After this series of The Traitors the very first thing that pops into my head in a word association when the word 'Doll' is said is "Too Greedy" and the image of those creepy dolls.

Those Traitors dolls frightened me way more than Chucky managed to back in the 90s.

Although the first thing they do bring to mind for me is Alexander singing Sper Buh Yer Yer Yer. So it's not all bad!

It’s “I know my mate is an autogynophile and not a woman because there’s no way I would call a woman a doll”

His brother is now a trans woman, that's why he keeps going on about it.

Ah. I can’t imagine why the brother of an internationally famous actor would decide they wanted the spotlight on them to be trans.

More disgusting misogyny from the people who claim to dispense of sexual stereotypes

According to this post from Reddit, (nicked from this tweet https://x.com/MsH_Australia/status/1915376138840662289 ) Doll isn't even a universally-accepted term in that community.

Doll = passing
Brick = doesn't pass (short for brick shithouse?)

@Fenlandia Well it wouldn't be would it?

A few decades ago the homosexual transsexuals wanted nothing to do with the heterosexual transsexuals (AGPs, transvestites etc) and this appears to be another attempt at doing that.

Seems like some in that community are as unpleasant to each other as they are to women!

Willoughby's interventions are so revealing. Women really don't talk to each other like this. Especially not mainstream women journalists or TV personalities in a public forum. Frumps?!

I think it changed from the two groups wanting different things to realising that if they went after their common enemies, they'd each be more likely to get the things they wanted.

"doll", or "dollface", seems a bit 1940s, maybe I could see Humphrey Bogart saying it.

Or perhaps it was more like independent groups like Stonewall who expanded into trans rights to maintain funding that sort of brought the two groups together. I've always found it odd that heterosexual men were suddenly part of the gay rights movement.

I think cross-dressing groups like Beaumont Society (?) quickly changed to being transgender groups because if they could associate with gay rights it would be a lot easier to get their aims through.

Usually when I've heard interviews with homosexual transsexuals they do tend to be a bit sceptical of the heterosexual transsexuals, whereas the heterosexuals tend to use the homosexual transsexuals as a shield and try to martyr them.

I definitely see a difference between homosexual and heterosexual transsexuals. And a lot of the heterosexual men talking in the past week seemed to really love being treated as women despite showing very male qualities.

Now they are all offended by the clothing brand desigual launching an ad campaign called "not a doll". Obviously this is a heinous transphobic attack and nothing to do with the fact that women actually aren't dolls and generally don't like to be referred to as such. According to one of the comments on twitter, "this is so terfy, I just cant"

Absolute comedy gold.

You have to admit the timing is perfect lol

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 24/04/2025 23:43

‘dolly’ was one of the Victorian slang terms for a prostitute. ( ‘Gay’ comes from the same era and had the same meaning, there is a famous Punch cartoon of two very bedraggled and despondent women sitting at a pub table, one saying to the other ‘how long have you been gay?’ ).

Other words they rhyme with are:

knoll
soul
sole
dole

Knoll does not rhyme with the others written here.
It DOES rhyme with doll though Grin
