Horrifying Republican response to Bishop's sermon

These are tweets from Matt Walsh on X about Bishop Marian Budde and her sermon earlier today in Washington, attacking her womanhood and ability in a sexist and ageist tirade. It seems the clarion call has gone out to the rest of the Trump X minions, as they are all tweeting the same sentiments - including Kellie-Jay Keen and Donald Trump Jnr. Rep. Mike Collins całłed for her deportation, although she is American. Do you still support Trump after this?

“A liberal woman over the age of 50 with a lesbian haircut is guaranteed to support the most evil ideas and policies that mankind has ever conceived.”

“Just take one look at this witch and you know everything you need to know about her, even before she starts talking.”

“Of course this grotesque display is coming from a female “priest.” You will only ever hear heresy and inanity from someone whose whole existence is blasphemous.”

And another tweet from Bo Loudon: “🚨BREAKING: A bishop at the National Cathedrol just urged President Trump to protect transgender children and not deport illegal aliens because "they're not criminals."

Pure class from President Trump as he sat through this despicable politicization of the prayer service.”

Speech text:
““In the Name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” Budde stated. “There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families. Some who fear for their lives.

”The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat-packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals. They may not be citizens, or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals.”

Budde asked Trump “to have mercy” on people “in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away and that you help those who are fleeing warzones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here.

“Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land,” she continued. “May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love, and walk humbly with each other and our God.”

Earlier in her message, Budde stressed the importance of unity, of respectfully disagreeing with one another, but also expressed concern over what she called “the culture of contempt” and feared “the loss of equality” for some who lose in political debates.

What a horrible, divisive message this is! 🙄 Personally, I think Budde's message is courageous and beautiful, and clearly deeply Christian at its core.

People without documents do not get into a tax system.

Some may get some taxes taken out. But if they are UNdocumented they are not in the system. That is the whole point.

I think your missing the whole point @AlisonDonut

In the US in particular, some do, and with good reason. It is irresponsible to deny it.

I am sure that they do. But in what way did the bishop mean that they feared for their lives more than other groups so that they should be especially mentioned in an inauguration service?

At the end of the day a country of 300 million people have made their decision democratically on a president. Obviously some do not like his policies but for a woman of the cloth to so publically politicise a speech to embarrass a sitting democratically elected leader was wrong. Imagine if Keir Starmer visited a hospital and the CEO in a speech basically called him shit; he or she would lose their job.

but for a woman of the cloth to so publically politicise a speech to embarrass a sitting democratically elected leader was wrong.

When the fuck have people of the cloth started to hold their tongue against what they see is wrong ??

When since has caring for children and people been political for fucks sake? She didn't rant about tariffs or interest rates , she talked about PEOPLE.

Treaclewell · 22/01/2025 09:10

Old Testament prophets didn't hold back from criticising kings. It's part of the job. Speaking truth to power.

NotBadConsidering · 22/01/2025 09:13

I have no problem with her speaking to power if it was accurate. Speaking of “transgender children” fearing for their lives because of an executive order that establishes biological reality isn’t that. I bet she hasn’t even read it.

Winterwonders24 · 22/01/2025 07:56

Lying to confused children about reality is not compassionate either.

When did that bishop lie to children? What exactly did she say that makes you think she should have been called a witch?

MalagaNights · 22/01/2025 09:21

I'm a Christian.
I thought her sermon was dangerous nonsense.

Children have been terribly horribly harmed by gender ideology both physically and psychologically, it is not an ideology any Church should be supporting.

To suggest children's lives are now in danger because this is being undone, is a lie, a dangerous insidious lie that harms children.

And nobody is claiming all immigrants are illegal so she's making stupid pious declarations to pander to fear again. Only illegal immigrants are illegal and they are the ones Trump and his voters are concerned about.

In fact i think the mask slips with Democrats frequently on this point: they are they ones who can't seem to understand there is a difference between legal and illegal immigration, almost as if they think all 'foreigners' are the same...??

This type of 'Christianity' which has simplified the Christian message to a #BeKind performance for non Christians, It's both pointless and self destructive. They are the Church of Woke because they think this is where The Righteousness now resides.
They should care less about appearing Righteous and think more carefully about what is right.

