would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

It isn't sudden, so stop being so obtuse.

Edited

What is obtuse is believing that somehow the brain has been put in the wrong body and that body must be mutilised by surgery and wrong sex hormones to 'fix' it.

I'm 60 and have a live and let live attitude, so please don't get mad but I genuinely am confused by alot of the newer titles that have arrived on the scene. So I've read the ops statement and I actually don't really understand it. What is a non transphobic lesbian ?? I live rurally and my own life experience of trans is non existent so I'm not trying to a smart ass or insulting, just bear with me.

Iwishihadariver · 05/02/2025 05:37

Oh hello! I'm late to the party as I've got several existential family crises going on (just life, the universe & everything so nothing that can't wait) and thought, I know, I'll visit FWR for some regular unsafe bile and transphobia. As you do.

And I've just spotted posts about dragons and a 22 year-old blind goldfish called Jesus in the first few minutes. Fabulous 👌. I can recommend mumsnet FWR instead of paying for therapy. So good!

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 21:30

Nobody ever wants a beetle!

I do! In particular a Lepidiota Siamensis.
I used to be friends with one called Barrington and id take him surfing

Ottersmith · 05/02/2025 06:26

Mumsnet is an online talk forum with a majority of female contributors. Women don't all have an homogeneous blobby hive mind so you would be as safe as you are on any forum because there will be lots of varied opinions. Women don't all think the same thing. Feminists don't all think the same thing. What are you trying to get out of being on Mumsnet?

Pinkradiolady · 05/02/2025 06:31

"Safe"? As in a non challenging no debate type of space? Bad faith

NecessaryScene · 05/02/2025 06:38

No, on second thoughts, let's not go to Mumsnet.

It is a silly place.

Would you like a quest instead?

RumNotRun · 04/02/2025 23:23

@EmpressaurusKitty that depends on the size of the beetles. They may be huge fire breathing dragon beetles. We need Boiled's AI picture skills 😞

Shit, I hadn’t thought of that.

CurlewKate · 05/02/2025 06:57

@YellowRoom "What makes an average octopus into a magnificent octopus?"

It lives in a big turnip in the country....

SernieBanders · 05/02/2025 07:05

rexrabbit · 04/02/2025 21:15

there seems to be a lot of vitriol going around about non het non cis stuff here

Most people don’t believe in the word “cis” and most consider it a slur.

It's difficult tonknow what the original poster meant, but one of the features of gender identity ideology is a post-modern approach to words that means they no longer describe reality but create it. Words, therefore become pretty meaningless without a shared basis in the real world.

Leasbian could mean homosexual women in the sense most people are familiar with, so female people who are attracted to female people.

But it could mean "women" in the gender identity sense of "whoever describes themselves as a woman" being attracted to other such "women". Lesbian therefore being defined by gender identity, not sex.

As for the non-transphobic bit, lesbians were one of the early demographics to speak out against gender identity and trans identifying men, see "the cotton ceiling". However there are lesbian groups who accept men into their dating pool, for whatever reason, if those men describe themselves as "women".

But given the OP was just another plopper I think it was just to he an edgy adolescent.

Hope that's a reasonable starter!

@WillIEverBeOk have you been raped by a trans woman? Men have been transitioning to women for centuries, so yes, trans women are not all perverts and rapists and have been around for a very long time.

Nothing about being “trans” makes someone with a penis LESS likely to sexually assault someone does it?

in fact, if you go by prison statistics, the odds are HIGHER - so you tell me again why women should NOT be concerned about penises in changing rooms?

I came back on to explain about dinosaurs and not dinosaurs but I see that's been done and we've now moved to serious topics. Sorry, OTHER serious topics. How dare I suggest dinosaurs (and all the other saurs) are not serious.

When googling the difference, the American Museum of Natural History says that "For dinosaurs, there is a hole in the hip bones which is circled and labeled “hole”, and a thin line on the arm bone labeled “crest”. For pterosaurs, there is no hole in the hip bones, the same area of which is circled and labeled “no hole” I think it's very useful that dinosaurs came with handy little labels on their skeletons.

But what if a not a dinosaur ❌🦕 identifies as a dinosaur 🦕? It might believe it should have holes in its hip bones or have holes drilled in its hip bones. If holes make dinosaurs then it would be very easy to transition to dinosaur from none dinosaur.

What does that even mean? Dick friendly?

What about dating women who say they're men. Would that be transphobic or non transphobic?

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 05/02/2025 07:49

Transphobic, because you would be invalidating their identities by feeling attracted to them.

Brainworm · 05/02/2025 07:49

Apparently, there are forums about 'trad wives' that are full of misogynistic posts that are degrading to women and reflect views that I would find dehumanising and bigoted.

These views correlate with those who commit femicide- with an average of 2 women being murder a week by men, in this country. Debate rages as to whether forums that propagate misogyny contribute to femicide rates and violence against women and girls, so in that sense, perhaps my safety is compromised as a result of those forums, but it is not increased or reduced by dint of me looking or posting on them.

My sense of self, or my belief in the role I can and should play in society, is not dependent on affirmation from anyone else, let alone posters on 'trad wives' platforms. I find misogyny upsetting and offensive, and I know that if these views took hold they would present a threat to my livelihood and quality of life. I also recognise that in a democratic society, people are free to hold them. It is with this in mind that I decide whether or not to engage with these forums. If I did contribute to them, I would do so in good faith, debating the points raised, seeking to win arguments through logic and reason. I would not join to bemoan how someone with feminist views doesn't feel welcome or safe on the forum.

ERthree · 05/02/2025 07:55

Christ almighty, you are a grown adult with children, it isn't anyone else's job to "validate" you.

BellissimoGecko · 05/02/2025 07:57

MagentaRavioli · 04/02/2025 21:07

No. Once you get an account, fire-breathing dragons will roar at you out of your screen and sharks will swim up the overflow pipe into your sink once you wash your hands.

😀 welcome to mn. Provided you’re okay about people disagreeing with you on some things and agreeing on others, you’ll be fine. No sharks or dragons.

😂😂

Maybe they wouldn't even need the holes drilled. They could just identify as having holes in the hip bones and stick a handy label there.
