More absolute nonsense about JKR being hated and anti trans

For journalists they’re not very good at understanding actual words are they?

Actors be warned: the Harry Potter remake should be avoided like the plague

John Lithgow is the latest star tipped to feature in the lavish new adaptation of JK Rowling’s books. For any actor to get involved at this point would be a grave error for so many reasons, writes Louis Chilton

Crikey, it's like we are back in 2018!
I was amused by this, trying to imply that being part of a franchise ruins careers: just look at the careers of Radcliffe, Watson and Rupert Grint – all of whom struggled to find their creative footing in the wake of Potter’s success.
There may be a quite different reason for their lack of success 🤔
The comments are largely in favour of JK and challenge the 'anti-trans' slur, except for one, so the author doesn't have the captured audience they may think they have

nauticant · 14/02/2025 16:06

They're assuming that JKR doesn't sue people. Not quite true. She avoids it as much as possible but sometimes, when the right target emerges, she will sue.

Oh that's hilarious- they've got a LOT further in their careers with her than they ever would have without her! Now them not being Oscar winning actors is her fault too... a woman's place truly IS 'in the wrong'.

FranticFrankie · 14/02/2025 16:13

Not this old chestnut again
Mr Chilton seems a tad angry
Silly man
Most of the comments are sensible

GalacticTowelMaster · 14/02/2025 16:41

I wonder if Chiltern would have advised actors to avoid appearing in Roman Polanskis or Woody Allen films on moral grounds... somehow me thinks not

GalacticTowelMaster · 14/02/2025 16:42

Chilton

I love the fact that this garbage is churned out by a newspaper owned by a Russian oligarch and a dodgy Saudi.

Britinme · 14/02/2025 20:01

I put a couple of comments on that article and noted that the vast majority were pro-Rowling.

TheKeatingFive · 14/02/2025 20:08

Who even is this person? 😵‍💫

RedToothBrush · 14/02/2025 20:27

"warned"

Oooo a threat is it?

Whats the punishment?

Six months on the naughty step from the Cool-Kids?

OvaHere · 14/02/2025 20:35

Do they not remember all the fuss they made about the Hogwarts video game and how that worked out for them?

Whereas before being cast in Harry Potter, they were massively successful actors, weren’t they? Er no, because they were 11 years old.

Oh yes. They think if they keep shouting loud enough what an evil terf she is and how everyone hates her then it will somehow come true.

Except it’s actually had the opposite effect as the majority of people share her views and she’s more popular than ever.

I r never read any of the books or seen any of the films but I love her

Another thing that makes me laugh about these articles is that it so obvious they are written by people who were serious Harry Potter nerds. Has Louis chucked out his books, DVDs, lego hogwarts, Gryffindor robe and replica nimbus 2000? Or are they hidden at the back of the cupboard so he can get them out when nobody is around?

Chersfrozenface · 14/02/2025 21:55

Could I just ask, who is Louis Chilton when he's at home?

Absolutely, they assumed everyone outside their echo chamber felt as they did. Except that it turned they were the minority and Hogwarts Legacy was a thumping success.

<side eye at a Chilton, whoever the fuck he is>

FrippEnos · 14/02/2025 22:11

I'm not sure why this is relevant but IMHO
Radcliffe seems to have done quite well for a child to adult actor
Grint hasn't bothered after HP
and Watson isn't that good an actress.

JazzyJelly · 14/02/2025 22:19

Never heard of him.

soupyspoon · 14/02/2025 22:20

I cant read the article due to adblocker, who is Louis Chilton?

Britinme · 14/02/2025 23:28

I e seen Grint in a couple of things in the last few years and he’s a better actor now than he was then.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/02/2025 00:10

Never heard of him. Googled.. Louis^ Chilton^ is a video games reporter and culture reporter for various publications, covering topics such as music, movies, TV, and LGBTQ issues

This thread is likely the most interest that will be shown about a piece by this nonentity in the 'independent premium' which probably very few people can access even if they wanted to.

Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) was pretty good in the recent Wolf Hall - the Mirror and the Light.

thirdfiddle · 15/02/2025 00:34

Sounds like a win-win for Rowling, preachy extremists won't apply and she can enjoy the success of the new series with a nice cast who aren't trying to police each other's speech and cancel people.
It'll be a smash hit of course. Everything Potter is a smash hit, kids adore it, and plenty of adults have a sneaky fondness too.

DoNotAdjustYourSex · 15/02/2025 02:54

The last time I heard anything about Grint, it was something to do with having to pay 1.8m back tax.

Just looked it up and apparently this is the second dispute with HMRC, totalling
£2.8m

This tells me two things. Firstly he should be so bloody grateful to JKR, she has plucked him from obscurity and made him into a multi millionaire, secondly, you can tell a lot about a person and their tax affairs.

He was also very good in The Queen’s Gambit.
