That's a really good point. I totally agree.

If not a public enquiry [they always seem to be a decade late and many dollars short] I'd settle for a really good TV documentary/film/book on the 'Gender Scandal'.
That seems to be the route to public awareness these days.

It e'ent dead yet, who knows what fuckwittery lies down the road. More of this or some tripe we haven't an earthly about yet? I keenly aware of the time and money wasted on this. The relationships, lives and bodies damaged and destroyed. If a public enquiry can reduce the chances of this continuing, prevent it being a pause to regroup and strategise, I'm all for it. Cost be damned. I think women, gay people, autistic people, fuck it, even transpeople are owed it.

But discriminating between men and women is unlawful, as a general rule.

The Equality Act contains the exceptions to that rule.

Can you think of any situation where we actually treat men and women differently, which isn't affected by this ruling?

Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. Specifically the requirement for single-sex loos and changing rooms. It's likely that a violation of that would have to be claimed as discrimination under EA2010, rather than as a HASAW violation in its own right, unless some later appelate tribunal or court rules explicitly that "men" and "women" have their EA meanjngs.

"Like many on his political “side”, Oliver was behaving like the cultist who, now that the ridiculousness of his beliefs has been exposed, only digs in deeper. The trouble is, I’m not convinced he does, or ever did, truly believe what he is claiming. It’s rubbish, and he’s always known it. It’s impossible not to"

Vibe.

Noting the picture you used: thank you to all the other men who stood with women and held the line on this, especially @Glinner who has paid a huge personal price for doing so.

I think that most likely will be affected by this ruling though.

I don't think there's much chance that Fife is going to win against Sandy Peggie now.

I agree with you. There has to be an acknowledgement of some kind from the powers that be of how we ended up in this situation. How successive governments stood back and in many cases actively encouraged such a blatant misinterpretation of our laws.

I think you’re right. A Post Office style series. There will be millions of people who have no idea really, about the whole ‘fuss’.

It’s a great idea. One where fact IS stranger than fiction.

If you’re reading Netflix (BBC wouldn’t touch it, would they?), I volunteer to be a ‘TERF’.

I know this isn't the subject of this thread but I need to put this down somewhere. I want a public inquiry. I want to know why we travelled so far down this stupid path. I want to know why women, gay people and transpeople were failed so badly. I want to know why it took a bunch of extraordinary ordinary women and a crowdfund to spike the wheels of it. I want to know how it came so close to this nonsense becoming the law of the land as it has in other countries.

Apologies for rant and derail.

YYYYEEEEEEESSSSSS!

In a drama, I wonder how many gingers (writing as one) are even now wondering about their chance to play Ben Cooper.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/04/2025 12:29

Rupert Grint (typing that I'm not 100% sure it isn't one of the names JKR made up) doesn't seem to have much work lined up.

This is my favourite line in that article:

He does not believe in the arguments he is deploying as much as he believes in his moral superiority.

This is a clear , interesting article by someone everyone has heard of, which I can forward to people who get the overall argument but haven’t been following closely. Thank you for linking to it 🙏

What a great article!

has Ricky commented yet? OrDavecChapelle?

Well I received this from my NHS trust 🙄

Fucking hell, THEYRE STILL DOUBLING DOWN AND APOLOGISING TO RHE MENZ?!

this is public money and a healthcare organisation!

Supporterofwomensrights · 19/04/2025 13:03

@TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack in my captured organisation (in a captured sector) it was the women's staff network that was most fawning. Trans people have just had their 'most oppressed' status confirmed and the handmaidens are there for it.

NHS Trust and several arm’s length bodies with whom I work are lining up to defy this. Announcements from staff networks and union officials (usually overlapping).

I swear some of these women are writhing in ecstasy at the thought of their self-abnegation and willingness to immolate women’s rights.

considering there was no consultation of trans people by the uksc i rather think it’s that community owed the apology

They chose not to intervene. It's on them.

Nope. The Supreme Court arbitrarily blocked the requested intervention by Victoria McLoud. And yet strangely allowed Sex Matters to intervene for no discernible reason.

I suppose the SC thought they had balance opinions. The Scottish Government ignored the intervenor organisations in 2022. As the SNP said - the GRR was the most consulted on piece of legislation. The committees were chaired by Maggie Chapman MSP who is very pro trans. All the views were taken into account and the Scottish Government has supported self ID in all areas of public life. That’s a lot of input and views. I don’t understand what you think repeating the same points made by Scotgov would add? Their defence of the case made all the relevant points on behalf of the trans community - did they miss anything?

Nichebitch · 19/04/2025 13:45

I can’t wait to see the amazing victories that will be accomplished over the actual threats to women’s rights and safety, now that we have the time and energy to put in a different battle, after a marginalised community has been conquered.

I’m not sure what you mean. And the latter half seems a bit in poor taste

That’s your takeaway from Peter Daly’s informed discussion on the matters on X?

You have looked for a diversity of informed opinion, haven’t you? Not just JM, RMW, or SF?

From your name and words, I have reason to doubt your good faith and general understanding.

Go well.

ArabellaScott · 19/04/2025 14:06

No apologies spotted in the wild as yet. However, a few of the inevitable 'fascists' insults, and one 'feminazi', so far.

Because that's one person. The SC takes interventions from groups, not individuals.
