Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I cannot go through security X-ray machines at airports due to a pace-maker equivalent implant. I have never had a male security guard pat me down. I have had male security officers actually go and find a female official to conduct a pat down - they would just never do it.

Presumably the public nature of airports means that much of the travelling public just wouldn't accept a man touching women and girls in that way. While in the confines of a prison, visitors already feel vulnerable and aware that prisoners who they're visiting are usually punished for "misgendering" / accurately sexing other prisoners / prison staff. So they may feel unable to protest about indecent assault perpetrated by a member of staff

Which is the problem with the trans capture of institutions. It de criminalises sexual crimes such as sexual assault, indecent exposure and voyeurism. It's a predators dream and we know how predators seek out opportunities to target women and girls - especially with the additional thrill of it being in plain sight.

I’m bringing up airport searches because that would be an instance where the general public would find themselves confronted with the reality that is happening to women in prisons or being searched by transgender police officers of the opposite sex. I agree the general public would be angry but that would expose the situation.

Have airports got policy to prevent this? Do the unions accept it? Have airports just been lucky so far to escape an outcry? Or have activists avoided airports as a target because it would be an own goal?

My gender is a-gender fluid a-romantic Demi boy. Good luck finding an officer of the same gender as me to search me

This is awful. How is this legal?

Thelnebriati · 18/03/2025 11:34

Some of these policies aren't legal, the problem is it takes money and effort to challenge employers or organisations that break the law. And if a lot of them are doing it relentlessly, individuals can't fix this. Which is where the EHRC is supposed to step in.

SinnerBoy · 18/03/2025 15:10

This is even more awful, because will any female victims even dare to complain? They could well be condemned as transphobic troublemakers by the duty manager, if they do complain. I suspect strongly that many wives and partners of prisoners are not able to advocate well for themselves.

Goodness knows, but regular visits are known to help with discipline and mental health in prisons and its also important that convicts maintain relationships with their children.

Many women would just submit to it, rather than be banned from visiting.

I think they did when they advised the government that the law was a mess and to clarify what sex meant.

The government said that the existing sex fudge (the one that subordinates women and enables men to abuse them but under the cover of confusing waffle that disguises it a bit) suits them quite nicely and they are fine with it. Proud of it even.

Yes - and this power dynamic makes it even more sickening.

l wish the papers would say "man who identifies as a woman" instead of "trans". It's the maleness of the officer that's the problem.

Rightsraptor · 18/03/2025 22:13

I think OP's title is a bit misleading as intimate searches implies the searching of bodily cavities. I do not believe women visiting someone in prison have their vagina and anus probed. Nobody would ever visit prisons if that were true.

It's utterly reprehensible, of course, for any male to pat down any woman. It shouldn't be happening.

It won’t be a coincidence that this prison officer has chosen this role in this career.

It’s not a mistake when predators happen to access prey.

This, until people get their heads around this, women will be put in danger or in a position where they are sexually harassed.
