"There continues to be near total silence of western feminists about these barbaric practices. Feminists’ failure to advocate for the rights of these women is so shameful as to completely undermine their judgment and discredit their movement."

Wtf is wrong with these men? Why can they never seem to make the connection in their animal brains that they need to step up rather than blame us for them not listening?

I'm imagining that he is referring to the branch of 'feminism' that believe that men can be women too....but who are completely silent on the sufferings of actual women throughout the world.

In the U.S 'feminists' are are all about Abortion rights and Gender ideology - not about the fate of women in Islamism or other such political cultures.

SilenceInside · 03/09/2024 10:45

I don't know which feminists he's referring to but every single one that I follow on social media has publicly condemned what I assume is the Afghanistan Taliban regime that he is referring to by showing this video. Specifically recently in the light of the appalling ban on women speaking.

But also: imagine witnessing male violence against women and then blaming women for not condemning it rather than men for committing it. It’s rather like white people looking at apartheid South Africa and reprimanding black people in the US and Europe for not doing enough to stop it.

FOJN · 03/09/2024 10:55

And that's how invisible feminists are to a misogynist, they can't even hear us!

Fuck off Peter you're embarrassing yourself.

women do speak up but these are not the voices these regimes listen to, that is one of the reasons men need to speak up about this issue, plus (and part of it) women are not allowed in the same government rooms as the men in these regimes so they cannot be heard even when speaking up...what a knobhead!

eatfigs · 03/09/2024 10:58

Awful video, couldn't watch it all the way through.

Who is this stupid prick blaming feminists?

TheaBrandt · 03/09/2024 10:59

The entire might of the US army failed to fix this how are we supposed to do so?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/09/2024 11:01

He's good on free speech and related stuff, but he's always been a bit of a knob, like James Lindsay.

Quite.

He is, and on this he has a point. But it's as if we don't exist. What the fuck does he expect? He's just playing to his gallery of right leaning misogynists.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/09/2024 11:03

Sorry meant to quote you @Shortshriftandlethal

Weaponised headtilt: Activate Bekind shields: ENGAGE.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/09/2024 11:05

If these men, instead of grandstanding in such a self congratulatory way, actually supported the women who are trying to call it out, we'd have more chance of achieving something.

Igmum · 03/09/2024 11:05

Martina's on it (can't figure out how to do a hyperlink sorry)

Boghossian's just another chin stroker.

And the British. And the Russians.

TheMamaBear · 03/09/2024 11:08

He's just another male gender critical careerist who's glommed onto our movement and stolen the work of good women to make a name for himself and line his own pockets.

He's not the only man to do this (99% of them if I'm being honest) and he won't be the last unless they start getting called out by women en masse.

Good for her. I'm glad she's cutting through it.

Datun · 03/09/2024 11:12

Did he respond to Martina, by any chance?

MarieDeGournay · 03/09/2024 11:22

Men who say things like that about feminists are just displaying the fact that they know feck-all about feminism.

But that seems to be a feature of social media - people post things that are blatantly and demonstrably wrong, as in factually incorrect, showing them up as ignorant and ill-informed, but they seem to think it makes them seem outspoken and edgy.

No, Peter, you're just wrong.

IWilloBeACervix · 03/09/2024 11:34

Peter doesn’t seem to understand here that the issue is not with feminism, but with -dare I say it - the underlying power structures that mean he doesn’t get to hear the women that are speaking up. American feminist orgs are all captured by genderist and so are pushing only that agenda. Same with UN and WHO etc.

TheSandgroper · 03/09/2024 11:39

@IWilloBeACervix Yes. See his interview with Kara Dansky. “Why don’t you carry a gun?” he asks when discussing pervs who put their phones under toilet doors.

WandsOut · 03/09/2024 11:39

Wonder how many feminists he actually follows or if it's majority men.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 03/09/2024 11:46

It's obvious he's more interested in telling off women than actually lobbying to address extremism regimes that treat women appallingly, or even just raising awareness by promoting charities, NGOs etc that work in this area. He could be posting about how men could be leading in this area. So many different approaches, but he chose to take the chance to have a dig at women, feminists, for not saying the right things in his opinion.

Keenovay · 03/09/2024 11:53

It's a very common response on Twitter from men who don't follow any feminist activists. It's like these guys don't hear women's subsonic voices until a man amplifies or repeats them.

See also: "I hope you reported this to the police?" in response to any woman posting about street harassment, and "Why don't the women just refuse to take part?" in response to complaints about males in women's sport. For me, all these comments are part of a continuum. It's a form of victim-blaming.

It's as if they are exasperated at women for not sorting out situations that they, a man, could fix in an afternoon with one slash of the Gordian knot. Their frustration displays ignorance of the complexity and background of situations, and the existing efforts and expertise of women's organisations involved. It's a colonial attitude, judging a situation from 10,000 feet, without bothering to get to know what's at stake and who is involved on the ground. But I suppose that's Twitter for you, as a previous poster said.
