The quoted comments from the congresswoman are brilliant

First trans member lawmaker blasts GOP after bill blocks bathroom use

A trans war has broken out on Capitol Hill after a Republican lawmaker proposed a measure to block transgender women from using biological women's restrooms in the U.S. Capitol.

I will say this... Mace's actions will likely backfire and push more people away from gender critical viewpoints because of a simple truth that has born out for decades: The American population tends to get more progressive under republican governments and more conservative under democratic governments.

They shift in opposition of the ruling party. This is also shown in declining church attendance during republican presidential terms.

Yes, but the TRA movement is dying because it’s based on a lie. Nothing to do with being progressive or not.

I disagree and this is bigger than just the US. New Zealand has just announced they are stopping puberty blockers. These public conversations are long overdue and I'm all here for it.

Feeling the need to go back to Katie Dolatowski here!

MoJ statistics suggest that transwomen pose at least as much of a threat to women as other men

Gosh then it is very odd that Mace would make statements about trans women in women's bathrooms but not cis men openly making rape threats!

I wonder what the difference could possibly be?

Perhaps because she doesn't actually care about women's safety at all.

Given her voting record and her supporting a president who has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman, I would sayyyyyy that's probably it.

@Snowypeaks

If you engaged with the actual questions that have been put to you, posters wouldn't have to amuse themselves in other ways.

Why are you opposed to the provision of single sex toilets for women?

And incidentally, did you notice that statement by Rep Zooey Zephyr quoted upthread?

I'm not on MN constantly, so I don't always see questions as they're posted.

I'm actually not opposed to single-sex toilets. What I am opposed to is political grandstanding and bigotry for no good reason except cruelty.

I did see Rep. Zephyr's statement, yes. I think it's unnecessarily inflammatory and unhelpful.

Thanks for replying.

I agree. Does that mean that you accept that there is a good reason for this ruling - that some male people make a point of using women's facilities?

So if you don't oppose single sex toilets for women, then what is all this about? You have failed to demonstrate bigotry - grandstanding, or bringing forward a bill for political purposes is not bigotry. Can you show me, with reference to the dictionary definition (either Collins or Merriam-Webster is fine, I don't know if you're British or American), why the sponsorship of a bill to ensure that women's toilets are for women only why NM is being bigoted - and cruel, as you say now.

Please allow yourself to entertain the possibility that this measure is about women, and women's needs. There are already mixed-sex toilets in the building. Each representative has a private toilet.

This, exactly. It's unsustainable, because it's nonsense and can only go so far.

There's no such thing as "cis". There are only female women and girls, and male men and boys. "Cis" is activist nonsense.

NZ has a conservative government now, but don't make the mistake of conflating the legislation a conservative gov passes with the mood of the populace.

You'll do anything to avoid commenting on her absolute silence in regards to republican men chanting "your body, my choice."

Why is it down to her? You're just trying to avoid confronting the issue.

"The populace" as a whole generally isn't in favour of gender identity ideology. Not in the U.K. or US, and I imagine not in NZ either.

Whataboutery.

The subject is single sex toilets in the Capitol building.
You yourself are happy to put girls and women at risk from rape and SA in mixed sex toilets. You think the ruling about single sex toilets is bad because it means that male people will not get what they want. Actions speak louder than words and NM has acted to help protect women and girls.

Has she ever made a comment about how it was wrong of Mr. Trump to go into the change rooms of his beauty pageant where there were naked young women dressing for the competition?

Or that it was wrong of him to go into the ladies' change rooms at a department store and assault a woman?

No. Because she doesn't care about women's spaces or women's safety.

See my previous comment about single sex spaces that the leader of her party has gone into...

Crickets from Ms. Mace.

Yes, this is the heart of the matter, and the social media tantrums of these males and their supporters tells you everything you need to know.

WinterCrow · 21/11/2024 11:45

I think that the psephology is showing us that as soon as populace is given (a) the relevant information, and (b) a vote, gender ideology is clearly very unpopular.

