I would suspect, as many wise women have repeatedly said on this board, that the insurance companies are realising that the SC judgement will mean big payouts if a man injures a woman so they are causing the reverse ferrets.

It’s always going to be money that counts for more that the safety, dignity and privacy if women and girls.

Helleofabore · 01/05/2025 11:11

Oh Noes!!!!!

I imagine that all that published work that Blair Hamilton has done to justify the positions that Blair took in female teams will be wasted now. Oh no!

SquirrelSoShiny · 01/05/2025 11:13

I can't even celebrate because we've just wasted a decade to end up back at where we started. So basically a decade of potential progress lost and women injured and vilified along the way.

I wonder if that poor girl who got banned for asking if that player on the other team was a man will get any kind of apology.... obv not.

That was so bad. Even more than an apology.

CiaoMeow · 01/05/2025 11:14

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssss!!!👏🍾⚽

Mollyollydolly · 01/05/2025 11:17

Ahhh this one is sweet, especially as they've treated women who've objected with complete contempt. That Supreme Court judgement a bit too buttock clenching for them. Oh and thank to Gary Lineker for speaking out when it mattered (sarcasm).

Helleofabore · 01/05/2025 11:21

It will be interesting if the Australian football organisations take note. Probably not because there is still fear about the anti-discrimination act. But I hope for change there too

Pluvia · 01/05/2025 11:32

It's great news. First Scotland, then England. Still waiting for Wales to fall into line, but Wales is still totally trans-captured and doubtless there will be another long delay followed by a maybe-maybe-not-this-is-all-very-toxic statement. I live in Wales, love the quality of life available here but the governance is frankly embarrassing.

I think the 6ft transmen will be getting some exercise. Although those on testosterone will be barred anyway. There's very little concern about how they'll get a game.

To state the obvious, this doesn't stop anyone from playing football. Some folx may have to satisfy themselves with a kickabout in the park. Or, they can eschew the FA and start their own trans/open leagues.

Yes and the best thing about this is that the headline shows the BBC (or some of them) are taking baby steps towards being more accurate with their reporting - Transgender WOMEN banned from women's football. For the last few years it would have said trans PEOPLE banned as if its a gender identity/anti trans issue, not a single sex sports issue.

Pluvia · 01/05/2025 11:36

That's interesting. Netball is big in Australia, IIRC, so that may also reverberate.

I'm hoping the outbreak of common sense here (as @SquirrelSoShiny says, just a turning back of the dial 10 years) will shame Australia, Canada and New Zealand back to sanity.

Statement

The Supreme Court’s ruling on the 16 April means that we will be changing our policy. Transgender women will no longer be able to play in women’s football in England, and this policy will be implemented from 1 June 2025.

Great news

I also love that it's so clear that it's a change, rather than fudging the issue.
Evidence that yes, they were breaking the law all this time, and nope it's not just about toilets- all the 'it never happens' stuff WAS happening.

ItsCoolForCats · 01/05/2025 11:38

I suspect we will now have some heartrending interviews with transwomen claiming they will have to leave the sport they love forever (while missing the point that they should never have been allowed to play in the female category in the first place).

The test for the FA now is to show how truly inclusive they are. They took the cowardly and easy route to 'inclusivity' by sacrificing the women's category.

Now they will have to figure out a different way, such as making the men's category the inclusive one and allaying the concerns of trans-identifying men who say they won't feel safe to compete in it.

CaptainFuture · 01/05/2025 11:41

Just heard the biggest 'boo hoo, isn't this awful for the poor transwomen' reporter on radio...
Overly incredulous and sounding upset..
'Transwomen are being BANNED from being able to play football..... so far they have been able to play in women's football leagues as long as they had testosterone levels that were below a certain level, but not anymore as the new legislation BANS them from playing football'....
Errrrr nobody's banned from playing football!

I think Blair is speaking at an event tonight about women's sport.

To be a fly on the wall!

NUFC69 · 01/05/2025 12:18

I'm furious, I have just listened to Sky Sports News about this. They had a TW on who was trying to tug at the heart strings. And then the person said to think about the damage it would do to TW to have to play with men. It was all about them not being able to play, just a brief mention of Sharon Davies' tweet. No mention of safety for women and girls.

WandaSiri · 01/05/2025 12:23

"damage". Yeah right. Words mean absolutely nothing to the TAs.

Why not ‘with immediate effect’ (or better still retrospectively as of royal assent of the EA 2010)?

I’m sick of pandering to morons continually breaking the law! There’s nothing to consider surely?!

LivelyFinch · 01/05/2025 12:34

Boils my piss that science and laws are being mentioned. Both things that made a clear delineation between male and females but have been totally ignored. Till now!
