I hope the silence in the pub means everyone has been having a nice Saturday? Lovely weather here, been to The Duck Place (aka WWT reserve) and then a bit of very overdue gardening.

Bannedontherun · 26/10/2024 19:30

Been mainly playing hunt the MIL down on her wanderings, she has dementia and she will not stay in between care visits.

Husband took her out for long walk this am and then carers took her for another.

So no movement on the door cam so she is asleep, hooray!

Magpiecomplex · 26/10/2024 20:51

Guinea pig, or incognito gerbil? 🤔

Nice jumper. I'd actually wear that one. (In private, on Christmas Day)

I'm knackered after a full day of two wonderful grandchildren yesterday. They are better than the gym.
Teacher training day= Exhaust your grandparents day.

And I did some housework, washing and made biscuits and carrot and red lentil soup. How terribly 1950s!

Magpiecomplex · 26/10/2024 22:13

Very domesticated, @FuzzyPuffling!
I'd wear that jumper too, to be honest, although they have a nicer one that's black with a sequinned holly leaf.

Bannedontherun · 26/10/2024 22:25

I used to have a pair of jeans with sequins all over them i loved them

What a cheerful image @FuzzyPuffling 😊

That's a good one...love the way the festive gerbil on pufflings's apron has her nose in the soup bowl.Grin

I've done my best to get copilot to create this image – but it's uphill work. I've discovered that copilot doesn't know what a gardening fork looks like, to add to the list of things it doesn't know how to draw

It's an unexpectedly cute touch isn't it? You never know what you're going to get 😂

ErrolTheDragon · 26/10/2024 23:31

Pedantically it's not a puffling though, they don't have the big colourful beak yet.

But even more pedantically a puffling can't have grandchickschildren so I think I'd better stop this train of thought Grin

lcakethereforeIam · 26/10/2024 23:42

Even, even more pendantically no puffin will have the colourful beak at this time of year.

They don’t sound very comfy. Were they, or were you too young to mind?

Pedantry Corner is buzzing tonight! There aren't any puffins about in the winter. They're all out at sea. But hey, this is being written by a moose. Meanwhile, I found a photo from the British wildlife photography competition showing an actual puffling with its parent.

Your pottery plans sound wonderful, @AlisonDonut . I trust nobody but you will be allowed to use them when they are finished, for fear the people might be overwhelmed by their glory, faint and drop them?

Nobody but me will be using my TERF tumbler. That's for sure.

It's a busy pottery week this week, we are digging a pit later today as we are pitfiring later in the week, with pottery friends so alongside that, I'm collecting things in the woods and in my garage to wrap my pieces up in, prior to the pit firing. I want to stick some acorn hats, mushrooms, and leaves to mine, and wrap it up in old wire, maybe chicken wire and copper wire if i can find it. Actually I have some old Norse money with holes in I could put the wire through to secure it to the pieces so need to track that down.

I really need to be diligent with my note taking as I wrap everything up. In case a nice thing happens with the fire. Of course I might just end up with loads of smashed pieces of charred clay.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/10/2024 07:16

Too many fabulous posts to reply to, but, I think you are all bloody brilliant!

FuzzyPuffling · 27/10/2024 07:20

I'd be very interested to see the results of your pit firing, @AlisonDonut . Please show us after the event.

I shall see what I can do - as an aside I do love the colour black. So as long as they don't explode I should get something I can use.

MarieDeGournay · 27/10/2024 09:47

Ah the Bluestocking, where gerbils operate a garment factory and perform Busby Berkeley style dance routines, quokkas drive limousines, and no-one bats an eye, but...what?? a young puffin with a mature puffin's beak? Now you've gone too far!Grin

That's why I love the Bluestocking and all you funny clever gifted totally daft Stockingers💙

ErrolTheDragon · 27/10/2024 10:15

I want to know more about the whys and wherefores of this 'fire pit' but CBA to google. Is it emulating an ancient technique for the hell of it?

I have got pottery making envy. Sounds absolutely fantastic, all that making things with clay and then firing them in the earth.
What kind of nice things might happen in the fire when you wrap up your pieces?

Totally agree! What a marvellous bunch of clever, funny, erudite, silly, witty and quirky women!

I found an article about pufflings, with photos, in the Scotsman:
