Scottish Greens being sexist again

With Sparkles no longer a member other male Scottish Greens have had to step up to continue their terrible reputation. They are doing their bit.

Scottish Greens council candidate claimed JK Rowling was a Holocaust denier and said trans rapist Isla Bryson was a woman
Exclusive: Eryn Browning has been chosen by the Scottish Greens to contest a by-election in Clydebank Waterfront but offensive historic posts have resurfaced.

There is hope the Scottish Greens might plunge into civil war after their conference. Patrick Harvie is standing down as leader but Slater is standing again and there is opposition over her elitist behaviour.

Not been in the spotlight much since being deselected Maggie now comes out for women selling their bodies.

Maggie Chapman MSP

Sex workers are experts on their own safety.

Ash Regan's Prostitution Bill claims to protect them, while completely ignoring their voices.

But Scotland For Decrim are advocating for the marginalised. I was honoured to sponsor their event, & stand up for workers' rights✊

Great article:

Rebecca McQuillan Why is Green party putting trans rights before climate change?
When is a Green party not really a green party? When its red lines exclude climate activists.
New Scottish Greens co-leaders Ross Greer and Gillian Mackay have declared that activists who are passionate about tackling climate change but don’t think that a trans woman is the same as a biological woman, are not wanted in their party.
If on the other hand you oppose Scottish independence, which puts you at odds with another key Scottish Green party policy, then you would be welcomed, they say.
Members’ views on trans rights, uniquely, seem to have been elevated to the status of heresy test.
In one sense there’s nothing remotely surprising about this, since the Scottish Greens have consistently stuck to the same line on trans rights. But it’s remarkable in another sense, because the two new leaders are adopting a stance that effectively excludes sensible moderate people who thought the Scottish Green Party existed mainly to campaign on the environment. That’s potentially an awful a lot of people.

Oh dear the Scottish Greens are looking boring compared to the hypnotic effect of ZP. ZP is even doing sexism better than the Scottish Greens because the Scottish Greens have crushed internal opposition. Fascinating article:

Where's Scotland's Jack Polanski? Scottish Greens are going nowhere
https://archive.is/YBwvY
Even though Polanski only joined the GPEW in 2017, previously having been a LibDem activist, his strategy and style of his so-called eco-populism is much more vibrant and energetic, appealing to the growing numbers impatient for progressive politics. With Mackay being labelled the frontrunner from the start, the Scottish Greens leadership campaign was low key and muted according to most observers.
The politics espoused by Polanski are a break from the past for the GPEW. Not only did he seek to be radical but he also sought to tie up environmental concerns with economic grievances. He’s promoting a wealth tax. Meantime, Greer and Mackay offered more of the same political platitudes of campaigning for a universal income, free bus travel and higher taxation on the rich.
It’s not that these are not radical policies per se but that they seem to be a rehash of much that went before. They seemed even more tired because they came from a party that not only had been in government between 2021 and 2024 but had also often supported the SNP as the Scottish Government since 2007.
The sense of stasis was heightened when Greer and Mackay made a fist of saying that gender critical feminists had no place in their party and then Mackay said her priority concerned decriminalising abortion.

Wow even for Scotland this is crazy.

Tory MSP reported to Police over Rangers 'no more Buddhists or vegans' tweet
A Scottish Conservative MSP has been reported to police after he called for "no more vegans, Buddhists or Green Party members" at Rangers following the sacking of Russell Martin.
Murdo Fraser, a well-known fan of the Ibrox club, made the statement on social media on Sunday evening after news broke the Light Blues were once again on the hunt for a new manager.

Martin was sacked after a dismal 1-1 draw at Falkirk left Rangers languishing mid-table.
The person who complained to the police told the National: "My daughter, who is Buddhist, and many of her community friends feel insulted and marginalised by this statement. Such comments can perpetuate intolerance and division in our society."

A spokesman for the Scottish Green Party said in response to the original tweet: "This is a bizarre and ridiculous outburst, even by the repellent and undignified standards of Murdo Fraser.

"It is divisive and discriminatory and suggests Buddhists, vegans and Green supporters are not welcome around him - which is a pretty irresponsible message to be sending.

"If Rangers are to turn things around then the last person they should be taking lessons from is Murdo Fraser who represents a collapsing party and a worldview that is stuck firmly in the past."

😂

I'm not sure the Buddhist approach really chimes with nursing grievances and a victim complex. But there's a lot of misunderstanding and superficiality about.

Lalgarh · 09/10/2025 11:09

My god there are vegans in Scotland. What do the have to eat other than shortbread 🤔

There's a really good vegan bakery in Peterhead. I'm not a vegan, but enjoyed some pasties from it.

I quite like veggie haggis. I've even made it from scratch, with brown lentils.

I hate haggis in all its forms. Nothing against what's in the meat version, I just think it's proper bogging. Veggie version just as bad.

Unfortunately for me, being Scottish and saying you don't like haggis or black pudding is tantamount to a challenge to a fight. Incredulous screeches of 'you've not not tried the right haggis, you philistine!'.

Nope, it's bogging.

ArabellaScott · 09/10/2025 16:57

I respect your right to be ahaggis, Waitwhat.

My wife once bought one by mistake, it was all oatmeal and just a sort of peppery skirlie.

If anybody is coming to Oban, Sorcha Bakery (only Fridays and Saturdays) a few doors down from St John's Cathedral is vegan and fabulous.

Also, I suspect vegan Shortbread might be a bit shite. Real shortbread has a lot of butter in it.

I have a Polish friend who's vegan. I asked her how it was even possible to be Polish and vegan. She said that under communism it was pretty easy 🤔

SionnachRuadh · 09/10/2025 20:21

I have to admit I'm quite fond of haggis, but I'm not mad keen on neeps. Haggis and colcannon is a good combination for me.

More appetising than the Greens at least. I suspect they're massively inflating their membership numbers, but surely it says something that Ross Greer is pretty high profile, and Patrick Harvie had been grooming him for leadership, and he still struggled to get 300 comrades to vote for him.

Ross Greer and Zack Polanski. The lads left pinging soggy crisps at each other at the end of a youth club disco.

That makes me embarrassed to be Scottish. Even if he meant it as a slight to vegans, Buddhists and greens, who cares? It's not like he's calling for violence. It's a silly comment about football. They should feel embarrassed about involving the police.

SionnachRuadh · 10/10/2025 11:56

I know Buddhism has a certain image in the west, but Sri Lankan Buddhists can be pretty warlike when the mood takes them. They might liven things up at Ibrox.
