How many MNers will join me in applying for a GRC??

QueenDoria · 29/12/2024 23:40

having read on another thread that it only costs £5 to apply for a GRC, how many MNers will join me in applying to ‘become’ a man?
one’s legal status as a mother will not change, and I’m sure we’ll all see a 20% uplift in our wages…
We might get turned down if the panel gets an inkling we might be insincere, but, for the sake of a fiver, we could swamp the application process…

Went to a public / council leisure centre for the first time in ages, last week. Horrified (yet unsurprised) to find that the changing rooms and showers were only Mixed. No single sex facilities at all. 😑🤬

My local leisure centre has done this too. It used to be male and female, now it's a mixed sex changing village. No option of single sex at all.

And they've done away with almost all the showers! I think there are 4 shower cubicles in the entire changing area.

I reported this thread to them so they are aware fraudulent applications may be made.

oh no you don't. If we say we're trans, you have to accept it.

We didn't make that rule.

(can i join in: I have all the power tools, wear jeans and Docs almost exclusively, i love rare steak, pizza and beer and i have a season ticket to my local [men's, natch] footy team. I also love dinosaurs and i fart a lot)

Ractify · 31/12/2024 04:31

Here, we can change our gender (birth certificate and all) only once per 12 months. Isn’t that discriminatory against “gender-fluid” people? I may have to sue… Here’s hoping they don’t get tipped off. 🍎🍏

Rafting2022 · 31/12/2024 04:58

So for a fiver I can henceforth put in a mediocre performance at work and get promoted through the ranks in double quick time?

Bixaweet · 31/12/2024 05:11

This is a perfect idea. Make it happen.

NotBadConsidering · 31/12/2024 05:23

I can’t believe Chris wants to add (gasp) an extra layer of gatekeeping to the gender reassignment process. Is Chris trying to suggest that people with nefarious goals might go to the (small) lengths required to get a GRC? How transphobic!

southbiscay · 31/12/2024 07:53

"Unfortunately that could mean extra difficulties and delays for trans people, but perhaps that was the aim of this thread?"

But, ChrisTinApple, surely if a doc has signed off on a diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria, then that person is a True Trans? Or are you saying that doctors can be hoodwinked? Surely not?
And of course if you have such a letter from your doc, then His Majesty's Passport Office will happily send you a passport with the wrong sex marker on it. Both of which you can use to apply for a GRC.

I strongly doubt that you have written to the GRC issuing people but I would implore you to do so and point out how in fact it is completely impossible to have ANY degree of certainly that ANY application is genuine. And that scrutiny must be stepped up.

Because if you are saying that us make-up free women with power tools and short hair are not truly trans, then how can one make a case for the make-up caked men with fishnet tights and badly fitting wigs? It's a mystery.

southbiscay · 31/12/2024 08:03

Given that in the early years of the 21st Century we have bizarrely arrived at a position where there is now actual sex and legal (certificated) sex, I'm concerned that I am being discriminated against by only belonging to one category. After all people with a GRC can operate in both categories.

Could I apply for a GRC in the female gender to go with my female birth certificate? So I can have a real and a certificated sex. If not, why not? Granted, I'd have to hide my power tools at the back of the workshop and get some cheap slap from Superdrug.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 31/12/2024 08:38

"Unfortunately that could mean extra difficulties and delays for trans people, but perhaps that was the aim of this thread?"

This is so mangled. Let's unpack it. Some random on MN reports MN happenings to the government who then...what? Change their policies and processes because of MN? Come the fuck on.

But if that's how it works now then next stop is Repeal of the GRA and removal of the PC of GR. Oh and no PB trials whatsover as it's totally unethical and we already know the effects are hugely damaging. Report that to the government!

Datun · 31/12/2024 08:51

I presume extra scrutiny will now be given to applicants made after the date of this thread for a short while at least.

I'm going to make a wild guess that you presume wrong. 🤣

I fear Chris holds even worse views than that.

Because requiring a proper medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria - rather than simply taking someone's word for it - is the sin of transmedicalism.

