No, I wouldn’t say I expect higher standards because she’s a woman. It’s hard to explain, but it’s to do with giving attention and publicity to bullies. Someone said down thread that she’s drawing their fire to stop other women getting bullied, and perhaps that’s true.
But I will repeat my main point, “I wish she would grey rock this abusive man though, and all the other abusive men she gives publicity to.”
I love, for example, MaryCate Delvey and her “Listen to trans people,” videos. She highlights the ridiculousness of what these men say, but we never have to see them or know their names. She is absolutely brilliant and I love her work.
I hate seeing pictures of these perverts on my timeline. I hate that they are getting publicity at all, because that is what they crave. There’s no point trying to shame them and I think that sometimes, in giving them that publicity, we actually encourage them. I believe there’s some research suggesting that school shootings go down if the murderer isn’t given coverage, but we’re all so fascinated we can’t look away.
Many have said they think Upton was enjoying himself in court. Imagine how happy he’d be if JK Rowling had concentrated on him and not Sandie Peggie. Highlight the victims and stand by them, ignore the bullies.
But anyway, my admiration for JK Rowling is still huge. I contribute monthly to one of her charities and am incredibly grateful she’s on the side of the women fighting this. I was trying to express a very nuanced situation, which undoubtedly is affected by pain in my own life, inflicted by transactivism and bullying.
