A trustee and PR director of Britain’s oldest breastfeeding charity has resigned after it introduced an inclusivity policy that allowed men to attend support groups.

Absolutely bonkers. Sorry but my need to have support by women who have breastfed to help me when breastfeeding trumps any man who wants to attend a meeting. Unless I’m mistaken biologically this is a pretty easy one. Milk either comes out of your breast or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t you can’t come (yes obviously this doesn’t include those going to try breastfeeding and haven’t yet but physically can).

It's not just the trans situation, some women wanted their male partners with them - I've noticed that with other support groups too, and I do think that sometimes having your partner with you means you don't socialise with other women as effectively

Similar to the women who want their partners staying overnight with them in maternity units. There are sometimes threads bemoaning this on AIBU because of the men's behaviour and other posters who say that they absolutely need their partners there.
Both of these are intrusive for some women although their preferences are neither consulted nor considered.

i think this is a really stupid move but my question is what is the likelihood of a male wanting to breastfeed in the Uk.

i can not imagine this will be a reality please correct me if i am wrong.

No no... This happened to me.

Instead the group session turned into a very short 1:1 session as all the women were uncomfortable. The breastfeeding consultant of course realised this and gave everyone short sessions in a small room that was not fit for purpose.

ScanaDully · 11/11/2024 21:56

This is what my women's group did. Man joined, organiser wanted to be "inclusive".

We all had each others numbers, so we all left that group and reconvened via WhatsApp elsewhere.

14 is us left, leaving the organiser, the man, and organisers friend in the old group.

It's horrible watching all the groups that were painstakingly built by women being destroyed from the inside because men insist they have to be included.

Good for both the trustee and the founder, though.

NB: I have no insight into what the preferences of TM who BF would be.

Somebody posted this about Schelling Fences recently. I feel that breastfeeding support groups are there for women who breastfeed. It's not a support group for those who wish to LARP it.

Slippery slopes legitimately exist wherever a policy not only affects the world directly, but affects people's willingness or ability to oppose future policies. Slippery slopes can sometimes be avoided by establishing a "Schelling fence" - a Schelling point that the various interest groups involved - or yourself across different values and times - make a credible precommitment to defend.

Let’s face it. A particular kind of man just cannot stand women having something they don’t. Whatever that might be and however crazy and fetish generating it is for them.

SquirrelSoShiny · 11/11/2024 22:06

More Black Mirror shit. I commend her for leaving and I hope more women do what @ScanaDully and group did. But yes it IS sad that handmaidens and fools are handing over the groups that women built. LLL should be absolutely ashamed of their own shortsightedness.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 11/11/2024 22:06

Starts off pandering but then gets going as an article:

"Main resigned on Monday, saying that she refused to help biological men “perform a poor imitation of breastfeeding”, which she said put babies’ safety at risk.

"Her departure came as Marian Tompson, 94, an American and one of the founders of the La Leche League in 1956, quit last week over the decision to admit men.

"Tompson described the organisation as a “travesty” and said that its focus has subtly shifted to include men “who, for whatever reason, want to have the experience of breastfeeding”."

Men who want to invade BF support. What kind of man does that? The kind of man what would interrupt the unique relationship between a mother and her infant, that's who:

"Her letter, sent to LLL leaders, added: “This shift from following the norms of nature, which is the core of mothering through breastfeeding, to indulging the fantasies of adults, is destroying our organisation.”"

Amazing letter ❤️

Men who want to invade BF support. What kind of man does that?

Perverts. See also women's toilets, changing rooms, rape crisis groups, swimming pools...etc

Perverts looking to satisfy a fetish.

Yes but careful you'll be accused of bigotry.

Good for her. Breastfeeding groups should be calling the police when men say they want to feed babies from their nipples, not advising them. Sickening.

ScanaDully · 11/11/2024 23:06

I can't say I particularly care if perverts with breastfeed fetishes think I'm a bigot 😄

Okay womenz i was just hoping beyond hope, that this would not be a thing, need to have no more examples though it is just fucking gross.

Not only are they doing this, but it gets worse. In Australia, women have to be very careful what they say about it too.

WTH Australia? | Mumsnet

For context, nearly all the states and territories in Australia have Self ID. Since women won't 'behave' they're doubling down on persecuting women....

@Helleofabore love you as i do la la la la i cannot bare any info about this

Breastfeeding in Australia. https://www.binary.org.au/another_female_taken_to_court_for_refusing_to_lie_about_males_who_wish_they_were_women

From our LLL branch.

Datun · 12/11/2024 00:58

You'd think, that all places, LLL would be familiar with lactation fetishism.

And you know what, I bet they bloody are. It's the one place that was bound to be targeted by anybody who could get on the inside.

ScanaDully · 11/11/2024 21:45

Ok thank you!

You're most welcome!

XChrome · 12/11/2024 02:39

Good grief.
Why do men want to join breastfeeding support groups? I would say the only reason would be to talk about tits and get horny from it. Fucking gross. They also might demonstrate nursing techniques in the group, allowing the man to look at tits while the women practice the techniques. JFC that is sick.

XChrome · 12/11/2024 02:41

“This shift from following the norms of nature, which is the core of mothering through breastfeeding, to indulging the fantasies of adults, is destroying our organisation.”

Spot on.

I think that's why the trans rights movement is so censorious.
Yes, left wing and progressive activism is prone to purity spirals and group-think.
But the movement needs to make it impossible for women to create women-only groups and spaces and support services.
There can't be a pluralist approach - "Why don't we have support groups that are only for people who identify as women alongside support groups for female people only?"

  • Because everyone knows, if women are given this choice, the gender-based group will have noone in it.
Catsmere · 12/11/2024 03:48

It's like when men-who-claim-to-be-women join women's groups and complain bitterly that there are only other MWCTBW there. Each one wants to be the only one there, imposing his fetishes on unwilling women.

Did the man have a baby?

HermioneWeasley · 12/11/2024 06:02

It’s not about trans inclusion, it’s about male inclusion

nobody would have an issue with a trans identified woman attending a breastfeeding support group

there’s no need to be inclusive of trans identified males because they can’t breastfeed and anyone wanting to attend is by definition a pervert.