Which is obviously Sick and Wrong and the WSOH because if people say they are trans, they're not just trans they are exactly the same as those born into the sex they wish everyone to pretend they are.

Isn't that the whole argument?

Is Chris saying that some gatekeeping is desirable, then? If so, what kind?

southbiscay · 31/12/2024 09:18

But, but, Chris can't want extra scrutiny and also Self ID (i.e. no scrutiny) in order to get a GRC. I mean, think about it Chris, if your lot successfully got self ID on-demand GRCs, then it wouldn't just be a load of Mumsnetters messing with the system.

Going by your original arguments on this thread you should be campaigning to make it really hard to get a GRC. Demanding that some real commitment was demonstrated so a bunch of uppity women, bored with mince pies and plastic Christmas tat, couldn't thwart the system

B0RING · 30/12/2024 13:35

Genuine question - I was adopted in the UK so I don’t have a full birth certificate, I have a different doc entitled “ extract from the adopted children’s register “.

This has my name etc and my adoptive parents names, in a similar format to a BC.

I have a short form certificate like everyone else ( just my name, no parents, doesn’t mention adoption ) but it can’t be used for everything .

This means that every time I have to use a “ birth certificate “ to prove my identity ( starting a new job , applying for a passport, DBS, getting married or CP ) I have to disclosed that I’m adopted. Of course, this breaches my confidentiality and sadly we don’t have a special department who deals with our applications unlike other special people who deserve privacy.

Can I apply for a GRC and a get a regular birth certificate ? Or will it disclose that I’m adopted?

How can the fact that I changed gender and name at the age of 40 be worthy of privacy but the fact that I was adopted 39 years ago be something that I have to disclose ?

Me too.
Perhaps we should find out together...

You know not caring if your nasty behaviour upsets other people isn't something to be proud of or roll your eyes at. That's what bullies do. And this thread reads like a hand of bullies in a playground mocking someone they don't like.

southbiscay · 31/12/2024 10:50

Why is it nasty Ava? The vast majority of women on here would appear to understand that:
a) it is not possible to change sex;
b) a diagnosis of gender dysphoria relies on sexist stereotypes, and, as a result:
c) people should not be able to obtain a piece of paper from the Government stating that for all purposes (apart from from inheriting a feudal title or something) they are effectively members of the opposite sex.

When you look at the matter in the cold light of day it is ridiculous. And ridiculous things attract ridicule.

Furthermore, the only person on this thread who is pushing back has provided incoherent and contradictory arguments. Rather than just calling the thread nasty, please, please advance arguments in favour of the GRA and GRCs. I have been in the gender wars for 11 years but I am STILL open to hearing arguments that mean I can forget all about it and get on with my life. Until then I will keep fighting for the sex based rights of women. Over to you.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 31/12/2024 10:53

Ah I see the tone police have arrived.

The 'lighthearted comments' above are actually making important points about GRCs and self ID and how unworkable the whole system is and proposed changes are.

It would be great to finally get answers to some of the burning questions posed by PP. Maybe today's the day?

Does it now. Oh well.

Emotional blackmail isn't going to fly here on FWR, thanks for your thoughts though.

southbiscay · 31/12/2024 10:55

Ava - people are mocking the system, not the individuals. I have nothing but sympathy for young people who have been sold the lie that they can be the opposite sex. (To be fair I have no sympathy for middle aged men who see transgenderism and the GRA as a means to flaunt their fetish in public and access women's spaces, however.)

The thread is mocking a nonsensical process and concept, not mocking a person. There's a difference.

I'd love it if someone could make it make sense.

Ava, the trans umbrella is huge and includes a range of people with different preferences and persuasions. Ill- thought out legislation creates loopholes that puts women and children at risk and it's not nasty to point that out and discuss it.

Oh Angel. Nasty.

Nasty is adults campaigning

  • for children’s bodies to be mutilated
  • for women’s and children’s spaces to be open house for all men
  • for little girls to shower and go to the toilet in front of potentially predatory men
  • for men to walk around a now mixed changing room with their dick hanging out.
  • for men to compete in women’s sport

And so on, the list is endless but this is a start.
