How many MNers will join me in applying for a GRC??

QueenDoria · 29/12/2024 23:40

having read on another thread that it only costs £5 to apply for a GRC, how many MNers will join me in applying to ‘become’ a man?
one’s legal status as a mother will not change, and I’m sure we’ll all see a 20% uplift in our wages…
We might get turned down if the panel gets an inkling we might be insincere, but, for the sake of a fiver, we could swamp the application process…

Yes you'd be a lesbian. Welcome to the modern world.

But without the orgasms. Just the gay man in a dress. Perfectly fine of course, and who cares, if only he didn’t insist on being your wife and you his.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/12/2024 15:55

Sorry didn't mean to put my own post in italics!

QueenDoria · 31/12/2024 16:02

#Being kind I’d a wonderful thing, but being questioning is harder.
i Hope I treat all individuals with civility but weak legislation needs challenging.
isla Bryson wasn’t very kind…

Is not I’d

I’m going to do it. I need to renew my passport asap so I need to get my GRC first.
I‘m very forthright, tell women how to do things I’ve no experience of, except when I have a cold- then I have to go to bed for a fortnight minimum. I’m basically a man already even without the certificate.

QueenDoria · 31/12/2024 16:17

solopanda · 31/12/2024 15:32

Hang on. So my husband could get one and then I'd be married to a woman on my marriage certificate even though when I got married he was a man?

That seems to be the case…
Or, if you have given birth to a son or daughter (and they are now 18) they could change their birth certificate… so you didn’t actually have a son/daughter…

Also, when I’m a man, can I now, uninitiated, call out “Cheer up live it might never happen” to youngd women between the ages of say, 16 and 30 when they dare to walk down a street without a smile on their face??

OP posts:
QueenDoria · 31/12/2024 16:21

Of course I’ll ignore those over 30…

You don't need a grc to get a wrong sex passport so you could get the passport first and then use that as evidence when applying for the grc

Sasskitty · 31/12/2024 16:33

I wonder. If I had dual nationality … and had eg. a Spanish passport and a British passport. Could I legally have one as a man and one as a woman? So exciting.

To get a wrong sex passport you need one of three things, and one is "a letter from your doctor or medical consultant confirming your change of gender is likely to be permanent" - source
https://www.gov.uk/changing-passport-information/gender

You can get a letter from GenderGP - price list here
https://www.gendergp.com/gender-marker/

If you want to change your name you'll need evidence of that, but you don't have to change it.

MaggieBsBoat · 31/12/2024 17:28

Joking aside I’m going to.
I’m wondering if the border patrol will stop me.

Also I just told my DH and he told me he’d get a divorce!!!! How very upsetting. Outrageous. How #notkind! He doesn’t accept my true manly self!

I need to go and start an AIBU!

southbiscay · 31/12/2024 17:35

It's bloody insane that you can have a single online "consultation" with a doctor via Gender GP for £55 and they will send you a letter that the passport office will accept as evidence and will use to change the sex marker on your passport.

While I think GRCs are total nonsense at least there are some hurdles to getting one and they are backed by (an admittedly ludicrous) law. Changing a passport on the basis of a GRC is one thing, changing it on the back of a purchased letter from a questionable organisation is another thing entirely.

Let's be honest, Gender GP is not going to say no. It's a money spinner for them and if I say I am trans they are not going to argue. To do that would be transphobic and they are all-in on the koolaid.

An MP really should be championing the undoing of this scandalous position. I doubt much can be done about the changes already permitted but it needs to stop.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/12/2024 17:37

The passport/driving licence without a GRC loophole absolutely needs to be closed.

You don't even need this if you use the "crossdresser" route. It's a letter of self declaration.

ArabellaScott · 31/12/2024 17:43

'Crossdressers

We can only issue a passport if it is established the customer is using their new identity for all purposes. You, the examiner, must not issue a passport in a name or gender a customer uses for some but not all purposes.
If the customer cannot provide medical evidence, they must make a statement confirming they permanently use the preferred identity. They must also have a referee confirm their new identity and send us evidence if they have changed their name (see Names – evidence to change a name).
You must scan the customers signed statement that confirms they use the preferred identity on the application (see gender recognition: scanning supporting documents).'

ArabellaScott · 31/12/2024 17:43

Can one cross-dress back and forth? Can one do this repeatedly?

If one changed one's name each time?

Birth date might not make much difference - around 1,800 people born in the UK have the same birth date.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/12/2024 17:52

It's not very official so I doubt there's all that much scrutiny of which "purposes" your new woman identity is used for.

Currently you would have the right to decide whether you are happy with that or would prefer to end the marriage before the GRC is issued.

Trans rights activists are campaigning for spouses to lose that “exit clause” right and for the trans person to have the right to retrospectively change the sexual orientation of the marriage and alter the marriage certificate without the consent of their spouse.

Seriously??? So one party can change a contract and it still be valid?

Not at the moment.

But, yes, that’s what they are campaigning for. And, as part of that campaign, they describe the marriage exit clause as a “veto” on them obtaining a GRC - to make themselves sound like the hard done by victims of their big ol’ meanie wives.

Their excuse is: well you can just get a divorce afterwards if you’re that bothered.

Oh god. Tell me you're not being serious! 😂😂😂

HarpQuartet · 31/12/2024 19:40

Does anyone know what happens in the event that a marriage ends as a result of one person wanting a GRC and - as a result of this - their spouse not wanting to be married to them any more? I'm wondering if it's different from (cheaper than? Easier than?) getting a divorce.

Idly curiosity only - just wondering if it could be a quick way to (de factor) get a divorce.