No, I think it's bad because it was only done to score points, since she has failed to comment about any previous incursions on women's spaces by her own leader, nor has she used any opportunity she has had to enshrine medical care access for women and girls. Her voting record says it all.

lcakethereforeIam · 21/11/2024 11:48

Why do I have to believe Mace is a good person to be glad she's protecting single sex spaces for men and women? But for all I know if I met her we'd fight like two cats in a sack.

For that matter, McBride might be lovely on most things. He's wrong on men, including him, in women only spaces. Otherwise, he and I might get on like a house on fire.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2024 11:48

Exactly @WinterCrow and the denialists can whatabout as much as they like. In the swing states Trump's trans advert was persuasive, because no one is buying the idea that a male can decide to become a woman.

Pink, it’s been very entertaining, but your failure to stay on topic, insistence focusing on the person not the process (I really don’t care why Mace doing it, or whether she’s a lovely person or not) and your willingness to state blatant untruths have, strangely failed to convince me

In fact, I now think it’s a really good bill, not only in response to McBride, but also to members of the public who like to declare their intention to invade women’s spaces. I hope this provides the lead for lots of people to take the same approach with other public buildings. Who knows, maybe we’ll be able to get away from the situation where:

-a woman raped in hospital can be gaslit because “there are no men on women’s wards”,
-where women trying to heal from rape trauma can be used as resources by men (because….?)
-and where women like the female volleyball players at St Jose are effectively told their scholarship depends on their willingness to lie about the sex of their team mate, turn a blind eye when he injures other women, and get their kit off in the women’s locker room

You’re not defending women’s rights - but you know that right?!

Oooodie · 21/11/2024 11:53

highame · 19/11/2024 09:27

Joe Biden wrote the forward to McBride's 2018 memoir. His administration has tried to expand transgender rights in schools and federal health care programs but those proposals have faced legal challenges from conservatives.

Why are those who object to males using female facilities always labelled conservative? Maybe it's different in the US but I believe the majority of the US ask for fairness for women and therefore will be a mix of political views?

It’s the rigid Dem checklist of what a person MUST believe and vocally support.

It’s how they lost the election.

Dems are like a cult - with the women - threatening to shave their heads, pull out hair, move abroad & the one who said would shoot anyone deporting illegal migrants.

Weirdly they are very Binary - their way or extreme tantrum behavior like a toddler.

I don’t want a man in the changing rooms or lockerrooms near my daughters, or me. Or my child’s roommate at college. Not joining my mommy and me breastfeeding group, nor in my menopause support group.

I don't know whether NM has said anything, or what her opinion is - you should ask her. And McBride, and all the other representatives while you are at it.

Obviously I think it's very wrong, but I'm curious to know what's your objection to Trump going into the women's changing room, given that you think male people should be allowed in women's single sex spaces?

Trump, McBride, Zooey Zephyr and ZZ's partner are all male and therefore will all be excluded from women's facilities in the Capitol, along with all the other male people, thanks to NM's bill which has now passed.

Cailleach1 · 21/11/2024 11:56

“Or that it was wrong of him to go into the ladies' change rooms at a department store and assault a woman?“

Yet you want every man to be given access without question, in toilets and changing rooms, refuges etc. everywhere. Cheerleading the carte blanche for opportunists, despite the professed outrage at women being assaulted in a department store. Only the brainwashed, gullible, and/ or credulous are buying the pretence that people can change their sex.

Thank goodness someone is stopping that farce.

That's a lot of words to stay silent about him assaulting a woman in a change room.

WinterCrow · 21/11/2024 12:00

Yup, when voters start seeing the knock-on effects clearly - seeing men and boys cheating in sport, for example, and TRAs shouting loudly that it's bigotry and cruelty to make them race/swim/play in their own male leagues - then the minute people get to vote for someone who'll reverse it, they frequently do.

And that's why the USA has ended up with fucking Trump again. This is a failing of the 'progressive' left, and it's only going to get worse now that parents are au fait with the gobshite being taught in schools.

Anyone who can do anything to turn the gender ideology supertanker around is going to find majority agreement on that issue.
