Why haven’t the TRAs with violent signs been arrested?

CrazyOldMe · 20/04/2025 16:14

At yesterday’s protests, there were several signs calling for violence towards “TERFs” and the like.

Have these people been arrested, do we know?

If not, why not? The likes of Lucy Connolly got more than two years in prison for a tweet advocating for violence. We have also seen several arrests over signs at the Palestine/ Israel marches.

Because it's only women they're threatening.

And everyone knows women asked for it.

Heylo · 20/04/2025 16:40

from a telegraph article I’ve just read. Apparently Joe Public is seriously pissed off that TRAs went on a vandal spree and everyone’s scouring soc media for photos of them 😂:

Scotland Yard said it was dealing with a number of complaints from the public about signs and images shared on social media that were reportedly displayed at Saturday’s protest.

Snorlaxo · 20/04/2025 16:42

I bet that #TwoTierKeir doesn’t trend when the violent TRAs aren’t arrested.

ItisntOver · 20/04/2025 16:58

I would rather like Julia Long’s assailant to be arrested.

TeenagersAngst · 20/04/2025 16:59

Because they’re not considered right wing.

nauticant · 20/04/2025 17:02

Alternatively, what does the Met stand to gain by arresting the people making these violent threats?

Pleaseshutthefuckup · 20/04/2025 17:10

I've asked this question on another thread, after seeing placards asking for terfs to be hung.

So if I research this, will I find that said placard holder has been arrested? I'm going to guess no. I'm also going to agree that not many will give a shit.

There's a collective insanity underway and MN has been so incredibly helpful in supporting me to see these things I'd never before really notice.

Gettingbysomehow · 20/04/2025 17:12

Remember during covid when women went to honour Sarah Everard invluding the Princess of Wales? Women were wrestled to the ground, handcuffed and arrested for attending a peaceful memorial.
Yet men dressed as women yesterday were allowed to vandalise statues and openly display hateful placards against women even death threats and not a hair on their bad wigs were touched.
This is what we are dealing with now.

Westminster statues damaged at London trans protest - BBC News

The Met confirmed it is also dealing with a number of complaints from the public about signs and images shared on social media that were reportedly displayed at the protest yesterday and "action will be taken if there are signs displayed that breach of the law".

A bronze statue of a man in military uniform on top of a stone plinth in front of a Whitehall building. The plinth is defaced by graffiti. There are people walking past the statue.

Graffiti is found on seven statues of historic figures in Parliament Square following a protest.

GreenFriedTomato · 20/04/2025 17:34

You never see women on Posie Parkers meetings holding placards calling for violence towards trans. TRA demos are full of them but it's always 'aww the poor vulnerable trans people'
I think it's partly because the media never show this side of.them and we only see it on X or similar. So the general public have no idea how violent they are and have never seen the kind of stuff that's on Terfisaslur

DragonRunor · 20/04/2025 17:40

And then, so the media message goes, each side is as bad as the other 🤔

BeLemonNow · 20/04/2025 17:44

Fyi it is very straightforward to report crimes to the Met (if these protesters were in London) using their online form. You could mention that you would be considered a "Terf" and this is advocating violence towards yourself. There is a section to add photos, including screenshots.

The policy during demonstrations is generally not to arrest on the spot unless its necessary to do so for public safety. Because barging in can actually provoke the disorder you're trying to prevent and put people's safety at risk.

So the police investigating afterwards is quite normal. Most of those eventually imprisoned after the riots were not arrested on the spot.

And the reason Keir Starmer has not publicly ordered individuals to be arrested is that we used to consider it a bad idea for politicians to give direct orders to the police on who they should be arresting.

But sure, it's all a conspiracy.....

Heylo · 20/04/2025 17:49

The fact that now even the bbc has reported on the threatening signs and damage to statues means the police will try to make arrests.

we’re in a new era folks. The tides finally turned

ArabellaScott · 20/04/2025 18:30

Had they only just noticed the violent misogyny?!

I mean, the protests have been relatively tame. No decapitation calls so far. No smoke bombs. Nobody pouring piss over themselves. No attempted murders. This is the TRAs on best behaviour!

SirChenjins · 20/04/2025 18:35

Because they are special, delicate, rainbow flowers who simply wouldn’t be able to cope with being arrested and charged - society must capitulate to them, rather than the other way about.

You really shouldn't be surprised that women think there's been a conspiracy of inaction and silence. The majority (every?) women's / lesbian / feminist meeting has been met with masked, aggressive protesters issuing threats of violence, actual violence, drowning out women's words - even about VAWG - and trying to physically stop women going in to buildings - usually with no intervention from the police - even afterwards and despite clear evidence and complaints.

It's been a form of terrorism with misogynists clearly emboldened and seeing the lack of action from the police as tacit consent. Smaller groups of women surrounded on all sides by aggressive protesters with the police standing by and watching. Always the placards issuing threats of physical / sexual violence and often death. Far too many incidents for it to be considered just a one off.

I was thinking the same thing - it was a mostly peaceful protest, except for the content of some signs and some graffiti-ing , and it wouldn't have been very wise to wade into the crowd to arrest a handful of placard-wavers. It would have conferred instant martyrdom, apart from anything else, god knows they're bad enough at playing the victim without that🙄

It's good that the violent misogynistic anti-terf stuff is being shown in the media, I'm hope it will shock a lot of neutrals.

Summertimeblahness · 20/04/2025 18:43

Because the poor lads need to express themselves.

Conxis · 20/04/2025 18:43

That headline reads as though the police are more concerned about graffiti on the statues than the threats of hanging and stabbing people!

Well said. Once there was a man filming me & my friends at SFW. (Professional camera). He was covered up completely in a mask and trench coat. I told a police officer who asked me ‘what do you think he’ll do?’ I told her historically what TRAs do is add photos to websites and WhatsApp groups so other TRAs can try to identify women going. The police officer said ‘I’m sure they wouldn’t do that’ then her and a second po smirked at each other.

for some bizarre reason the police have been ENTIRELY complicit in this for years.

@MrsOvertonsWindow any ideas on why. Would it be instructions from politicians to treat them lightly

Kingsleadhat · 20/04/2025 18:47

Starmer quite rightly took action after the racist anti-immigration demos, making it clear that the hateful thugs would be arrested, charged and punished and that this wouldn't be tolerated . Why is this misogynistic, hate-fuelled aggression any different? Why is Downing Street so quiet on yesterday's disgraceful display?

Harassedevictee · 20/04/2025 18:52

Remember ladies this is allegedly the most vulnerable group in society. 😂
