Gary Neville and Roy Keane are not on there, so it can't be the Real Jamie, just someone who identifies as him.

The rest are all z listers with one or two exceptions of being professional luvvies.

Edited

George Best and Bobby Charlton are missing too. David BeckHIM may make an appearance 😉

It's hilarious, because essentialism has nothing to bloody do with biology.

The idea that there is a core, or essence of humanity beyond our material bodies - 'I think, therefore I am', is at its root. And this idea of a core, unified, rational subject had started to break down by the mid-nineteenth century. Although this breakdown is often placed with the mid-20th-century existentialists it in fact started long before this and had certainly taken root strongly by the 1890s.

Essentialism is the gendered idea that women are nurturers, carers, support humans etc - gendered attributes arbitrarily attached to our sex and accepted as 'natural, common-sense' discourse. What it is not, is the biololgical fact that we have a vag and tits.

Are these people really as stupid and uninformed as they appear? (Disclaimer: that was a rhetorical question) 😖

Serafina, would you be amenable to making a thread to expand on this? I'd be really interested to hear.more, if you had the time and inclination.

Damn, I thought Billy Bragg was one of the good guys, so disappointed.

Assume this is ironic as old Bragg-face has been spitting hate toward women for a few years now.

I don’t really care about this random group’s opinion, but this is worrying: https://archive.ph/eoDSN

The younger generation has a different opinion…at leadt on the surface. When I read the article, it seems they have misunderstood a few things, and if this “constructive ambiguity” was exposed. They might feel differently, although some might find it too difficult to change their minds for tribal/social reasons.

This is far from over.

It is indeed worrying, thanks for sharing.

Robin Ince

Robin Ince is a highly annoying person.

Agree, this argument is clearly going to be used a lot. Good debate material would be highly appreciated!

Didn’t believe Oli Lipski was real but yep, they is.

I suspect there's a lot of self identified "writers" on there amidst some of the well know names. Of the "I read a sentence from a book aloud on tiktok" variety .

Quite likely. Also, there may be a sprinkling of those who sign because not to do so will be outing and that will affect their career. I belong to a writing group and have realised I need to be careful what I say and what I read out and what I might recommend - not very creative encouraging.

I do find it interesting that a group with so little skin in the game, makes such a loud noise about it.

allstarsuperstar · 22/04/2025 05:55

They just want women to know how very, very right they are without ever explaining why.

Robin Ince

Robin "science is important and most people don't understand it" Ince? Shows that anyone can stop thinking at any point.

Ince only ever saw science as a cool t-shirt.

Aisling Bea can get in the bin then.

Meh. We've got Rowling 👸.

Erin Hunter isn't even a person. It's a collective nom de plume - & they got rid of Gillian Philip for knowing what a woman is. Saved me a fortune, as dd1 instantly decided to boycott the bloody Warrior Cats books she'd been tearing through at a rate of 3 a week, which is roughly how fast they seemed to be being churned out.

I didn’t know that about Erin Hunter and it’s really upset me. DS has just started getting into those cat books. 😥

I’m astonished that Patrick Ness is on the list - he wrote a book about a society in which all of the men kill all of the women because they can’t read the women’s minds. And he’s not a ‘nobody’ author afraid of being ‘cancelled’, surely? It just doesn’t compute.

NeelyOHara · 22/04/2025 10:43

Patrick Ness is gay, I met him once and whilst he was quite nice his partner was acting like a total dick to the staff, and Patrick seemed absolutely fine with it.
His judgement didn’t seem great tbh.

krustykittens · 22/04/2025 10:45

Patrick Ness is an obnoxious arsehole in general and is particularly toxic on this issue.

He is quite the disappointment. His ugly way of expressing himself is in direct correlation with the standard of his books over the years. Chaos Walking is a very moving book.

Really, really disappointed to see Caryl Churchills name on that list. Her writing has always been about strong women and she is of an age when she knows what struggles women have gone through in her lifetime (and in history) to achieve anything looking remotely like equality.

Most of the names are total unknowns - I don’t think writing a self promoting blog really counts as being a writer, any more than signing your name on a colleagues leaving card does - a few usual suspects , and the rest are rent a signatures, which means the few people , like Churchill, who are respected for their body of work should be ashamed of adding their names to such a barrel scraping list.

viques · 22/04/2025 11:11

lifeturnsonadime · 21/04/2025 20:14

He's not on that list though so is he reverse ferreting I wonder?

Either way I'll never forgive him. He knows what a woman is.

They all bloody know.

Tinyrabbit · 22/04/2025 11:11

Most names on that list are complete unknowns.
Disappointed in Caryl Churchill though.

I don't think all the names are being vetted. Say this one out loud.

Took me a moment!
