Scottish Greens being sexist again

With Sparkles no longer a member other male Scottish Greens have had to step up to continue their terrible reputation. They are doing their bit.

Scottish Greens council candidate claimed JK Rowling was a Holocaust denier and said trans rapist Isla Bryson was a woman
Exclusive: Eryn Browning has been chosen by the Scottish Greens to contest a by-election in Clydebank Waterfront but offensive historic posts have resurfaced.

There is hope the Scottish Greens might plunge into civil war after their conference. Patrick Harvie is standing down as leader but Slater is standing again and there is opposition over her elitist behaviour.

Wadhwa though. If he's 8th out of 12, what on earth are the bottom 4 like? Confused

Not sure about the other 3 but Alex is this horror -

Though tbf, trying to defund women's support organisations is very on brand for the Scottish Greens so I'm surprised he's not higher up.

Yes it is now impossible only the top 6 go through. Bear in mind generally only a few hundred people are voting in ranked lists in each constituency for these internal elections so an eighth showing is awful. Even Scottish Greens don't like him.

In other news Duane commentated on the vandalism on Streeting's office. So we have a Scottish Green candidate standing at next year’s Holyrood elections in the aftermath of the attack writing: “If you don’t want ‘child killer’ sprayed onto your office, have you considered not killing children?”

This resulted in much condemnation:

For Women Scotland
https://x.com/ForWomenScot/status/1951578183175712989

"Iris" is 4th on the list for the scottishgreens in Glasgow. Here he is celebrating the actions of a group which is openly advocating targeted violence.

These people should be monitored by Prevent & would-be politicians who endorse them should be deselected!

Someone kept some receipts of Duane's previous aggressive comments on X:

Also Scottish Express has discovered a Green councilor owes over 2 grand on their council tax:

Glasgow Scottish Greens trans councillor runs up huge council tax debt as residents hit with increase
Exclusive: Elaine Gallagher made history in 2022 by being elected as Glasgow's first openly trans councillor but has failed to pay much council tax since then.

The results of the election are in Slater is out. Greer is awful, Mackay is very onboard with trans stuff, but seems less crazy than Slater which is a low bar.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8dezj76p86o

The leadership election turnout is rather absurdly low when you consider the Scottish greens have had a significant impact on Scottish politics. The contest was decided by the votes of 950 Scottish Green members, with a turnout rate of 12.5%.

Wings Over Scotland

This really is incredible. Out of 7,600 Scottish Green members:

Gillian Mackay: 323 votes (4.25%)
Ross Greer: 317 votes (4.17%)
Lorna Slater: 304 votes (4%)
Dominic Ashmole: 66 votes (0.87%)

None of the above: 86.71%

Ross Greer, who has ginger hair and glasses, and Gillian Mackay, who has fair hair and is wearing a black jumper, sit next to each other in the front row of an audience. Greer, wearing a navy suit jacket over a white t-shirt, has his right hand on Mack...

Ross Greer and Gillian Mackay elected Scottish Greens co-leaders

The contest follows Patrick Harvie's decision to stand down as co-leader after 17 years in the role.

13 votes got Slater voted out!

Risible. Embarrassing, in fact.

I also think the photo is interesting body language.

That's an astonishingly low turnout. Any guesses as to why?

Waitwhat23 · 30/08/2025 11:33

Just saw this on Twitter - an older tweet from 2022. Still very relevant and made me snort with laughter-

'I don't know what Fight the Power played on a kazoo sounds like but I know what it looks like.'

Those voting stats are very depressing. The leaders of a political party chosen by 640 people. The lines about 'lacking a mandate' and 'not representing the people' write themselves.

SG have chased out a lot of their more sane members. A lot of the remainder clearly are somewhat apathetic.

Nevertheless they may win the same seats or more in Holyrood next year.

One potential development which might undermine the Scottish Greens next year is the Corbyn party. They will be competing for some of the same votes. That alongside with the rise of Reform means it is going to be a bit of a wild election.

Plus sooner or later in the election people are going to confront them over the gender ideas they pedal.

The Scotsman is full of speculation about what comes next. Though it doesn't seem to confront the fact that the level of crazy of the Scottish Greens is going to be a clear factor in the rise of Reform.

Can the new Green leaders be the antidote to Farage and the Right?

From the article:

”Greer also vowed to take on "bigots and the conmen" directing anger at the most vulnerable people in society.”

Well, we’re all aware of what that’s code for.

He’s not talking about refugees, or his disabled constituents, or those who’ve developed drug or alcohol dependencies, or rough sleepers or….

maltravers · 30/08/2025 13:18

Did anyone else see the green candidates for leader on Newsnight last week? When asked about their priorities I didn’t catch any mention of “trans issues” or similar. This suggests that although the Green “party” is obsessed with the issue, the would be leaders know the wider public is so over this crap and is more wanting some focus on climate change and the environment. Best not offend those voters until in place, then the mania resumes I imagine!

ArabellaScott · 30/08/2025 13:32

Pertinent comments on the managed decline and failure of Holyrood:

https://annemarieward.substack.com/p/who-is-holyrood-really-for

'We were told devolution would bring power closer to the people. Yet for the people I know, in addiction, in recovery, in poverty, Holyrood has never felt further away.
And don’t tell me people are apathetic. They are not apathetic. They are alienated. When nothing on the ballot speaks your language, when no one in the chamber knows your struggle, staying home is not apathy. It is common sense.'

PaterPower · 30/08/2025 16:04

We were told devolution would bring power closer to the people

In reality it just doubled up on the number of grifters. Devolution just added the idiots in Holyrood to the gravy train, whilst keeping the number of Scottish MPs in Westminster the same.

And you can’t even directly vote a good chunk of them out. Party list leads to MSPs who aren’t accountable to the electorate.

NasturtiumsAreUnderrated · 30/08/2025 18:16

Received wisdom is that most party members are inactive and voting for party leaders is their only engagement. It's not uncommon for people to join or re-join one of the main parties in order to vote in an anticipated leadership election. If >85% aren't even interested in doing that I wonder what they think they are getting out of membership? It seems unlikely that they think all the candidates were equally suitable.

My guess - in the absence of insight from someone who follows SGP politics more closely than I do - is that membership is actually much lower than the figure assumed by Wings (not clear where it comes from):political parties are notoriously slow to remove people from membership registers. I'm curious as to whether the SGP permitted lapsed, indebted and resigned members to vote - you’d hope there was a purge before eligibility to vote in the leadership election was coded, but possibly not. If that level of administrative incompetence did prevail the should-be-ex members don't seem to care who leads the party - perhaps they reckon it will soon be an electoral irrelevance?
