"Good Law Project to cease taking on Trans Legal Cases from 2025 onwards" - according to angry trans reddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1f82b6s/good_law_project_to_cease_taking_on_trans_legal/

Good news if true indeed.

I cannot however find any evidence further afield, does anyone get the GLP newsletter? that seems to be where this is from.

A full quote supplied in the reddit thread says:

"Dear Friend
We’ve been working together to stand up for trans rights, so I thought you’d like to hear how Good Law Project’s work in this area is going to evolve.
In 2025 we’ll be shifting our focus. Instead of funding or taking on legal cases ourselves, we’ll be supporting a trans and queer organisation with a three-year funding commitment. We’ve thought long and hard about the best way to keep fighting for trans rights and lives, and we feel that this is the moment for us to put our weight behind an organisation led by trans people.
It’s getting harder and harder to win rights for the trans community through the courts, and it doesn’t feel right to keep asking the community and its allies to carry on contributing to the enormous costs of this increasingly difficult litigation.
We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done in this space over the last five years. We’ll keep acting as allies, speaking out when we can make a meaningful contribution to the debate and supporting the tireless work of others standing up for trans rights. But for now, at least, we’ll be focusing our legal campaigns elsewhere.
We still have important work to do between now and the end of the year. In November we’ll be making sure the voices and experiences of trans people are heard, when a case affecting the freedoms they have relied on for 20 years is heard in the Supreme Court.
And through our colleagues at Good Law Practice we’ll carry on supporting The Clare Project to get answers at inquest about the tragic loss of a trans person’s life.
Good Law Project only exists because of the amazing support of people like you. I hope you’ll keep working with us as we keep holding power to account.
In solidarity,
Jo, Good Law Project"

I'm sure tranada will give them asylum

I would actually love to see people try to get asylum in Canada from the UK on the grounds that they are being "persecuted because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC)".

The definition of 'persecution' proposed by both the would-be refugees and the Canadian decision makers would be fascinating.

SinnerBoy · 04/09/2024 15:22

Well, it was heartening to read that the bloke who changed the single sex refuge to a mixed sex has been made to return it to its proper state again.

Yes, because those are rights that already belong to other people you numpty.

StainlessSteelMouse · 04/09/2024 15:36

Well, Tim Walz has declared Minnesota to be a sanctuary state for trans youth, but you'd have to get past US immigration first. And be willing to live in Minnesota.

I also heard on the grapevine that GLP is trying to abandon the sinking ship ahead of some disturbing revelations about Mermaids.

Does that mean we’re finally about to get the results of the Charity Commission investigation?

And similar timing to Pink News and Stonewall taking a step back from some activities?

Found another classic link in there...
https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1f8rcp5/trans_women_working_in_single_sex_spaces/

"Trans Women working in single sex spaces

Hi, I'm a trans woman who had been working in a single sex refuge part time for about 3-4 months, ive just been told that although they really like me and think I'm a good worker they can't allow me to continue working at the refuge
"

Oh that's quite interesting to read. Seems like the actual law rather than the law as Stonewall would like it to be is filtering through.

I wonder what attracted them to working at a refuge for vulnerable females? 🤔

ahead of some disturbing revelations about Mermaids.

Given the revelations we have already had which didn't seem to put them off, one dreads to think.

*What do we do when abusive friends or family members refuse to accept us? Cut them out of our lives.
If an entire country becomes abusive and refuses to accept us, the same applies I’m afraid.
A country that gets so bad it forces a minority to leave will rapidly become a nightmare hellhole for everyone else anyway. *...

They've spent the last 5 years telling trans people everyone hates them and that they are at high risk of suicide and now they're effectively abandoning them. They're disgusting.

IMO TGL are grifting psychopaths, the fox killer might have hoped his name would go down in the history books as a major player in a new "civil rights" movement and now that looks less likely he's backing away before the shit sticks.

I don’t know much about this, I’m reading bits here and there. But I’ve seen references to ‘the fox killer’ before. What is this? A person?

TWETMIRF · 04/09/2024 17:41

Jolyon Maugham KC posted one boxing day that he ran out into his garden wearing his wife's kimono dressing gown to batter a fox to death with a baseball bat. He said he was protecting his chickens but the way he described it, he got a kick from it and expected lots of gushing praise.

MeAgainAndAgain · 04/09/2024 17:45

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g and @TWETMIRF thank you!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/09/2024 17:58

Not the only odd thing he's done. He was a top tax barrister and has just walked away from that career, burning his bridges behind him by having some sort of row with his Head of Chambers as he went and blocking him*. Then he sold his windmills (as you do) to fund the Good Law Project and has proceeded to lose case after case. As mid-life crises go, it's right up there.

There's a lot about Mermaids on this board. This Guardian article is more detailed and objective than I would have expected, given The Guardian's reluctance to criticise any aspect of gender ideology.

Did he sell the windmill to fund the Good Law Project, or did he sell it in order to pay his builders? I ask, because the building firm he used to renovate the windmill were reported to be suing him for nearly £500,000 of unpaid bills.

I admit to assuming he sold the windmills to fund the GLP.

Bouledeneige · 04/09/2024 21:53

He fell out with 2 chambers. He did his pillage at Matrix changers but they declined to keep him on as he was rude. He then joined another chambers - I think Devereux - and later fell out with them and left.

I have it on good authority that the excoriating review of his book may have been pinned up in the Devereux building for quite some time 😀 Apparently whilst there, there were "very few subjects where he didn't think the rest of chambers would benefit from his views".
😁

Honestly, I'm not sure which scenario would reflect more poorly on him: having chosen to sell his house to sink the funds into GLP; or having spent so much on renovations that he had to sell the windmill afterwards.

Is that the Times one that he was upset about? Grin

He sold his windmills? Were they for tilting at? Is that why he has had to develop imaginary transphobes to tilt at?

I'm always amused when I read about narcissists being hoisted by their own grandiosity in any and all contexts.
