Very welcome article. Wilfully skewing your own data so as not to upset a tiny minority of the population is never a good idea.
Thanks for the link Igneococcus

QAOPspaceman · 19/03/2025 15:57

Any chance of the Guardian reporting this actual national scandal?

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 19/03/2025 16:08

I doubt any of us are surprised, but glad to see it evidenced so clearly.

Very helpful overview of the destruction of the value of accurate data.

Thank you for the share

I would question whether gender identity data needs to be collected at all. If it isn't replacing sex, which it can't, why does anyone need to know? What relevance does it have to anything or anyone else, and how do you know whether it's accurate or not? Unless the purpose of the data is to find out how many people do claim an identity at a particular point in time (eg in the census), so as to see if the number increases or decreases over time, why bother?

In a health care setting, the important information is whether a person is taking cross-sex hormones or has had surgery, and asking for GI doesn't tell you that.

The police and the education system should only concern themselves with sex anyway.

Also reported on in the Telegraph

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/03/19/police-and-nhs-must-record-biological-sex/

It's good that the report flags that it's also detrimental to people who claim to be trans, particularly in health care.

Eta

It'll surely make it harder for so-called allies to dismiss it.

TheOtherRaven · 19/03/2025 16:40

Thank you for the share.

Women's accurate data and all it's benefits to women, confused and lost to soothe the egos of men. Sexism on steroids.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 19/03/2025 17:11

How many years have we pointed out that failing to collect data on sex was massively problematic

I mean it’s good to see it recognised but FFS!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 19/03/2025 17:44

The comments under the Times & Telegraph articles are a mix of enraged and despairing that society has had this fuckwittery foisted on it.

FarriersGirl · 19/03/2025 18:16

Some corking comments if you can see them. This is a good one

This is tantamount to tampering with public records (without the legal authority to do so) and should be a crime. A few prosecutions should do the trick (and I'd start with Stonewall followed rapidly by those civil servants, including NHS management and medics, who allowed it).

😆😆😆

Unfortunately, MN hasn't got cold, bitter laugh emoji.

Fenlandia · 19/03/2025 18:32

What an absolute mess, and all the people and institutions that have cheered this on for years despite the warnings should be ashamed of themselves.

How have we gone from "trans people just want to pee, you terf meanies" to weirdo parents transing their babies and no-one bats an eyelid?

That emoji would get very well used, especially on this board!

In one case a paediatrician said that a child had been brought up in the preferred gender of the mother, which was different to their birth-assigned gender. “She [the mother] had gone to the GP and requested a change of gender/NHS number when the baby was a few weeks old and the GP had complied. Children’s social care did not perceive this as a child protection issue,” the doctor reported.

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

fabricstash · 19/03/2025 18:40

I just read this! What gp thought it was normal to trans a baby!!

And that's so true. Until some of the toxic medics, politicians and leaders of institutions who are signed up (and in the pay of) the drug companies & the queer theory lobbyists, are dragged in front of the courts and made to pay for their actions in removing safeguarding, decriminalising sexual offences like indecent exposure etc and mangling factual data in favour of fantasy luxury beliefs (like the ONS), nothing will change.

We now need accountability. Sadly not sure that this government has enough of an interest in safeguarding children or ensuring women's rights if the offers of freebies from the Stonewall ally are available. 🙄

Helleofabore · 19/03/2025 19:01

This is also excellent as an observation.

“There are things that statistics cannot do. Statistics are not a means of personal self-expression. They can neither validate nor invalidate individual identities, and they cannot see into people’s souls.”

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

I just said that same sentiment out loud.

They won't stop. This is destroying society.

How the fuck have we got to a point where just this in itself isn't a front page scandal??! Every time you think it can't get worse, it does.

Forester1 · 19/03/2025 19:16

Sadly unsurprised by the findings but very pleased to see that this review has been undertaken. I’ve been making my small contribution by challenging the questions in our staff surveys when they have been similarly misleading.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 19/03/2025 19:24

Well well well [face palm]

Well done to Professor Sullivan, and thanks for sharing this article. I completely agree with Maya Forstater that “administrative integrity” in collecting data in these key areas should be restored asap.
