would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

Possibly because the feminism board is a cesspit of transphobia. I only ended up here by mistake and I’m pissing off again now. Bye x

Define 'transphobia', @StormingNorman ? Does it mean rape survivors who need female only single sex spaces?

WillIEverBeOk · 05/02/2025 02:06

ThisFluentBiscuit · 04/02/2025 23:03

Stay off the Feminism boards. The pure hate for trans people there will sicken you.

Hate for 'trans people', @ThisFluentBiscuit , or just hate for males being in female only single sex spaces? Do you really think you can take a section of males, re-badge them as 'trans', and expect rape survivors to be happy with these (mostly fully intact) males in our intimate safe single sex spaces?

WillIEverBeOk · 05/02/2025 02:14

ThisFluentBiscuit · 05/02/2025 00:07

I'm saying that the Feminism section - i.e. here - is not a safe space for the OP if she supports trans people.

You can support trans people to have exactly the same rights we all have - no more and no less - without sacrificing female only single sex spaces. Did that thought ever occur to you, @ThisFluentBiscuit ? Because 99.999969% of people on this board do so.

Unless of course you are advocating that trans people should have extra privileges simply because they use the trans label.? Which seems what some trans advocates push for. Rights and privileges that other women (and men) don't have.

HereForTheAnimals · 05/02/2025 02:17

@WillIEverBeOk have you been raped by a trans woman? Men have been transitioning to women for centuries, so yes, trans women are not all perverts and rapists and have been around for a very long time.

You know a transwoman is a male? Right? Or did you genuinely think that you can re-badge males and they cease to exist as males? And no, men have not been 'transitioning to women' (not that that is actually possible) for centuries, what you are describing is transvestites - cross dressers, not transGENDER.

There does seem to be a fair amount of transphobia on Mumsnet, especially in the feminism chat, but as someone from the gay community, I haven't seen any homophobia.

Define 'transphobia'. Does it mean rape survivors who need female only single sex spaces? Or perhaps you may be suffering from femphobia and not realise it.

No, I know a trans woman is a trans woman, and that is nothing like transvestism. Maybe you should look it up.

This is really funny because I'm a feminist, I just don't exclude people who believe they were born in the wrong body.

Given that the medical path to "transition" has not existed for centuries, how did these historic men transition? What made them women and not men?

Was it wearing the stereotypical clothing of women?
Was it adopting the stereotypical or culturally mandated activities and interests of women?
Was it taking a culturally mandated woman's name?

If the culture had not provided stereotypical or socially policied ways to "be" a man or a woman, do you think these men could have "become" women? Is there a way for a man to "be" a woman that does not rest on his adopting the external features of womanhood as his culture constructs it?

You are a feminist yet you believe that men and women's minds are fundamentally different, so different that if a person has a male body and all the privilege that goes with it, but thinks like a woman, that is enough to override all the facts and privileges of his body and make him interchangeable with woman instead? Because our minds are that different to men's minds?

You are most definitely not a feminist if you believe a male can take the piss by posing as a woman and infiltrate our spaces that are DESIGNED to keep all males - however they 'identify', out. A feminist centres females. It is literally in the name. Anyone can 'believe' anything they want. It does not mean material physical reality can be ignored and males can gain extra privileges and rights to invade what isn't theirs. Feminism exists specifically to exclude all males from our spaces and advocacy. You are very confused as to what feminism actually is.

I obviously wasn't around flirts, but, gender bending has been going on for centuries.

My personal experiences aren't the sole source of information that informs my opinions.

I don't believe people should be able to just identify as a woman, and I think this is separate to trans women. I am a steadfast feminist, and I always will be. I don't agree that any man should be able to self-identity as woman for their convenience, but in my experience, that isn't what trans women do.

Yes. A male is a male is a male. I think some need to reacquaint themselves with the Little Red Riding Hood nursery story. A wolf dressed as a sheep (or human) is still a wolf. A male is a male is a male. And males with Autogynephilia are far more dangerous than other males.

Sure, but that's just adopting the cultural constructions of the opposite gender. It's not becoming interchangable with the opposite sex in the way trans people are supposed to be today.

I mean, the fact that you know they existed means they weren't seen as fully the opposite sex, otherwise there'd be nothing in history to flag that they were anything other than bog standard women or men.

Cultures with rigid gender roles often have pressure valves. Some people see that as proof that transgenderism is an innate feature of humanity. I see it as proof that humans don't fit into gender boxes. I think we should focus on getting rid of the boxes rather than just moving people betwen them.

Boiled Beetle, are you still awake? I've been chatting with my 22 yr old blind goldfish; he's called Jesus. His tankmates are Baby Jesus and Big Baby Jesus; they are happy with their lot .
He has disclosed to me that he wishes to identify as a six year old water-dragon with Real Shooting Flames (batteries not included) and X ray vision.

How can a person be born in the wrong body? What happened to the body they were supposed to be born in? Was it given to someone else? There must be a malfunctioning production line somewhere that has suddenly started putting people's brains in the wrong bodies, how else can we explain the sudden rise in people claiming to be trans?

6000% increase over a few years in children being trans. That is what I'd call sudden.
