According to the Guardian report on this: "This decision is understood to affect 20 registered transgender players in England, and the FA said it would reach out to them to explain the changes." Only TWENTY. And yet potentially hundreds of women (on their teams, on the teams playing against them) disadvantaged by their inclusion. This makes me mad.

yeah, always the same arguments:

'this issue doesn't affect many people... it follows that "my side" must be given everything that it demands, the full list, in its entirety'.

work that one out.

This stat is not correct, either. WRN/FPfW established that last year, it was 72 men cleared to compete in women's football.

It's like dominoes, they all seem to be going down at once. I wonder how much of this was coordinated behind the scenes, in terms of announcement timing.

I've thought for years that sport might be the key battleground. The average bloke in the street is more comfortable discussing fairness because of men being better at a thing than women than he is with fairness because of the danger men pose.

It is. I’m so relieved the ruling went as it did.

We’d be in a bad place if it didn’t, I know I shouldn’t bother thinking of that but sometimes do.

EasternStandard · 01/05/2025 14:37

The radio isn’t the best medium for some speaking on this.

I mean for them that is.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 01/05/2025 14:41

More good news. Hopefully people are starting to see the endless whining from this tiny group of men that society has emboldened to breach women's boundaries. 😑

borntobequiet · 01/05/2025 14:45

I might have complained at the BBC News headline that was all about trans women being banned from playing in women’s football and the subsequent clip of some TW whinging about it. But he sounded so male and so annoyingly self pitying, I thought it would make some people stop and think.

TheSpottedZebra · 01/05/2025 14:55

Did anyone catch the bbc one o'clock news on the TV.

Dan Roan, bbc sports correspondent, said '... transwomen - biological males- blah blah blah'.
He'd not have been able to call that out explicitly before I think?

To be honest I’ve just complimented the BBC website for accurately saying they have been barred from “women’s football.” An improvement from pre-SC when they would have just said “football.”

I know it’s not perfect but the change in language is in the right direction and I prefer the carrot to the stick approach.

LlynTegid · 01/05/2025 15:02

Good to read this.

Not the thread to list the other things about football, women's and men's that I would like to see change.

I think Justin Webb got into trouble at some point on similar

Poor old Tom Daley, who wanted trans woman to be able to play in any sports groups they felt most comfortable in will be crying into his knitting today.

While shopping online for a third surrogate child?

Fantastic! What a good news day. Football and netball. And no one’s being excluded. Men can play in men’s or mixed categories. No unfairness to anyone.

There never had been any unfairness to men (including transwomen) — all the unfairness was to women and girls.

From the BBC report
Natalie Washington, campaign lead for Football vs Transphobia, said transgender women are now likely to give up football "Most people clearly don't feel that they can go and play in the men's game for reasons of safety, for reasons of comfort."
Oh the irony 🙄

Ironic, yes, you do wonder if they can actually hear what they’re saying.

Of course the safety, let alone comfort, of women is too irrelevant to mention.

ChateauMargaux · 01/05/2025 16:00

The science hasn't changed.... nor has the law.. the FA statement terrible. This is about protecting women not sanctioning men.

The FA has consistently refused to speak to women on this matter and has issued harsh penalties to players who have questioned the rules.

We can only hope that some conversations are happening where the decision makers come to the understanding that this is the right thing to do and somehow manage to influence FIFA to make the same changes.

schloss · 01/05/2025 17:05

The DT is reporting the ECB is expected to announce the same tomorrow thank goodness.

Had a tad of a smile reading "In a move welcomed by the Prime Minister, the Football Association (FA) confirmed it was stopping those born male from playing in the women’s game" - the same PM who also said women can have a penis.

DH just got home and said this.

He was listening to TalkSport on the drive home from work and said them introducing "Francesca" who then proceeded to sound very male, will have undermined everything they were saying.

I wonder if that poor girl who got banned for asking if that player on the other team was a man will get any kind of apology.... obv not.

She hasn't had any kind of apology yet

borntobequiet · 01/05/2025 17:39

Sharron Davies being wonderful on PM. What a phenomenon she is.

JuneFromBethesda · 01/05/2025 17:40

Anyone else listening to PM on R4 now? I didn’t catch who’s talking, is it Sharron Davies? She’s brilliant. I want to cheer!
