Worldwide XX Day proposed, wear red - 10th October

Just seen on X. #TERFDayofVisibility proposed for 10th October because it's X X in Roman numerals. Suggested that women in support all over the world should wear red. Symbolic but also not as political as suffragette colours for those who need to be careful at work. I think I'll give this a go. https://x.com/sappholives83/status/1837232379179544598?t=wUUgCHATTW_qZ2O6c4z8NQ&s=19

Google didn't turn up slugs, but did turn up David Attenborough and surprisingly beautiful penis-fencing flatworms.

Which is a sentence I never thought I would type.

I really do not suit red but I will be wearing red on 10th October.

Catsmere · 23/09/2024 23:19

I have red boots, must hit the shops for a red shirt to go with them and jeans. At least it won't be stinking summer weather by October 10th.

Iamnotalemming · 23/09/2024 23:37

Was not expecting to see the words 'penis jousting' on this thread but that is the joy of MN.

Anyway, I love this and will be at an evening work event on 10th. I have a burgundy trouser suit that I love - do you think that counts?

MassiveWordSalad · 24/09/2024 07:54

@MarieDeGournay maybe it's a reinterpretation? X marks the womanly bosom and not the tragic scar.

Snowypeaks · 24/09/2024 08:05

I had the same reaction as Marie, but I don't think that design is for the Oct 10th Day of Visibility anyway, which is about wearing red.

MassiveWordSalad · 24/09/2024 08:07

I don't know if it's designed specifically, but the Famous Artist Birdy Rose is a fabulous advocate for women and has fans including Maya Forstater and JK Rowling.

No disrespect to Birdy Rose intended - it's just that I had a very visceral reaction because of the horrific images glorifying 'top surgery' having Xs in the same place..

I don't have anything red in my wardrobe [probably traumatised in my youth by that Chris de Burgh song..Confused]
I was in my local craft-ish/haberdashery-ish shop yesterday, and found some blank DIY badges aka pins aka buttons.

So I bought a small tube of bright red paint and will paint the badges to share and wear on 10/10. I thought of adding 'XX' but I think a completely plain red badge will be striking.

Coming to think of it, you don't need a blank badge, a coat of bright red paint [or nail polish if you're KJKWink] on any old badge do the trick.

"Slugs have slightly different systems. They engage in penis jousting and the winner gets to be the penetrator."

My stepbrother has uncannily similar stories of boarding school life.

Even penis fencing flatworms know that it’s no fun to be the impregnated one who’s left with the scar and all the work.

Great idea! I too have no red items clothing but I can do this 😀

Apparently it often ends in a draw!

Catsmere · 26/09/2024 00:39

Huzzah, I found a bright red cardigan I'd forgotten I own - no need to spend $$ to get something!

JohnnyRememberMe · 26/09/2024 08:46

I'll be wearing a red top to work.

Chrysanthemum5 · 06/10/2024 14:43

Just bumping this as a reminder in case you wish to wear red on the 10th October. An easy way to show support without having to be very overt if (like me) you work in a place that is full on TWAW

LaerealSilverhand · 07/10/2024 09:58

I would be very wary of doing if you work for a multinational - wearing a lot of red on the 10th October is seen as celebrating Taiwanese National Day which is apparently 'problematic'. We have colleagues who have got into trouble for it. Apparently it's 'insensitive' to our mainland Chinese party snoops colleagues.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/10/2024 10:01

I've worked for multinational companies and would never have had any idea that I shouldn't wear red on particular days, plus I'm fairly obviously not actually Chinese or Taiwanese so I doubt anyone would have thought I was wearing a red dress for that reason Confused

Mine is American and is all about the sensitivity and inclusivity while selling technology to some of the worst human rights abusers in the world.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/10/2024 10:27

I highly doubt it's going to be an issue in most U.K. workplaces.

Besides, it's just an item of clothing that just happens to be red, right?
Those unfortunately enough to be in dodgy work situations should now start practising a wide-eyed innocent look..Hmm

KStockHERO · 07/10/2024 16:18

I'm in. I don't own much red stuff but I'll dig out my red and grey checked shirt. And wear red socks.

Livinginaclock · 07/10/2024 16:22

I have a red Birdy Rose hoody, so I'll be wearing that.

JellySaurus · 08/10/2024 10:52

We've been asked to wear yellow for mental health awareness on 10/10.

Am I right?
