Birds didn't evolve from pterosaurs. They evolved from dinosaurs.

Pterosaurs were their own thing and have no descendants. And they had fur, not feathers.

Happens to the best of us. I followed the map once to "there be dragons" and it was just a straight drop off the edge. There were a load of lemmings stood there laughing at how all the dragons refused to believe the world is flat and just kept on going. Turns out lemmings are smarter than dragons.
