Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
TheKeatingFive · 16/03/2025 16:53

This is horrific. Basically state sanctioned sexual assault.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/03/2025 17:55

When you think it can't get worse somehow it always does.

ArabellaScott · 17/03/2025 07:53

Just came here to post this.

Appalling.

Taytoface · 17/03/2025 08:13

Yep, we aren't real people. Just pawns and props.

littlbrowndog · 17/03/2025 08:48

So you can’t get to visit a prisoner unless you agree to be searched by a man

my country is so shite

Summergarden · 17/03/2025 09:02

Oh, God. If anyone hears of a petition against this please do tag me to it or better still, start a new post to encourage as many others as possible to fight against it. What is happening to this country…

PTSDBarbiegirl · 17/03/2025 09:07

I left the SNP a couple of years ago due to this issue and I no longer support independence either. I haven’t got any faith that those in positions of influence would use it for the betterment of women and children and the most vulnerable. It’s so depressing but the only party I now remotely agree with is bloody Reform and that’s after 40 years of liberal independence support. What has happened?

“We have processes in place to ensure the rights and wellbeing of all staff are protected, in accordance with equality legislation.”

He is also searching female staff. I wonder if there was any consultation with female staff before deciding to prioritise his wants.

GingerBeverage · 17/03/2025 09:16

It won’t be a coincidence that this prison officer has chosen this role in this career.

It’s not a mistake when predators happen to access prey.

The staff have their rights, so that’s all right then. Women being assaulted? Too bad, suck it up.

INeedAPensieve · 17/03/2025 09:31

JFC.

A new low for my country. What's actually WRONG with the politicians who make these decisions? Argh. ..

Cosmosforbreakfast · 17/03/2025 11:07

Scotland, no surprise, it just gets worse and worse here.

Supporterofwomensrights · 17/03/2025 11:18

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said it does not comment on individual members of staff, but that a duty manager is available in every establishment for visitors to speak to about any concerns or issues. It said: "We have processes in place to ensure the rights and wellbeing of all staff are protected, in accordance with equality legislation."

The headline is Prison staff's concern over trans officer searching female visitors.

Which suggests they are not, in fact ensuring the rights and wellbeing of 'all staff' because at least one has had to speak to the press because they obviously felt they couldn't raise it with the prison leadership. And the SPS response simply ignores any obligation to ensure the 'rights and wellbeing' of all visitors.

AprilF00L · 17/03/2025 11:23

Jesus. What next.

OuterSpaceCadet · 17/03/2025 12:17

What
A
Fucking
Creep

No case by case needed. Just the fact he knows he's male and is choosing to do this confirms he's precisely the kind of man you wouldn't want anywhere near you.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 17/03/2025 12:59

"Prison rules say that any search must be carried out by an officer of the same gender as the person being searched, with a second officer of the same gender present."

I bet they aren't actually checking the gender of the female people being seached though, just assuming if they are female they must be women.

Yet again the bad faith slight of hand - trans women claim their gender makes them interchangeable with female people in matters of sex, even though the very arguement that allows a male person to be a "woman" also delegitimises any connection between "woman" and female-bodied.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 17/03/2025 13:06

As children often visit parents in prison this will be a man searching girls. So not just indecent assault but on a minor. The court case on this will be "interesting"

334bu · 17/03/2025 13:25

It gets worse, doesn't it.?

OP posts:
caramac04 · 17/03/2025 13:25

If he had any decency whatsoever he would step away from this process and request female officers perform searches on female visitors and staff.
But no, his wants trump everyone else’s. Sounds like a creepy predator to me. Shame on the prison governor allowing this. I’ve never been inside a prison but would find being searched by a man very very difficult even though I understand the reason for the search. I’d be ok with a woman performing the search as a necessary means to an end.

EasternStandard · 17/03/2025 13:27

Horrendous

and agree with @TheKeatingFivepost

I might actually identify as male. I'm willing to bet a male PO forced to search someone female would be more reluctant and reticent.

PonyPatter44 · 17/03/2025 21:22

I've been searched pretty much every day for ten years (in English prisons, not Scottish ones, tbf). I have never ever been pat-down searched by a male. It is simply not done. I have been "wanded" by male staff, and they always ask first. Female officers search female visitors, and children. I would be very unimpressed if we had a trans officer who demanded to be allowed to search women and babies.

I have several transgender prisoners in my prison at present. None of them have a GRC, and are searched as males, by male officers.

thirdfiddle · 17/03/2025 22:04

If the member of staff actually believed this crap, all the visitors would have to do was declare their gender as sky-blue-pink-kitten. Bingo, there is no staff member with a matching gender available to search them.

Just a common or garden male creep then.

WaterThyme · 17/03/2025 22:39

This is appalling especially since it will affect people who are in a very vulnerable position.

I’m curious about what happens in other search situations. What happens at airports? I have often been patted down by a member of security staff when the detector you walk through has beeped. Could I refuse to be searched by an individual I believed was not my sex? Do airports have policy?

SeethingHarpie · 18/03/2025 04:28

I cannot go through security X-ray machines at airports due to a pace-maker equivalent implant. I have never had a male security guard pat me down. I have had male security officers actually go and find a female official to conduct a pat down - they would just never do it.
