Governor of California Changes His Tune: He Agrees Men and Boys Don't Belong In Women's Sports

I always believed it would be sports that would peak the U.S. Terf Island has your women's rights activists (love them!) and non-profit medicine (Cass Report). Americans have their sense of fairness for all, especially in sports. If the governor of the largest state in the country ( $4.2 trillion GDP, an economy larger than most countries including the UK), has just said he thinks it's grossly unfair for boys to be in girls' sports, well, that's a pretty big deal.

Newsom can be critiqued for a lot (he put men in women's prisons and supported keeping secret children's transitions from their parents) but his change indicates a massive shift for the Democrats. He, obviously, wants to be president, so he's staking his "I was here first" claim on a topic that he's fully aware shows Americans are 70-80% against transwomen in women's sports. Yes, feminists said it first, but I'll take this win if it means Democrats can stop pretending men can be women. It's obnoxious we had to lose to Trump to get here, but I'm celebrating today.

Still a hard no from me he brought in the laws that makes it illegal to have single sex spaces, he made it illegal not to trans your gender confused child (ss will take and trans them). There's no way I'm letting that tra over the golden bridge

Definitely not intended as a post to praise Newsom, more of a post to show that his opinion change indicates a shift. Like him, hate him, or meh him, Newsom's voice means Democrats can follow.

I hope that this is a change
in direction. But why didn’t some Democratic Party senators vote to support the law changes or is Newsom a bellwether and will lead that change?

Oh, I have no idea why not one Dem senator could brave a vote, however, I find it strategic that Newsom pitches his flag a day after the Senate vote. He's getting ahead of any other senator with ambition to the presidency, I imagine.

Newsom is the wokest of woke. If he is even considering bailing out then others can follow and hopefully the dam will burst.

The house democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries was asked about Newsoms change of heart given the democrats just this week opposed the women and girls in sports bill and he gave such a bizarre answer about how the democrats oppose unleashing sexual predators on girls throughout the US. Like if you oppose that then you have to be against self ID and completely pro single sex spaces

Very interesting article, the Democrats quoted in it really don't get the issue or how this is about fairness not about hyperbole or hysteria

Newsom is pragmatic and will jump whichever way he needs to to get what he wants.

As a Californian politician he needed to be on the trans side but with his sights set on the presidency he needs to take the whole country into account.

He is aware that even before Trump got in half of Democrats didn't believe transwomen are women, let alone that transwomen belong in women's sports. He's positioning himself will have a hard job keeping the activists on side, but the Dems can't win the country by pandering to the progressive base. They need all the middle ground and the swing voters too.

Y'know, we have cheek swabs at elite sports level now for sex verification. At school age, just use the child's birth certificate.

The only time anyone inspected my genitals in connection with sport as a child, it was my GP because I'd met the pommel horse rather violently during PE and was bleeding from my vulva.

This is huge.

Gov. Newsom was mayor of San Francisco and a big supporter of same-sex marriage long before many leading Democrats. He defied state law to marry same-sex couples in 2004.

Someone as pro-equality as Newsom having these views will make many Democrats who haven’t questioned this up till now look again at this issue. Although there has been fury from LGBT organisations, his consistent support for gay rights will also make some people ask whether LGB & T rights necessarily belong together in the way that activists have claimed.

I have to confess, I've been agog at the Democrats these last few weeks. They (the politicians not the voters) seem to have lost their minds. I hope this is the start of a return to reality,

This confirms my view that Newsom,like many of his Democrat and Republican colleagues, is an unprincipled political opportunist.

I do not believe he cares about women, girls or vulnerable children. He would push them all under a bus if it boosted his ratings.

It is possible to realise you’re wrong and change your mind, though.

Lots on here have done just that.

Newsom is also known to be Obama's preferred presidential candidate. Would be interesting to know if Barry has had a conversation with him about this.

The next thing to watch is if the other governors thinking of running in 2028 start to reverse ferret. Josh Shapiro, Gretchen Whitmer, Wes Moore, over to you.

Being a Californian he is well briefed on Latino/ Latino sentiment. Including their hatred of Latinx. On the other hand he is yet another corporate shill.

Bittersweet.

I have to think the Dems would be mad to nominate two Californian candidates in a row. Worse than that, two San Franciscans, bearing in mind how the rest of California feels about San Francisco.

On the other hand, he's capable, intelligent and opportunistic. That might be as good as it gets.

My instinct is that Shapiro would be the candidate to beat, so I'm looking to see what he says.
