Had a go at training the AI to do a realistic image of an academic magpie marking papers, while a small line of gerbils brings a selection of different chocolate bars to magpie so that she can have them with her cup of tea in the library at the bluestocking pub.

Hmmmmmmm ...... you'd think it would be quite straightforward ... but no.

I see what you mean! Although Tunnocks should definitely launch a line of Tunsocks!

Ooh one last go and it complied! Gah!

Perfect! Although I think we might have acquired some chipmunks?

Yep. 🙄

Tunsocks!

I thought the gerbils were cute, but Boily's even cuter. And she's got tartan wing covers in the first one.

Do androids get cold feet, or are the socks merely a fashion statement?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/11/2024 17:42

That looks cosy, @inkymoose .

@Magpiecomplex I'm just joining in with the non-synthetic lifeforms.

And very stylishly too, Android! Finished my marking. 18,000 words of essays in total, which takes some getting through.

FuzzyPuffling · 24/11/2024 18:00

Well done Magpie! Time for a Tunnocks.

Magpiecomplex · 24/11/2024 18:33

I think one of the chipmunks might have sat on that Tunnocks! Gemini gave me a single sheet of paper when I asked for a pile of marking.

A bowl of Smarties??? Now you're talking!

Does one add milk like one would with cornflakes?

Chocolate milk or cream, I think.

Chocolate milk or cream, I think.

It will never replace the full heart attack but looks better than the 'continental breakfast '.

I don’t know if I want to scream, cry or break things. Why, you ask - because of my f-ing knitting.

I picked up 480 stitches for the border. I followed the instructions - they made no sense, because one row’s instructions was for an odd number of stitches, but having followed the pattern to the word, I had an even number. I go to the errata, and find a suggestion of how to sort it out - but I need to go back to the very beginning of the border - I had done four fecking rows so I had to unpick (very carefully) 1920 stitches. I did that - it took hours - then I started again.

Did it work out this time? Of course it didn’t. This time I only had to unpick 960 stitches, and then I tried a different correction. Did it work - hollow laughter - of course not. I unpicked about 240 stitches and I’m about to try yet another fix.

Pray for me - that I can hold onto that last, tiny shred of sanity! If there was chocolate in the house, I’d be eating it ALL - and bugger my blood sugar.

Bannedontherun · 24/11/2024 20:01

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius Out it down for a day or two..

FuzzyPuffling · 24/11/2024 20:05

Woley, this is probably an excellent example of why knitting is not a relaxing occupation.

Magpiecomplex · 24/11/2024 20:26

Seconding Banned, put it down for a couple of days, ignore it for the first day and then think through the fix on the second day before trying it out. And try not to stab anyone with a knitting needle!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/11/2024 20:27

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius Have you checked Ravelry? Maybe someone else had the same issue - or is that where you got the suggested corrections?

Best of luck with it.

I was daft enough to volunteer to produce a baby blanket out of some of the nasty chenille yarn one of our craft group wanted used up. I'm not a good knitter anyway, and cast on far too many stitches, so it was turning out 40" wide. Eventually got sense and ripped it, but it took forever as I'm doing it in three colours (alternating rows of yellow, blue and green) and had to do one row at a time.

Have just about done enough that I'll start at the meeting on Monday having re-knitted the same yarn I'd knitted last week.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/11/2024 20:50

This is where crochet wins over knitting: you don't have to undo each stitch, just grab the yarn & pull. Some yarn just won't come undone if they're a bit hairy, but otherwise it's a joy compared to unpicking knitting.

Thank you.
You have all reminded me never to take up any kind of wool work, and never to feel guilty about it.

I see you have learnt to knit too, android

Neither of those androids look like they have a clue what to do with knitting needles, and I bet the knitted bits were done actually done by Woley and Deano as props..

When you think about it, a knitting pattern is like a software programme, isn't it?
Androids should be good at that, but it looks like they can't get their 'fingers' to work as well as we can. Smile
Good luck to Woley and Deano with their knitting challenges.

're-knitting the same yarn' reminds me of my granny carefully unravelling old jumpers to salvage the wool and knit another jumper out of it. I don't know what the maximum numbers of garments she got out of one lot of wool. I think the jumpers got smaller and smaller, for younger and younger grandkidsGrin
