Residential trip gender identity requested

Thankfully my children go to sensible schools so I haven't needed to dig out any safeguarding guidelines but my child is due to go on a residential trip organised by our local council. They've just asked for everyone's gender identity, they have not asked which sex the children are.

Does anyone have relevant guidance to hand please so I can send it to them?

Absolute madness, so they will force girls to share rooms with boys? Or put a gender confused young girl into an all male dormitory? Complete lack of safeguarding on display.

Email the council and say you think the wording of the form is confusing. Ask for confirmation that your child will be placed in same sex accommodation. I'm sure that will be forthcoming.

The point is if the form only asks for ‘gender’ then there is no guarantee that same sex accommodation can be organised using that information. The council need to resend all the application forms with the correct wording ( and they need to send a covering letter apologising and explaining that they have no understanding of safeguarding issues and that the person responsible for the original wording has undergone appropriate training .)
