It sounds like these judges have been reading Mumsnet for their detailed argument - they’ve got it all. Incredible.

That's because common sense, logic and consistency is the responsibility, and duty, of the Law.

Now individual providers need to have it made clear that single sex exemptions relate to biological sex and not 'certificated sex'.

Helleofabore · 16/04/2025 10:15

It was wonderful. And like a FWR thread.

i am jogging at the moment so i have so much to read. Just amazing.

Gender may be meaningless but a law that allows people a certificate that gives them the right to change their sex marker in official documents is not meaningless. Not trying to be a party pooper because this is wonderful news, I’m just trying to get my head around it all and perhaps I should stop and let someone else do the hard work.
In the meantime 🍾🍾🍾🎉🥳🍾🍾🍾🍾

I hear you.

How do you ban a person with a female passport out the ladies, even if they have a sausage?

Iamnotalemming · 16/04/2025 10:16

Fucking hell, what a brilliant outcome.
Faith in the justice system restored. 😭

JulesJules · 16/04/2025 10:16

Crying here, I truly did not expect this result. Well done FWS you bloody brilliant women

BettyBooper · 16/04/2025 10:16

The BBC coverage is outrageous!! 🤬

GCAcademic · 16/04/2025 10:16

So now TWANW is not simply a gender critical "belief".

It's a ruling by the Supreme Court.

Motorina · 16/04/2025 10:16

BBC showing a very smiley Maya outside the court.

I'm sitting here with a glass of celebratory wine, A toast to FWS and all the women who have fought this battle. It's been a long road.

Yes, the ability to have sex markers changed on official documents is one of the next battles.

heathspeedwell · 16/04/2025 10:17

Codlingmoths · 16/04/2025 10:17

Brilliant news, but its shameful that women have to take cases like this all the way to the supreme court in the first place.

Absolutely - and for the two previous courts to have rejected their claim is astonishing. Thank goodness for common sense.

I particularly enjoyed the reasoning where the judge talked about the GRC creating subgroups under the category of sex - and because noone could ask to see a GRC that made it impossible for employers/organisations to identify and meet the differing needs of the subgroups...

So in the end - caught in their own petard!
Love that.

And quite rightly trans people can rely on protection from harassment under their own section of the EA which is Gender Reassignment. Hurrah!

Villagetoraiseachild · 16/04/2025 10:17

Wonderful, bloody well done everyone . So proud, happy and weepy.

ScribblingPixie · 16/04/2025 10:17

The Fox Botherer with his usual grasp of the law 😆. I'm not on Bluesky but I'm guessing the gnashing of teeth and shaking of fists is deafening.

I've been a Sex Matters super supporter since it was founded, and have never been prouder. Money well spent on these incredible advocates for women.

Maybe he is mixing up talking to KCs with talking to himself in KFC?

snickersbarchild · 16/04/2025 10:20

BBC are mostly banging on about trans rights.
