Women's Equality Party and Chris Kaba

Tweets yesterday and today lamenting Kaba's death.

This was a violent criminal who was subject to a restraining order from his then-pregnant girlfriend.

Why are WEP tweeting in support of him?

So women’s equality has been achieved then? Time for them to branch out and campaign for other things?

Evidently.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/10/2024 22:00

Cor they’re a bunch of fucking useless twerps aren’t they?

They're saying that the Met is institutionally racist and another unarmed black man has been shot.

I don't believe a police officer has ever been found guilty of murder so the outcome was predictable.

He was armed with a 2 ton motor vehicle.

Madlentileater · 22/10/2024 22:06

I haven't really followed this (and didn't know Chris Kaba was black although I suppose it shouldn't surprise me)
but, I was under the impression his history was not made public previously? therefore it would look like the usual case of police violence towards black men, which it seems it wasn't as simple as that?

He was stationary and blocked in by police vehicles.

His criminal history wasn't released because the police wouldn't have been aware of it at the time of the killing. The judge believed it was irrelevant.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/10/2024 22:16

I see. You were under the impression that they only mentioned women.

I'm under the impression that they're a pointless waste of fucking space.

For the record, the car was targeted by the police as it had been involvd in a shooting incident the previous day. The police did not know who was driving the car.

The WEP have been a constant disappointment for years. That they speak up in support of a man with a history of VAWG, not to mention a gang member who used guns in London shows their level of commitment to the safety of women and the rest of society.

Absolutely, though I would go so far as to say they're actively harmful to the cause of women's equality and safety.

It's like they've been infiltrated and are actually being run by MRAs.

You have to wonder who wrote that don't you?

I might be convinced but 12 jurers weren't.

TempestTost · 22/10/2024 22:40

I'm of two minds on this.

Firstly I don't think this was a racist shooting.

Secondly - while I think they are wrong to defend this guy as if he were innocent, I also don't think that there can be such a thing as a one issue political party. Any political party, if it actually runs candidates, who could potentially win and sit as MPs, needs more than that. How can I vote for a candidate when I know nothing about her stance on other issues, like taxes, or the war in the Ukraine?

It's possibly an argument against one issue political parties.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 22/10/2024 22:42

'If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.'

Chris Kaba was a violent abusive thug who hurt women.

The WEP are a disgrace.

There have been many incorrect decisions made by juries.

Even more incorrrect and iffy decisions made by the Womens Equality Party.

Which is what the thread is about.

Because common sense has completely left the building.

The WEP are a disgrace.

George Floyd had been to jail many times but I don't believe he deserved to be killed by the police.

I believe Kaba was murdered by the police, that doesn't mean I support his criminality.

The Women's Equality Party.
Speaking up for men who beat up women.

SummerFeverVenice · 22/10/2024 22:54

No one is defending or campaigning for Kaba, they are campaigning against extrajudicial executions by firearms police of unarmed suspects. We don’t even have the death penalty in this country, so the threshold to shoot a suspect in the head, a kill shot, really should be far higher than it was. Normally, it’s only authorised if it has been confirmed the suspect is armed with a firearm and it’s in their hand (direct and immediate threat). Kaba’s empty hands were in plain view the entire time.

Ok, so the victim wasn’t a perfect victim. He was a criminal and an abuser of women- but even if he’d been a serial child rapist, killer and cannibal he still should not have been shot in the head like a rabid animal. Especially because at the time he was shot all the police saw was a young unarmed Black man. He could have been anyone.

Police are trained to arrest even the most violent criminals without using lethal force. I do believe racism had an influence on the decisions of the police and the jury.

There have been many incorrect decisions made by juries.

The inference being that the jury were either misdirected by the judge or that they wilfully ignored the facts. You are going to have to show your working if you want to pursue this argument.
