Sadiq Khan either really doesn’t know which makes him incompetent or is pretending not to know which makes him complicit.

Anyone who thinks that Susan Hall and Sadiq Khan are not both spinning this are being disingenuous . They both appear to be goading each other. It's, at best, not very edifying.

I’m laughing at you lot for falling for Elon Musk’s racist word vomit and not having the brain cells to not spread racist claptrap online.

Grow up. The fact that you are trying to close down this issue being discussed by using the predictable ‘racist’ tripe, shows you’re either uneducated or unbothered by what’s going on. Grooming gangs in Rotherham are predominantly made up of Pakistani men - fact.

It was a valid question to ask the London Police & Crime Commissioner.

tobee · 16/01/2025 23:46

I didn't say it wasn't a valid question @Workisntworking. That doesn't tell the whole story from either of them. Susan Hall is not an adroit politician to ask these questions. It's too easy for Khan to get around the issue.

And it’s still a problem that Khan is either clueless or pretending not to know something he actually knows. Who asked the question or how the question was asked doesn’t really matter. In the end, all he’s doing is protecting the grooming gangs at the expense of their victims.

I agree. It's irrelevant who asked and what you think their motives are. It could be Laurence Fox or Nigel Farage. Have the fucking decency to respond in a serious way to such a sensitive question about the abuse of young women and girls in your area.

tobee · 17/01/2025 00:00

Well it's true that if Hall was a better politician she should've been able to wipe the floor with Khan. She would have been able to beat him in the mayoral election for a kick off.

I mean isn't that what being an elected politician comes down to?

You know what shutting down the issue is? Making it into an excuse for peddling racism by demonising British-Pakistani men as predators of white girls as posters on this thread have done repeatedly despite other posters apparently being blind to it.

That’s not caring about all the victims, and that’s certainly not caring about catching over 75% of the gangs operating, or 98% of sex offenders for that matter. Demonising 2% of perpetrators that are not at all disportionate compared to the overall population isn’t going to stop grooming gangs.

We can talk about grooming gangs but if you’re going be to racist about it, you’re going to get pulled up on it. I’m not ashamed for doing that.

“The grooming gang phenomenon in the UK is an issue that demands a nuanced and evidence-based approach. While high-profile cases have often been associated with South Asian men, the broader data suggests that the majority of offenders are white. It is crucial to avoid racial stereotypes and focus on the systemic failures that have allowed child sexual exploitation to persist. Improving data collection, allocating resources effectively, and engaging with communities will go a long way towards a safer future for all children. The focus must remain on the protection of all children, regardless of ethnicity, from exploitation by any perpetrator, while also challenging the anti-Muslim racism that fuels the false idea of disproportionate crime being committed by Muslim men.” https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/religionglobalsociety/2025/01/the-grooming-gang-debate-navigating-race-politics-and-justice-in-the-uk/

The grooming gang debate: Navigating race, politics, and justice in the UK

Amidst recurring waves of public discourse on grooming gangs in the UK, Professor Tahir Abbas examines the construction of the problem, the role of ethnicity, the impact of media and political biases, and the systemic failures that have allowed CSE to...

But that's why it's such a difficult situation. I certainly don't think Hall is asking in good faith. Or Elon Musk talking about it either.

People don't want to look at the statistics and it's easier to pretend that it's "all Pakistani men" or that it's none at all, because if you suggest it's any Pakistani men, even a tiny percentage, then you're racist.

PiggyPigalle · 17/01/2025 00:10

It was being discussed yet again today and I noticed how often it being turned around by saying there are far more white grooming gangs.
Makes no difference to me or anyone else I bet, if that's true then find and prosecute them.
That wouldn't negate however the fact of it being covered up by those very high in authority. Some in the police have been moved and others gone abroad.

What a dreadful country we are for some young people. If we're not conning them into changing sex, we're covering up not only rape but torture in some cases.

People are enjoying the fact we live in a divided society and populists and bad actors flourish. Rational and reasoned debate is shut down. Nobody trusts anyone.

And you're going to get pulled up for repeatedly lamely attempting to deflect from the issue because you're uninformed and don't approve of people talking about it. I'm not ashamed of that, either.

No sacred castes.

Exactly. Nobody is hoping that gangs of white men raping little girls get protected by the police, social workers, politicians, etc.. I want them all in prison. Every last one of them, and every last one of their enablers too.

In what way is @SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice uniformed?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/01/2025 00:22

It's not racist to acknowledge that these organised gangs of brutal, violent rapist men had underlying common features, and some of them had elements of race/culture.

This is going to be discussed, until our lame government does something about it to bring some kind of justice to the many girls and young women who have fallen victim to these gangs. So many men have got away with it. So many people in positions of power have failed these girls.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/01/2025 00:24

Because apparently this person thinks it's only an issue because Elon Musk mentioned it @tobee

We've been discussing it on this board for years, and yes people frothed about the far right narrative then as well.

Yes and I've been here for years and seen it discussed. That's why I'm here now.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/01/2025 00:27

I don't believe it's helpful to pretend that there isn't an issue with this pattern of crime.

tobee · 17/01/2025 00:32

Me neither.

The fact that Trump and the right (whoever you deem that to be) have jumped on the bandwagon with trans issues (and the rest) has not been a help to the issue imo. It's another piece of ammunition to the pro TRA agenda.

And those on the left have jumped on the bandwagon for the other side too. We've seen that all too clearly with leftist politicians hitching themselves to the twaw/no debate/inclusive/Stonewall etc bullshit of course.

iwasntexpectingthatoops · 17/01/2025 00:32

I agree with you there though. I think social media has a lot to answer for. Everything is fake and attention seeking.

Almost always, the best way to disarm someone making asking a question or making a comment that is not in good faith, is to treat it seriously as a good faith comment anyway.

It often reveals to all that the person is in bad faith, and always shows the person responding in a good light.

If they don't do it, they are trying to hide something or has their own bad faith agenda. So the question is, what? It wouldn't have harmed SK's position at all to give a completely serious answer. So what's he playing at?
