Well, colour me surprised

I am actually genuinely shocked.

It seems moves are being made to ensure he is not free to practise very shortly.

TempestTost · 02/10/2024 17:37

I'm shocked too.

But you know, this is part of the reason I object to psychologists insisting on privacy from parents when they treat teens and even kids.

Obviously this is just one guy and there are many who are nothing like this, but I think it is precisely the same kind of scenario as priests in the scandals in the Catholic Church. Those guys that went into those roles deliberately to target young people, today they become psychologists.

Autumnchilltime · 02/10/2024 17:37

BUT THERE'S NO RISK!! And anyway, THIS NEVER HAPPENS!! ( Sarcasm aside, how can we both see that,at the very Very least, this isn't a magnet for people with malign intent as Scouts/church etc used to be?!?!?

'The Transition for Autism (and other neurodevelopmental disorders) Project (TAP) ensures that children and young people known to have complex needs by mental health services (e.g. CAMHS, NT, EIT) are linked into transition to adulthood pathways earlier. This allows appropriate assessments and support to be put in place from the age of 17, making the transfer between child and adult health services easier.'

Why is this posted on the Feminism board?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/10/2024 17:44

He didn't work in GIDS. Not that that makes it any better.

YellowAsteroid · 02/10/2024 17:46

Oh this is awful.

Why are men such fools?

(There, that's the feminist bit . LOL)

Why is this posted on the Feminism board?

Which board do you think it should be posted on?

Villagetoraiseachild · 02/10/2024 17:55

This is just horrible.

You know why.

No I really don't? I am genuinely curious, it seems to be more of a public interest story so could be in Chat?

ArabellaScott · 02/10/2024 18:03

Because lots of feminists care about child safeguarding. And because he worked at the 'gender' clinic, the Tavistock. This is the 'sex and gender' board.

popeydokey · 02/10/2024 18:07

Back to the OP (derailing chat about "what the feminism boards are like" tends to be Not In The Spirit as we've spent years dealing with the same derailing), it is pretty shocking that, although he was rightly sacked from the Tavi, he could potentially get a similar job with kids?

What is the likelihood that employers wouldn't know or would overlook it?

I agree, but it's because he worked at the Tavistock with trans kids.

Can’t it be in both? Are we restricted with which topics can be posted on here?
It is a public interest article and the more it’s spread the more the general public will be aware of exactly who these people are.

MarkWithaC · 02/10/2024 18:08

Obviously he and his actions are despicable, but pps are right: he didn't work at the gender clinic.

popeydokey · 02/10/2024 18:11

Blanketyre · 02/10/2024 18:07

I agree, but it's because he worked at the Tavistock with trans kids.

It is understood he did not treat patients at the hospital's controversial gender clinic.

Literally in the link in the OP.
But you know better, yeah?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/10/2024 18:12

It says in the DM article he didn't work at GIDS. He has a hearing tomorrow about his fitness to practise. https://www.hcpts-uk.org/hearings/hearings/2024/october/rosario-canade/

This is the Sex and gender board. The main London gender clinic was at the Tavistock (until it was closed), where this person worked.

No he didn't. There are many services at the Tavi. GIDS is one but he worked in CAMHS. Nothing to do with trans kids at all.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/10/2024 18:15

One of the things that makes me sad about the GIDS debacle is that it's besmirched the Tavistock's name. The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust is a mental health trust which used to be best known as a brilliant place to study child psychology and psychotherapy. GIDS was just one clinic amongst many.

llamalines · 02/10/2024 18:19

ArabellaScott · 02/10/2024 18:03

I think we need to be careful to get all the facts here.

The Tavistock isn't "the gender clinic".

The Tavistock and Portman is the NHS trust which oversees GIDS (the gender clinic). Its "our services" page mentions over 30 services, of which GIDS is just one.

Others services are for couples, young people, children needing autism assessment, fostered and adopted children, asylum seekers, drug users and alcoholics, people with psychosis, people with personality disorders, young people suffering mental health issues etc etc.

So, while it's shocking and extremely concerning that a Tavistock lead psychologist is a paedophile, it only begs the question "how much did he have to do with the gender clinic" - and I don't think we know that yet, do we?

llamalines · 02/10/2024 18:20

It took me so long to write my post, a couple of others have made the same point, and more succinctly!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/10/2024 18:20

An HCP who is sexually attracted to minors should absolutely not be working in CAMHS. Shouldn't be working in any HCP post, obviously, but especially not CAMHS. Are there any recorded cases of female HCPs doing anything similar?

Yes. I did a fantastic course with the Tavistock decades ago that taught me so much (as a teacher) about child psychology. It's an absolute tragedy for them - and this case is of course appalling.
