Researchers for two studies in Germany and America tracked insurance records for teenagers diagnosed with gender dysphoria and found the majority no longer had that diagnosis within six years.

'The steepest drop-off was among the group of natal females who were in their late teens in 2017, just 27 percent of whom retained such a diagnosis five years later.'

In a different article Swedish psychiatrist Sven Roman advocates for medical transition to be delayed until the age of 25 to allow full brain development and understanding of the consequences.

New Evidence Challenges Justification for Child Gender Transitions

New Evidence Challenges Justification for Child Gender Transitions

New data casts doubt on orthodoxy that 'trans kids become trans adults,' challenging the whole basis for justifying child gender transitions.

Another one from the School of No Shit Sherlock.

WallaceinAnderland · 20/09/2024 22:44

It'll drop even more now that the adults seem to be coming back into the room.

We'll be left with a few middle aged men as it always was.

Toseland · 20/09/2024 22:48

Oh really, how absolutely amazing!
If only the Tavistock had kept records so we could find out what happened to the UK kids hey?!
Funny that.

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 20/09/2024 22:52

Hm. It's almost like chemically castrating and mutilating teenage girls isn't a necessarily a great idea.

user1471453601 · 20/09/2024 22:54

It just strikes me that we should let kids grow, which ever way they want. They're gay? Fine. They're bi, fine, they're trans, fine.

Just as long as they grow, they'll be fine. They'll find their own way to be fine with themselves.

Yes, all fine.
Unless they have done something irreversible to their body, which affects their future options, and then they want to find their way in a different direction?
is that fine?

UtterlyOtterly · 20/09/2024 23:21

Never has "It's just a phase" been more apt.

WarriorN · 21/09/2024 07:30

It's bonkers as this seems to have been well known by these clinics such as the Tavistock.

80-90% desistance

How many repetitive studies will it take ?

This is positive.

Doh!

frazzled1 · 21/09/2024 07:53

Teens change their minds. Colour me shocked... Hmm

sunbum · 21/09/2024 08:12

Of course this is the case. They're teenagers. The time when we were all troubled, raging hormones, trying to work out who we were, coping with breasts suddennly appearing and sexual harassment at every turn. And we didn't have the internet and influencers and Instagram and all that shoved down our throats.

But you mature and get through it. Thats the whole point of puberty. And there are always teenagers experimentig with trends and fads. But there's a reason why im not still wlaking aroung looking like Robert Smith or with green hair. You grow out of things.

I cant believe this is any surprise to anyone who has been a troubled teen, or had teens in their house.

Lovelyview · 21/09/2024 08:18

It's astonishing that we're living through one of the biggest medical scandals in history and many of the people who should know better - doctors, politicians, psychologists - still don't seem to have woken up to it.

The problem is with labelling, because children question themselves and are curious at the same time as they are going through a stressful and confusing period in their lives. Let them be what they want at any particular time but don’t suggest to them, or believe yourself, that how they feel today is how they’ll feel next week

Beth216 · 21/09/2024 08:26

Yeah probably similar numbers to those who were punks/goths/emos as teens and then most moved onto a new phase but a few didn't.

Bring on the ambulance-chasing lawyers. No adult involved in this experimentation on children is innocent. I can’t wait to see them in court.

Boiledbeetle · 21/09/2024 08:29

Oh what a surprise!

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2024 08:41

Why didn't they listen to all the middle aged women who felt like this as teenagers but didn't have monsters enabling them to actually do it?

Y'know there's generations of older women with experience of this...

...oh yeah. That'll be exactly why. It's only women saying this and they aren't worth listening to because they are old.

SinnerBoy · 21/09/2024 09:10

Well, that'll set the cat among the pigeons, regarding the trans zealots. I expect them to denounce the information as transphobic lies. This study, along with the Cass Report, really ought to spike the "treatment" given to children, at least.

highame · 21/09/2024 09:22

The Crucible - it never aged, did it?

InvisibleBuffy · 21/09/2024 09:22

That's shocking. Thousands of children given unnecessary and physical damaging medical treatment. A few years ago, JK Rowling said something like this is one the worst medical scandals of the century and no one can say any longer that they don't know. (Can't remember the exact phrase)
I think about that a lot. I feel very sorry for all the children caught up in this who have had their bodies damaged because adults got caught up in religious gender zealotry.

SquirrelSoShiny · 21/09/2024 09:25

It's truly depressing it has taken this long but maybe sanity will slowly prevail. So many young people have been terribly failed.

Bannedontherun · 21/09/2024 09:32

Just finished Hanna Barnes updated book, touches on this too although the UK data is less than scant.

This is my favourite play anyway but the parallel with the today is striking. Witch hysteria, McCarthyism, trans craze, it’s all the same thing underneath. Although the similarity that particularly stands out here is that it’s children calling the shots, enabled by a small group of adults who have a vested interest. The other adults look on in horror but at silenced when they try to point out the truth.

Slothtoes · 21/09/2024 09:46

Every time a report like this reveals the truth it is such a relief to see the evidence mount up. But then I get angry. We all know, always knew, human beings can’t change sex

Let’s tackle the real issues underlying this- sexism, homophobia, misogyny, social media exploitation, lack of support for kids with trauma and SEND. Male sexual entitlement and male entitlement to access do women and children’s bodies. The huge and ongoing societal fail to do actual safeguarding. Lack of leadership in institutions. irresponsible media reporting. There’s loads more factors.

This horrific phenomenon has lifted a curtain so as a society we could take the opportunity to look wt the root causes and put in protections from the next awful exploitation. We could talk about how best to support those who have been exploited and damaged by it. But, we aren’t.,
