For the first time, Labour Women's Declaration has been allowed a stall at the Labour national conference. They've run a series of very well-attended events. This one was chaired by Tonia Antoniazzi, one of very few Labour politicians prepared to stick their head above the parapet for women's rights. It's been a highly successful conference for LWD, after years spent standing in the rain with banners outside the venue. Well done to all involved.

Thanks, been looking forward to the recording!

Thank you!

Floisme · 24/09/2024 10:13

Thanks, looking forward to watching

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 24/09/2024 10:15

No Rosie?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/09/2024 11:33

Thank you, started watching the other day but then it got taken down again, presumably for editing. Glad to see it up.

No Rosie?

Tonia's been fighting the sport issue hard for years now and has helped take some of the pressure off Rosie. They are still, as far as I'm aware, the only two female Labour MPs who are openly GC and risking their careers by speaking out. Jess Phillips, Bridget Phillipson and others are still sitting on the fence in public, at least.

They mentioned that Jess Philips was attending their fringe event outside the conference zone. I thought that was interesting.

Really interesting, thankyou for posting Pluvia.

ArabellaScott · 24/09/2024 12:22

Thanks OP!

Thank you.

Did anyone challenge the statement that LWD made that Labour was committed to saving single sex spaces (of the biological kind) or provide evidence that Labour had.

It seem such a strange assertion to make, given the very reason for their existence!

Or was that the price for being allowed into the conference area.

I am not posting this to be snarky, but am so bemused that they made that statement.

WarriorN · 24/09/2024 17:38

Sonia's speech was really good in pointing out that the EA does need to be overhauled from a legal standpoint

WarriorN · 24/09/2024 17:38

So from that perspective, she challenged Labour

WarriorN · 24/09/2024 17:38

All excellent speeches

That's good to know.

But still doesn't explain why LWD made the statement they did!

Jess Philips seems to be slowly coming off the fence. It's good to see her sitting next to a sign saying 'For women's sex-based rights and freedoms'.

And she's "literally always stood with Rosie Duffield"

Great looking forward to watching

WarriorN · 24/09/2024 19:50

@IwantToRetire I don't understand that either!

Ladyof2024 · 25/09/2024 07:03

How many male Labour MPs are there, and how many are openly GC?

I want to know how many/what percentage are standing up for the female electorate against this onslaught of attack upon our rights.

Yes, that was Jess venturing out after fence-sitting for far too long. I don't know how much we can expect from her, frankly. She's spent the last five years saying something that might seem a bit GC and then backtracking. I suppose now the tide is changing and so she'll pretend to have been GC all along.

Wes Streeting is GC and speaking out. There are a number of male Labour peers who've been plugging away in the Lords.

There are more female GC MPs who have been working away behind the scenes and are known to be GC. One, in particular, has recently attained a position in which she can effect change. Sorry to be gnomic.

When was that meeting, anyone know, snd how it went?

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 25/09/2024 21:14

Brilliant. Well done to all involved.

Newterm · 25/09/2024 21:19

Although some may be finally coming to their senses, there’s a new crop of Labour MPs who aren’t. New Labour MP for Southend had this on his Twitter feed this week
