Man who calls himself "non-binary" wins compensation because insurance company didn't agree to address him as "Mx"

This is absurd and yet more evidence that these bespoke gender identities are just an excuse to control people and kick up a fuss over nothing.

Today in #nonbinary

I get an email about the car insurance renewal and see it's in my old name. Have to call up to get it changed, supply a copy of my deed poll, so far ok.

Ask them to update my title to Mx

"You can only choose from Mr/Ms/Mrs/Dr"

But I'm none of those I say

"In that case we're cancelling your policy as your legal name won't match our systems. And we'll charge you a cancellation fee."

Wait wait wait - YOU can't support MY title so now this is MY fault?

Asked them to raise it as a formal complaint which has paused the cancellation for 10 days.

GDPR right to rectification means what?

Update to the #nonbinary insurance saga:

1. A different provider that did offer "Mx" was cheaper so I've switched.

2. I complained and complained again to the Financial Ombudsman causing the insurer to spend time and effort dealing with that.

3. I got £330 "compensation".

4. I have now caused Direct Line to make a loss on insuring me all because of a single letter in their shitty IT.

This might be a useful thread to collect examples of activists pushing for 'non binary' rights, which don't currently exist in any equality law.

Thanks! Sorry I missed that earlier thread. Though maybe this is an additional case to the ones mentioned in those posts?

Yep, yours is an additional case. Might be worth reposting onto the earlier thread for amplification though.

Jaysus. The neck on the man. Identifying as oppressed much?

CelestialGalaxy · 15/10/2024 22:13

I don't even know why they bother collecting title

Agree. This would be the easiest way to evade the identity obsessed folx.

Oh interesting. Can this be precedent for compensation for being asked our gender identity with no option for “none”/“not applicable”
