would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

Do you think he should have the massive procession through the streets of London with all the soldiers and the horses and the gun carriage and the funeral in Westminster Abbey?

While more deserving of a state funeral than many, I somehow don't think that'd be what he'd want.

We're going to miss him when he's gone.

Yes.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 05/02/2025 23:35

I agree he'd probably not be all that keen, but he's earned it and won't be there to mind.

This. But you're also right, Errol.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 05/02/2025 23:38

didn't the diplodocus used to be pronounced brontosaurus?

Same family but different species - the diplodocus is smaller and more lightly built (in as much as a sauropod can be light).

Brontosaurs weren't talked about for ages because they'd been rolled in with apatosaurs, but they've now decided they are 2 separate species again.

You may fascinate a woman by giving her a piece of cheese

NOW we’re talking. Can I put in a word for the Trois Vallages triple cream cheese? You can get it in Waitrose and it’s lush. But now I’m thinking of cheese, I remember I’ve got a rather nice blue in the fridge and I made oatcakes yesterday… <wanders off to fetch supper>

Have you tried goat's cheese and squashed fresh redcurrants on oatcakes ?

I love this! Thank you x

Dragons aside, I find it interesting that the only posters throwing petty insults around are the ones claiming NOT to be transphobic....
🧐

That's because you're labelling people.
Calling people "tRanSphObiC" is labelling.
Nobody likes that.

Ooh, I will remember this when my redcurrants are fruiting in summer.

dp had a chocolate eclair stolen by a duck once, and an ice cream by a giraffe. He was 4 or 5 years old when the giraffe incident happened but a fully grown man when the duck outwitted him.

Igneococcus · 06/02/2025 06:50

Spike is the dragon from My Little Pony. Not sure if he's in the crappy current version but was in the original proper version
I had no idea. I don't think my children ever watched MLP. Spike will always be Buffy's Spike to me.

I must admit I’m not a huge fan of goats cheese. It’s just a bit too…goaty.

Likewise sheep’s cheese tastes kinda sheepy

Oddly I seem able not to taste cow in cow’s milk. Spider milk is a thing. I haven’t tasted it but apparently it is super nutritious

Goat’s cheese is the devil’s work. But then I had a friend who always ordered takeaway or we went out to eat and one time she offered to cook. Staggered, as I knew she hated it, I said only if you’re sure.

She had asked her mum for a menu and went to an extraordinary effort to make it. She was both hyper and half broken when we arrived. The starter, a salad with goat’s cheese. Not the creamy delicate tiny mound. Nope a whole ass roundel bastard with only a salad garnish. I ate the whole thing because I am stupidly polite sometimes.

SinnerBoy · 06/02/2025 07:58

Spider milk! Wow, just wow!

I've been mugged by a deer. Prinknash abbey used to have a bird and deer park with vending machines of deer food, it was quite near where the ILs lived so we'd take DD there. I had a snack pack of Jaffa cakes in my coat pocket for her, which vanished after a close encounter of the herd kind.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/02/2025 08:20

Some birds make 'crop milk' too - I think it's why pigeons can breed year round.

This might be outing... but DH was attacked by a giant turtle when we were on our honeymoon.

As in it swam up to us and but him on the leg... he wasn't bothering it!

It actually tastes of stable! But I’ve mysteriously acquired the taste for it in the last 5 years.

I have to disagree.
It tastes how goats smell.
Goats smell of goat. Not stable, which smells of horses.

I've never tried mare's milk, so have no idea what that tastes of.

teentantrums · 06/02/2025 09:10

I love goat's milk and goat's cheese. I also buy goat's milk kefir which has the added bonus of no-one else in the house liking it - otherwise ds scoffs the lot.

I thought the goaty smelling place where goats live is called a stable. I am wrong. It is, apparently, a loafing shed. With loafing benches for loafing benches for loafing on.

They are without doubt the Roman citizens of the animal world.

I never realised how bloody big they are!

The UK's largest land predator. I was staying in a very posh bit of south London a few years ago and one came out of a hedge in a neighbouring garden and ran into a nearby park. Bloody fast bugger it was.

I thought we were still talking about slugs, and panicked a bit, I'm not ashamed to say, @MyrtleLion - then I realised you were talking about a badger. 😂

I binged on goats' milk and cheese when I first went dairy-free about 15 years ago. Loved it, then one day I'd just had enough. Like marzipan. Binged on it as my aunt made my 6th birthday cake but couldn't face the cake itself.

I still like goats' butter but nothing else.

Yes, slugs are not known for their speed. Had one come into my front room once and it made pretty patterns on the rug. Put a grille on the airbrick then put the rug in the bin.
