Gendered vocabulary should be removed from pregnancy care, suggests Labour MP

Some of the comments from the thread:

Most of the comments seem to be 'Nope' and 'politicians are lunatics', which is encouraging.

My sympathy for transmen who don't consider themselves women, and might miss out on cervical screenings etc, is close to zero. You put yourself in this situation; deal with it.

On a lighter note, it is refreshing to find women being discussed on International Mens Day!

He's off his rocker. I was thinking about this earlier actually. Someone who I used to know has decided she's a bloke. Doesn't matter what she does, she'll never be a bloke. Then I was thinking of the other women who decide they're blokes, but then go and do the most female thing of having a baby! The mind boggles.

It shows how political parties are so far removed from the electorate that a guy like that could ever be nominated as a potential MP. Sadly.

Same. I know it's often a trauma response with women (as distinct from paraphilias with men) but my sympathy cuts out completely when they start harming other women with their lies and demands.

I started using sexed language some years ago when the TRAs started the mantras of TWAW and TMAM. So, Transmen are female (rather than women), Transwomen are male (rather than men). Like many others, I thought that would drive home the material reality and immutability of sexed bodies. But then the TRAs started claiming that they literally changed sex, and became the other sex. But also claimed that sex doesn’t exist and males could be lesbians, dragged DSD people unwillingly into the trans umbrella, etc. And were given mainstream media platforms to reiterate these ‘facts’ constantly, which emboldened the misogynist beardos and their handmaidens. My BP spiked when I just saw the other day, that Meryl Streep’s screenlab funding to help develop screenplays by women writers over 40 has been expanded to include ‘non-binary’ people. In other words, males (who are so terribly underrepresented in Hollywood 🙄)! Sorry, just needing to vent.

I know it's not your main point, Grimgrump, but "woman" is not gendered language, either.
It's sexed language, just more specific than "female".

But yeah, the land grabbing of language by TAs did cause many people to rethink.

Yes, I agree, and didn’t mean to imply that man and woman were gendered language. As you say, it was when they started to be colonised that I changed to more generic sexed terms to be more pointed about biology. Only to find those being eroded as well.
