Gender Identity is the best shield for people like Yaniv because it means police and judges see them as victims and therefore often excuse or minimise the abusive behaviour. And legislators and administrators have been busy putting rules in place to protect them from negative consequences of their actions and punish those who object to the awful behaviour.

British Columbia most likely has hate speech or hate crime legislation and I think that calling a black woman the N-word would most likely be on the list of behaviours that are worthy of police time.

I am not sure they do, not that a racial slur is illegal. Generally hate crimes in Canada do actually have to involve a real crime, and hate speech has to be inciting real harms, not just being an asshole.

Canada, BC in particular, seems to be the very model of a woke state and the various arms of the state (and institutions) seem to find ways to legally harass GC people, and given that land acknowledgements etc are part of polite behaviour, I would have thought they would also dislike racist behaviour strongly too.