Matt Walsh is a Catholic anti feminist who doesn't think women should be priests. If you know that and keep following him to be outraged that some people think that, well, I presume you're enjoying yourself.

IWantthatPen · 22/01/2025 09:22

I found the tone of the bishop quite nauseating. I imagine Fox Fisher is already doing one of their crap drawings of them to add to their list of trans saints. I congratulate them for having balls of steel though - to stand up there and be Jesus-like in a country where everybody’s own version of Jesus plays far too big a part in their politics . Great opportunity, well taken.

I just wish she’d have mentioned the terrified plastic-surgeons and share-holders of drug companies who must be quaking in their condos as they see their lucrative transition business disappearing. How scared must they be?

Matt Walsh is an odious man. Trump is a showman in charge of a circus.

But I’m glad the brakes are being applied to the runaway train that decided to deny women the right to be defined. That allowed self-harming teenagers the opportunity to pay for someone else to join in and profit from their adolescent self-loathing.

I’m in no way deluded that women still have a fucking enormous fight on many fronts - but at least we can fight for our rights from a basis of sanity - where we all know exactly what we mean when we say ‘I am a woman’. And it’s on that basis that I will continue to fight for fair-play, abortion-rights, better maternity care etc..

Tekbrobillionaire · 22/01/2025 09:23

The moment she said “transgender children” was when I couldn’t take anything else seriously. Wasn’t it also offensive of her to paint a picture of immigrants as being toilet cleaners and chicken factory workers?

A missed opportunity to be unifying and the Bishop blew it. This divisive leftist way of thinking lost support for the Democrats in the first place. It’s clearly going to take them and this Bishop some time to figure out why they lost if they even bother to try.

Exactly. Religious leaders absolutely should be standing up to Trump, but through reasoned arguments, not the same old fake bollocks that plagues US political discourse today, and which even Trumpist morons can see through when it comes from the liberal side.

Same with immigration. If the American left wants unrestricted immigration, they could say so. A vague "let's be nice to immigrants" that doesn't acknowledge that there are actually laws about immigration and people are actually breaking the laws just makes you look soft on crime. (And creates the perverse situation where people who don't care about laws enter the country in droves whereas most law-abiding ones, who would undoubtedly make better immigrants, are shut out.)

But the misogynistic attacks are awful: much worse than anything she said.

Ah, she like a prophet who is here to convey that unless we tell children there are 200 genders ,and you can change sex, and that if you get extensive cosmetic surgery you can become your true authentic self.

That's what God wants for you kids, and anyone who tells you this is a dangerous lie is trying to kill you and you must hate them.

This new Christianity is so Good. These new prophets so Righteous with their Truth to Power.

OP, I don't support Trump. I think he is a dangerous demagogue, bordering on the fascist.

I do, however, support this particular executive order, which I think is a very clear, unambiguous statement of scientific facts. After many years in which Democrats have stamped all over scientific reality in favour of a deranged form of postmodernist anti-truth ideology, it is very welcome.

I'm sorry if you find this hard to grasp.

Is it 😂?

It's the one that thinks children shouldn't be confused and mutilated and that it's reasonable for a country to decide who gets to come in and live there.

Which sort do you practice?

It's statements like this that I find irritating.

I, too, the ideas behind the EO to be just fine.

The person/ideology that has pre-empted it? No. It's a base, populist appeal. It leads to statements like your "After many years in which Democrats have stamped all over scientific reality in favour of a deranged form of postmodernist anti-truth ideology, it is very welcome". Really?

I think they are bothered by the fact that there are some people on twitter who are religious anti feminist provocateurs.

You'd have thought the fact that Catholics don't support women priests shouldn't be news? But I guess every day is a school day for some people.

Casual harshness towards a brave woman. "I have no problem with her speaking to power if it was accurate. I said I'm not religious. And if you are truly a Christian, and your posts above reflect that, then I'm quite happy about my status.

Why would God want your kids to have extensive cosmetic surgery? Have you thought this through?
