

Having read the account of last night's cakeries it strikes me that this is one way mysterious TERF cells of subversion form, there's me and @FuzzyPuffling with our shared fondness for LDC and other things, and some of you with your Tunnocks, and all of us co-operating (with the help of the gerbils) for harmony and the betterment of the world.

I went to bed a little anxious because my organic waste bin hadn't been collected, and an uncharacteristic time-out meant I had had to put some food in it along with lots and lots of nettle and dock roots and was afraid of maggots. Oh the joy of hearing the rumble of the truck at 6:05 this morning.

DeanElderberry · 07/05/2025 08:00

And now I'd better go and fill some containers with water for drinking and other containers with water for flushing to loo because the electricity is going to be off from 9:00 until 18:00. Which is going to be a nuisance.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/05/2025 08:28

Beetroot is the creation of the devil.
I've tried, I've really tried- I've had it in cake, savoury goods and juice and it still tastes like compost.
QED.

Good luck with this Deano. It sounds like a right pain. Can you go out?

Although why do you need lecky for flushing the loo?

Magpiecomplex · 07/05/2025 08:44

Bugger. Didn't get the job. The (male) internal candidate got it.
