It's absolutely crazy, but that's where we are. 😟

(I'm particularly attached to my signed copy of Owen Paul's My favourite waste of time)

I'm a bit rubbish at pop since about 1985, I always thought that was Chesney Hawkes, or similar...

You're thinking of "The One and Only"

thankyouforthedayz · 05/10/2024 16:36

Whilst the writer of the article can go F himself, the film is beautiful. Harper starts so sad and lost, but the end is really uplifting. I'm not GC because I'm transphobic, I want, and have always wanted trans people to have respect, dignity and the same rights as anyone to safety, security of income, a decent life. I just can't sign up to this aggressive belief that female sex means nothing and every form of social organisation and provision should be based on gender and women who disagree deserve everything from disapprobation to, well death or rape.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2024 18:18

I didn't find it beautiful or uplifting at all. I guess we're all different.

Rotten diners. Not behaving like proper NPCs and providing the wanted experience on command.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2024 18:25

I’m not sure what they hoped to gain from the announcement on telling the other diners they should do more for trans rights?

"I felt like my transness was on display" well yes, you made a self centring point about your identity politics when people were just trying to have a night out.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2024 18:25

Sorry meant to quote you @Justme56

Yes, it's the one and only one of his I know. My girlfriend at the time called him Cheesy Sporks, which was educational, as I found out what a spork is.

@RapidOnsetGenderCritic said;

There are enough transwomen who clearly are obsessed with unhealthy sexual practices for this to be a valid concern.

I sympathize with your feelings on this, but I just wanted to point out that there are just as many "cis" men into unhealthy sexual practices. The problem is within male sexuality, not transgenderism. If your son is going to be conditioned into adopting unhealthy sexual practices it will be from porn, just like so many "cis" men are.
Porn has captured most men, far more than gender ideology in and of itself has. I have no doubt there are men who decided they were transgender because of habitually watching trans porn.

A plea for attention, then a complaint when the attention was not 100% positive.

Well yes. If I read this right, the attention was already on Harper for doing the eating contest. But why would you then start on about trans rights, or any other hobby horse? I don't think I would be asking the other diners to do more for women's rights, or give up plastic bags for climate change, or anything else. The audience just want to watch people eat massive steaks without being lectured.

Britinme · 06/10/2024 16:12

I think there aren't many women who would tackle a 72 oz steak.

They also had the attention by calling for a toast.

Poor, vulnerable Harper making sure that the spotlight was on him.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 06/10/2024 19:14

Earlier on this thread I said, about my son, "That he is now identifying as part of a grouping which includes advocates of extreme body modification and "unusual" sexual practices is a huge concern." It strikes me that I have not personally come across any other group of people who unapologetically embrace either extreme body modification or unusual sexual practices. But the T of LGBT seem OK with both these things, and the Q make advocating for them part of their identity, it seems to me, with the deliberate "queering" of society, blurring of boundaries and subversion of all norms.

It's not that norms should never be questioned, but this seems to be a determined effort to say "anything goes" and to frame caution as reactionary. The "progressive" thing is suddenly to welcome extreme cosmetic surgery, particularly if it involves secondary sex characteristics, and to welcome all sexual practices. Extreme libertarianism is now "progressive", and there are to be no societal brakes applied, except that the new ideology is to be embedded in everything and anyone who objects is to be vilified and punished.
